My husband does not support me.
A New Life a New Day replied to brazcan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband did not support my choice to get sleeved either. I invited him to the pre-op with my surgeon and his mind was so closed I told him to just stay home. I scheduled my surgery and I told him the morning I was leaving. This forum will help a lot. There are wonderful and supportive people on this site. I was lucky. Once I got home my husband did help me and even bought me a card and some Vitamins. I hope your husband comes around. Either way utilize the support on this site and even a therapist if you need it. I wish you much luck. -
100 pounds lost
A New Life a New Day replied to doeboy77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome! Congrats - good job! . -
I was told to walk everyday starting the day of surgery. Starting with 5 minutes (around the block or street) then increase everyday. I walked a lot because I was so worried about blood clots. They scared me. At 6 weeks I was able to start strength training.

what will I do in the hospital?
A New Life a New Day replied to mboski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two weeks post-op so I'm no expert. In the hospital I slept, drank fluids, and walked. But I was only there for one night. Maybe if I was in there for three days I would have turned the tv on or listened to my ipod. Ive' read on this site that people brought their laptops, books, magazines, etc. I packed a robe, slippers, chapstick, brush, toothbrush/paste, GasX strips (I got that idea from the wonderful people on this site), something comfy to go home in. Hope this helps! good luck. :-) -
October Sleevers
A New Life a New Day replied to mjchristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my surgery on the 25th. Two weeks post-op tomorrow. I'm still on liquids but can't wait to eat my mushies! I've lost 15 pounds but I'm trying not to weigh myself and be a prisoner to that damn scale! My one month will be on Thanksgiving. I wonder if I'll be able to eat turkey by then??? -
29 Years Old & Getting the Sleeve
A New Life a New Day replied to Secret Surgery 34's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I had surgery on October 25th. I told my husband the morning I was going to have the surgery. I knew he was already against it so I didn't see the need to tell him any sooner. He would just loose sleep and be stressed out. I told my best friend when I got home about a week after. So only two people know in my life. Everyone else thinks I'm recovering from gall bladder surgery. I'm 40 and I wish I would have had the surgery sooner. Best of luck to you. -
Need some support!
A New Life a New Day replied to hopeandfaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been visiting this site for about a month now. Just reading and learning about the sleeve. I didn't register until I read your post. I had an appointment with a surgeon for a consultation a few weeks back. I wasn't going to tell my husband because I had a feeling he might be against the surgery. However, the night before the appointment I got the case of the guilt’s because I was keeping something from him. So I told him about the appointment and what I was thinking of having done. He was so against it and was so closed minded!!! I asked him to go to the appointment with me so he could learn about the surgery and ask questions too. BUT I told him to only come with me if he was willing to have an open mind. The next morning he was sitting on the couch and I could tell he was upset. I asked him how he was and he said terrible he didn't sleep all night and was completely against the surgery. I told him to stay home if he couldn't open his mind just a crack! Honestly, we have been married for 15 years and he has always supported me and been by my side for everything. I went to my appointment and loved my surgeon and can't wait to have my surgery. My husband asked how the appointment went and I said well. He asked if I got the answers I was looking for and I said yes. He didn't ask if I was going to have the surgery or not and I didn't say that I was. I asked the surgeon if he had any patients that had unsupportive spouses and he said yes. Not often but yes there are a few here and there. So, I'm going to have my surgery. I'm not sure of the date yet but I'm a self pay (my insurance will not even consider paying) so it will be in the next month. I haven't told my husband or anyone else. I have relied on these forums for information and now I'll be utilizing it for support as well. I know this is a long post but your post inspired me to register and become a part of this community. Thank you.
