  1. must be something about the 5 month mark, i've only lost 3lbs in the last 4 weeks! I stalled for 18 days then lost 3 in 2 days and then nothing in the 7 days since. I hope someone is going to tell us its common and our weight will fall off next month! I still have a long way to go and at this rate i will never get to goal.
  2. Foxbins, when i was losing something every week when i record my weight i was happy but now i can go for 18 days with no change then lose 3lbs in 2 days then nothing again since so its frustrating. The good thing is i lost an inch each from my bust, waist and hips this month and it took a 20lb loss at the start to lose the same inches! feedyoureye, isn't it great to shop in the closet for smaller clothes and they fit! I find things i forgot i had and things i've never even worn. My body has yoyo-ed from a 16 to a 26 (English sizes) for years but usually at the top end! And i'm now in some of my 16's so when they start to get bigger i'm going to have to have a whole new wardbrobe. My nutritionist wants me on a low cal diet of 1000-1200 cals a day but i do low carb because after years of trial and error i know i feel better and i lose better doing that. My cals were around 800-1000 before my stall and the day i upped my cals to 1200 i dropped the 3lbs so now i am eating a bit more but i might drop back down again if i don't get results. How many cals are you all eating? I don't log every day, after 40 years of dieting i hate doing that but i check every now and then to make sure i'm not way out. If anything i tend to go to low on carbs and cals and protein if i don't check. How is everyone on hunger, i seem to have different hungers so its confusing if anyone asked me if i feel hunger now. I get the 'real' hunger where my stomach growls if i haven't eaten for ages and might feel a bit weak or headachey but i rarely go that long. I have the head hunger where see cake or chocolate or pasta etc. and i want it but its usually something i can ignore. I also get the hormonal hunger around TOM when i crave sweet stuff like crazy and its hard to ignore so i have some yogurt with sweetener or a few squares of SF chocolate. But i don't have that over whelming - i want FOOD NOW and then eat and it doesn't satisfy the craving so i try something else and that doesn't help so i try something else etc. I don't have much restriction, being sleeved in Europe they don't remove so much stomach but i consider that a good thing, no one would know i had surgery if i didn't tell them, i can eat what a normal small person eats but the good thing is i don't have to feel 'full' before i stop eating, i often stop eating just because i'm satisfied and don't want anymore.
  3. I had my surgery on the 4th January and am down 59lbs! I'm thrilled with that but i've only lost 3lbs in the last 4 weeks. At this rate it will take forever to get to goal. I'm hoping its temporary and i will start to lose more each week again. NJMOMof2 what are you doing to lose so quickly? Can i have a sample days menu? Do either of you have stalls? I low carb. swim, walk and do gardening and feel so much better but i wish the scale would move a bit more. I come to the January 2011 posts to look at the signature lines to see how much everyone else is losing and i'm about average so i shouldn't complain. At least i'm losing even if its not as fast as i'd like.
  4. I know exactly how you feel. I had surgery around the same time as you and i only lost 5lbs last month. 18 days ago i gained 2lbs for no reason and have stayed the same weight ever since! I know how frustrating it is to get on the scale every morning expecting to see a drop only to see the same number day after day. Maybe the 5 month mark is a common time for stalls and the loss will pick up next month. I have a lot more to lose than you so i really hope thats the case. Having said that i got up this morning and i am down those 2lbs bringing me back to what i was 3 weeks ago. I hope that means the stall is over and i'm back on the downward track. You have done really well so far for how much you have to lose, don't lose heart, as long as you are doing what you are supposed to it will come off. I also feel fat more these days, when i was at my highest i think my mind blocked out how i really looked to save me the pain and now that i'm much smaller i actually see the real me when i look in the mirror and i still have a long way to go.
  5. I was sleeved on Jan 4th and lost 19lbs in two weeks then only 5lbs in the last 3 weeks! Is that it? Can i expect to only lose 1-2lbs a weeks now? Hardly seems fair, i could do that without the surgery. I'm hoping that after the initial big loss my body is adjusting before i start losing big again. Even 3lbs a week would be good. So how are the rest of you doing? Anyone else out there go through the same thing and then have their loss increase? I don't look much different and feel disappointed when i hear other people doing so much better. 'm been on solid food since week 2 and don't have much restriction so i have to watch what i eat, mostly protein with some salad or veg and some yogurt now and then. Around 800-1000 cals a day.
  6. After losing 1-2lbs for 3 weeks i've lost 4lbs this week! And its not my weigh in for another two days. If i can get a 4lbs loss every few weeks then i'll be thrilled. People are also noticing now so that motivates me to stay on plan when i have bad carbs tempting me.
  7. Thanks for the replies everyone, it looks like i'm about average. I'm just worried that if i can only lose 1-2lbs at 5 weeks out what is it going to be like at 3 or 6 months out. Does anyone still feel hungry? I'm constantly thinking what my next meal will be. I so wish i was one of the ones that forgets to eat and can't be bothered with food.
  8. I'm at 3 weeks out today and already on solid food. My doctor progresses through all the stages really quickly. I was only on liquids for 3 days before i went on to pureed foods. I don't think you will have done any damage but its best to stick to your doctors plan. I can understand how you can get sick of liquids, i'm so happy that my doctor isn't so strict, i didn't do a pre-op diet either. It's possible that here in Europe they leave more stomach than they do in the US and that might be a factor. Just think of all the quick weight loss you will have and the time will soon pass.
  9. I'm down 19lbs in two weeks and i'm overjoyed! I've never lost that much in a month let alone two weeks.

