Hi Ginny and Welcome! In my opinion and this is just my own opinion, you have to do WLS for yourself. Everyone has an agenda---health, love ones, be thin, etc. But the bottom line is--it's your body. You have to dig deep inside you and decide if WLS is right for you. Some people are ready for it, while others are not. I, myself, will be having WLS done this Monday (nov 1) I am so ready for this. You mentioned that you are scared. Scared of what? Scared of the surgery, being thin, being healthy, changes. If nothing else Ginny--do this for you! Keep us posted and good luck.. Pam

GRATZ--that is WONDERFUL -
Hey kgremmy , Welcome...You will find what you are looking for here. We have all the support, answers, and the love to share. Believe me, I know the choice is not easy. It took me 2 years to really decide to move forward on this. "Was I ready for a new me?" "Do I really want to miss all the holiday treats?" "Am I ready for this?" A thousands doubts. But one day, a few months back, I tried to get off the couch and I was straining, graunting, trying to pull myself up. That did it. That is the day I made the REAL decision. It's been a long journey. Kaiser makes you jump through hoops but at the end---its the best thing they could do. So this Monday, November 1st, I will have my sleeve done. Trust me when I say this, I will RUNNNNNN to the O.R. I am not scared of doing this. What I am scared of is eating myself to death. I'm ready for a new me! And it sounds like you are ready too! Good luck in your journey...

Hi all-- Well, November 1st is my day---7 more days baby "I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!" I waned to mention that when I did my morning weigh in, guess what, I weighed in at 213 lbs. When I started this program, I weighed in at 240lbs. Even before surgery, I never thought I would be at 213. My surgeon wanted me at 220... Just wanted to share that with you all! Have a GREAT day all!

Hi All, My journey started in May 2010. When I was fighting myself out of a chair, I knew something needed to change. I weighed in at 240 lbs. I went to my doctor and requested WLS. Since I am a Kasier memeber, the process was very easy to get started. Since I live in Sacramento, I had to travel to Richmond for all of the classes. After going to ALL the classes, tests, (blood work, ekg, etc) lost the weight that my doctor wanted (20 lbs), I got my date! This morning I'm at 216. My surgeon wanted me down to 220. So kuddos to me... On November 1st, I will be have my sleeve done. 15 days to go and counting... I want to WISH everyone luck! Pam

Sac_Girl replied to WildIris's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have NOT had the surgery yet, but I will in 7 more days. November 1st is my day, and I'm so excited. So---since May, I have been weighing myself EVERY day. And of course record it. I keep myself accountable... Maybe you can try that. Weigh yourself every single day of your life. Also, I heard that stress can cause weight gain Gratz on the size 10---WOW! -
So, it's 5am and I'm on the forums... I was just thinking about a previous doctor's appointment and I would love to share it with you. Back in June 2010, I went to see my surgeon. Well, there was this nurse and she was taking all of my vitals and etc. She asked me, "How tall are you?" I replied, 5' 5" She said, "Really, stand up against this wall." So she measured me and she said, "You are 5' 3 3/4." "No way, measure me again please." And once again, I am 5' 3 3/4" Well, on my October 15th pysical, I got measured again and this time I am now 5' 3" "Are you joking?" Well, it's offical--- I am 5' 3" I told her that everytime I come here, I keep getting shorter...She laughed...lol So it's true, I am not fat---I'm just short. Enjoy your day ...

Try and stay calm... Sure, anything can happen. They are just letting you know the risk... Focus on the postive things- you are going to look great, feel great, buy smaller clothes, feel better about yourself, and lets not forget about all the medical issues too. (get off meds) In my heart, all the risks that they mention will never out weigh my surgery. I spent the last 50 years being over weight, I will spend these next 50 years being thin. POSTIVE THOUGHTS and remember YOU CAN DO THIS!

That is wonderful! A size 8-WOW...Amazing--- GRATZ!

Well, I don't know what to say about this one. But I have to agree with BigDaddy2SlimDaddy. Since this is a support group and we all should be honest about things, I will tell you a secret. As any Kaiser patient knows, in order to get a date, you have to jump! I almost didn't pass my psych! Even though I did pass, it was one more hoop. In order for me to pass the psych, I had to get approval from my psychiatrist and my theropist. Yes, I under doctors care. I am BPD. (Borderline Personality Disorder) Even though my doctors have cleared me, they are concern about my relationship with food. And I am being watch closely. Well, the point is, talk to someone professionally about food. It might help. Good Luck

January 2011 that's so far away
Sac_Girl replied to NewMe2Bee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey NewMe2Bee, I understand how you feel! Having to keep your weight under control until surgery--what a pain... This is what I've been doing and maybe it will help you. Numer 1 - I weigh myself every morning - 7 days a week. I record it as well...It keeps me accountable and keeps me focus... Number 2 - 99% of the time I am moving. My exercise program starts at 7 am. And from that point I am doing something: bike ride, swimming, house work, yard work, etc. It doesn't matter what I do as long as I keep moving. Number 3 - WE CAN DO THIS! Postive thoughts. Like Drew Carey said, "Junk food is not a reward, it's a punishment " -
You guys are awesome--- This thread is so funny! Have a great day all!
