Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
Filosophia Scandinavia replied to lillita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not an expert - and I have no personal experience, since I havent been operated yet. But I find this article from "Obesity Surgery" November issue 2010 interesting: http://springerlink.com/content/324166mqk175v7m8/ Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Versus Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy for the Treatment of Morbid Obesity. A Prospective Study of 117 Patients ".....One year after surgery, average excess weight loss was 86% in LRYGB and 78.8% in LSG (p > 0.05)..... " But when you read all the details, you can se, that if you BMI is higher than 45, the weight loss % of the extra weight becomes less than 78.8% - just like presented earlier in the thread. I know, that the 60% is used on websites. My surgeon told me, that these "better" stats have almost just been published, and that surgeons on the congresses are talking about these good new outcomes. Better weight loss than the 60-65% they expected. Se also this link http://www.springerlink.com/content/xtg6817825373856/ Early and Mid-term Outcomes of Single-Stage Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy And I think, that people who feel they have failed this operation, more likely will not post as much here on this site. Unfortunately. But I do not know? Just my little theory.. -

Really interesting - I haven't heard anything from my surgeon about avoiding coffee. Bu..t I will avoid it the last 2 weeks before operation, just to prevent headaches, when I am already miserable.. Today i found some good caffeine-free coffee... Well Will ask him about it.

Sweet Mini-me As a danish woman, I didnt know what Reese bars were. I needed to know, what gave you these crazy feelings... :-) Now I know and see (google:-)) - havent tastet it, and will never dare to try. I am glad you are starting on a fresh - maybe many of us just have these crazy cravings for our "special" food. Like alchoholism. I need to work on my cravings for the rest of my life. Not sleeved yet. Thank you for you post - I need to know, that I still have to work with my food issues. This is why this forum is fantastic.. -
Ghrelin (hunger hormone)
Filosophia Scandinavia replied to cabcab's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
As far as I understand - the Ghrelin dissapears for some time after removal of the fundus. But after ½ year to 2 years, the intestines takes (or pancreas ad Tiffykins say's) over, and starts to produce the hormone again. But not as much as before? -

Great comments above I will ad She is upset, but why, because she is concerned? If you tell her, she might tell the rest of your family. Is is a lot to deal with yourself, if you are only 21. I have told, perhaps too many - but it is easier for me to manage. I was surprised, that people were supportive. You could also make up a bulletproof story. That you were thinking about it, but decided to go on weight watchers or something. Or one of your friends had the operation, and you needed to know, what it was about. You can not tell her who it is . it is a secret. But what about the scarring? And can you avoid her for the first period, so she doesn't se you drink protein-drinks :-) You must write your own manuscript for this altered story. So yo9u can answer everything, when you start to loose weight. For me it was easier just to tell - but if I knew people would not support me, I would rather tell white lie. I do not want to deal with all the negative stuff, from people who doesnt have the problem. By the way - the only reason, that I have a photo on here, is that I am from Denmark, and no one knows about the sleeve operation. So very few danes, will ever visit this site.. I would never use my pic in my own country -

Strange question
Filosophia Scandinavia replied to lisabug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sure, that so many of us change. We will become more confident. And it is easier to get out of a bad relationship, when you have more selfesteem. BUT - beware of the honeymoon fase. I have read a lot about people, who feel like teenagers again - need to kiss a lot of new people :-) So if you ar ein a good relationsship it is good to be aware of this honeymoonfase. Suddenly we like our bodies again, and other do as well. I am concerned myself.... Havent had the operation yet. -

I have the same problem with food! We need to say goodbye to our comforting food. But we can still eat a LITTLE of everything. And we need to be comforted in other ways - find new coping strategies. I am trying to TALK with my friends, meditate, sleep and get massages, instead of eating - have fun. It will be the only way pout for me, I have tried everything - and I am so much looking forward to this operation. I have a love-hate-relationship. And this will help me BIG TIME Change is sometimes scary - but I am so sure, it will be better. And when we get used to it, then it feels normal. Congratulations! I will be operated in November. YaY -
I should be so happy right now ?????
Filosophia Scandinavia replied to janinemaire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some good advice have been given Just wanted to say, that I am sure that many of us overweight people feel the same way. We need to say goodbye to our comforting food. An example: My sister had a Bypass in may, and have been treated for Binge eating disorder - and or just overeating. I have some of the same problems. She still has a few issues, but it is nothing compared to before the surgery. We can still eat a LITTLE of everything. And we need to be comforted in other ways - find new coping strategies. I am trying to TALK with my friends, meditate, sleep and get massages, instead of eating. These week I am saying goodbye to my old comfortfood - will be operated 30th of November. Family and friends - it is also difficult for them, taht YOU change. Will you still be the same? Will you still give them attention? Or mayby they think that it is a HUGE operation? We are all different. I have the same thoughts as you. But I am looking forward to be operated, to have a tool and some help with my overeating. (And will have some therapy as well - for the fifth time :-)) HUGS