  10. The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was overdoing it and one of my incisions opened and i have that watery blood oozing. The doctor told me to use iodine and keep it covered until it dries and it will be fine. I hope it doesn't leave a hole in my stomach.

2 wks post op - plateau?

It's very common to have a stall around the second to third week. Don't worry about it, it will come off, just give it time. I'm at 11 days out and expecting the scale to stop moving anytime now, thats why ive decided to only weigh once a week, it stops me stressing out and i might not even notice i've stalled if it last less than a week. Just keep doing what you're doing and everything will be fine.

    Any January Sleevers?

I'm back and i'm sleeved!! thanks to all who said a prayer for me, it must have helped, things went really well. I had some pain the first two days but that was kept under control with meds, by the third day i felt great. "They kept me in two days longer because my drain was producing too much and the xrays they did were inconclusive but i know everything was fine. How many of us have been sleeved this month so far? How is everyone doing? I'm so excited to start my new life and re-claim my health!
  13. Thanks my sleeve sisters, it really means a lot to me to have your support. I only hope i do as well as most of the people on this site. I've been on clear broth for the last 3 days and jello, today i got to eat pureed carrot, potato, and chicken but only 2 teaspoons every 2 hours. So far so good but i do seem to get a lot of hiccups an hour after eating. For some reason i have a back ache today, could that be related to surgery? I didn't have any of the wind pain that some talk about so i don't think it's that. Maybe its because i've been doing a lot more today seeing as its my first day out of the hospital. If i have more questions should i post them here or start a new thread each time. I'm kinda new at this!
  14. I had to stay in hospital a few more days because the drain was still producing fluid and the xrays were in conclusive but got the all clear today. I'm so excited to start my new life and so grateful to be given this chance to get my health back. I have no scales around so have no idea what i weigh and for the first time in my life i don't care! I know that after a week of hardly any food (first four days was nil by mouth) i can't help but lose and it will be all downhill from here. Well apart from a few bumps in the road and hold ups but at least i know from experience after reading here that i can expect that and not to worry, it's normal. I don't have any pain and feel amazing, i have more energy than before surgery. I'm going to catch up on all the posts i missed and i'll be back with all the questions!
  15. congrats, looks like you had a good experience and are doing great. I had my sleeve 7 days ago and can't wait to see the weight come off but no scales around for now! good luck.

    2 1/2 Weeks Away

The time will fly by and before you know it you will be on the other side. My sleeve is in two days and i still don't think it will happen, had too many delays and postponements. I'm getting nervous and emotional, it doesn't help that my period is a week late and just started now! Good timing.

    Any January Sleevers?

Anninva, thanks for the support. My husband is worried about me having surgery, i had a very bad reaction the last time and he doesn't want to have to go through that again (neither do i!) I am going in to the hospital in 12 hours and will have the op the next day so this is the last you will see of me until about 9 days. Anyone who reads this please keep me in your prayers for everything to go smoothly and i will do the same for everyone on this thread. My TOM decided to show up tonight so it will be in full force by surgery time! Just what i need, as if handling surgery isn't enough. If they give me blood thinners i can't imagine the consequences. I keep thinking i haven't packed something important but my bag is full so what else is there? I will stop on the way to pick up some magazines. I've been rushing around all week trying to sort out the family and animals and will be lost the first day just sitting around waiting but i could do with the rest. In the last 2 weeks i've had a new built house to clean and move into and unpack and had 25 guests for dinner yesterday so its been all go but at least it took my mind off of things. I'm rambling now, can you tell i'm nervous and excited. I still won't believe its actually going to happen until i wake up from surgery, i've had so many delays and postponements. Good luck to all and meet you on the other side!

    Any January Sleevers?

Not long to go now and i'm starting to get really nervous. I actually broke down in tears today for no reason at all. I just hope i have an easy recovery like some people do and not have to suffer the excess pain and nausea. Last time i had surgery i was throwing up for 12 hours afterwards, i don't want to have to deal with that with my new smaller stomach. My husband obviously hasn't listened to me for the last year while i've been talking about this surgery. I was trying a dressing gown on and it was tight across the tummy and he says 'what are you worrying about, it won't be there (my tummy) after the surgery when they remove most of it'. What?!!! Did he really think i was going to have my external belly removed? Everything i say to him goes in one ear and out the other. He thinks this is another gimmick to lose weight, that i will lose some weight and then re-gain it all and then some. He has seen all the quick fixes i have tried in the past and thinks this will be the same. I can only hope to prove him wrong. I will be in the clinic for a week with no internet access and i won't be able to wait to get back home to check up on the rest of the january sleevers and compare notes.

    Two weeks to go

Hi, i can't really answer your questions i've not been sleeved myself yet but just wanted to say i know how you feel. One minute i'm excited and the next as nervous as hell. I keep writing lists of things i'm going to take with me that grows daily and i probably won't use any of it but i like to be prepared! I have one tub of protein powder for when i come home and jello and will see how it goes.

    January 2011 Sleevers

Hi, there are a few january threads about but there doesn't seem to be many of us so not many posts. Isn't it exciting that we will soon be on the other side and on our way to a whole new healthy life! I am getting my sleeve on the 4th and time seems to be speeding up as it gets nearer and i feel i'm not ready after waiting a whole year! I guess i'm just nervous and excited at the same time.

    January Sleevers

Hi Seniorsleever, How great that you only have to wait a couple of months from decision to surgery, i've been waiting for over a year to get it done and can't wait to get it over with. The closer it gets the more nervous and excited i get, i still cant' believe that i'll actually lose weight as well as everyone else seems to do. I will also have to tell my oldest son so he can dog/cat/bird sit but i keep putting it off so i don't have to deal with him telling me i only need to stop stuffing my face with fried chicken if i want to be healthy. He is a raw vegan and nothing goes in his mouth that isn't healthy. I only wish i had the strength his has to do that.

    1 in 200 die ?

I was thinking i shouldn't open this thread and now i wish i didn't! I in 200 is high in my eyes. I'm not sure how many people have surgery a day who visit this site but going by those odds it means that probably every few months one of 'us' dies:o I don't want to scare anyone reading this but i'm scared now. Someone has to be the 1 in that 200 number. Does anyone know if that is the official percentage or just a number they got from some survey? I really want this surgery but having so long to think about it until my date isn't helping. I wish i'd been given a date a week away so i didn't have time to worry myself sick about it. I don't want to ask my surgeon of his mortality rate, i think i'd rather not know.

    January Sleevers

I was planning on doing a low carb diet the week before surgery but i wasn't planning on that week being christmas week! That is going to be hard and the fact that i haven't told anyone about my surgery and we will all be going to each others houses for dinner doesn't help. Everywhere i go i will be offered christmas cake and biscuits and the custom here means i will offend if i refuse. Oh well, i will do what i can. I have 7 weeks until xmas so i can lose some weight till then (i hope!) and i will try to do liquids only on the two days before my date. Being in Europe the protein shakes here are completely different but i've found one i like and have it for breakfast most days. I can't believe after waiting one year for this date that it's finally within reach. My son is getting married in May and i want to be able wear something that i love instead of making do with the only thing i can find in my size!

69 - Only 69 more days until I am sleeved

You count the days? That would drive me crazy, i try to forget about time left or it would seem much longer! I'm obsessed with this site, after a year of reading posts here i should know all there is to know but i can't stay away. Lucky for me, time passes really quickly, i think time speeds up as i get older. It won't be long before we are saying, 'just a few more days!'
