I'm on the Road to Onederland!! Who's with me?
dizzylizzy replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It took me almost 2 weeks to get that 2.2 pounds off, but I finally did it! This morning I am officially in onederland! 199.8. I was wicked excited! My next goal is 190 which is when I will be halfway to goal. My goal after that is 180 when I will weigh less than the 6 foot hubby. After that, only 30 pounds to goal.. One step at a time - we can do it! -
I also had my sleeve on October 4th. I have lost 18 pounds since then (5 weeks), The last week I have only lost .2. That's crazy for an entire week. Some days it makes me nuts, but I just keep reminding myself this is a process. There will be stalls, and there will be weeks we lose alot. In the meantime, I am enjoying my new clothes, and feel really good. I still am not into food very much, so I do mostly different Protein shakes. I even brought my Magic Bullet into the office. They all laughed at first, but now I have people jealous and wanting some of my smoothies..lol

A HUGE LIST of Protein drink recipes
dizzylizzy replied to Tiffykins's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks for the recipes. I have been trying a few of them, and have even been able to modify them to make them more ot my taste. My Magic Bullet is getting a big workout. -
I have been using it in my Protein shakes (I have to add splenda to the plain cus it's a little sour), but I get over 20 grams of protein from the yogurt and 24 from the Protein powder and it's yummy!

My "Quasimodo" belly
dizzylizzy replied to mysparky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine looked really weird too. And once in a while it still bloats up if I have gas.. (I am almost 6 weeks out). I call it my oompa loompa belly... -
You both got much more time than I did. I got 2 weeks off of work, then I worked from home week 3, and was back in the office 3 weeks to the day of my surgery.

dizzylizzy replied to 6kiddos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to have to try that. I frist tried getting down the horse pills. No go. Then I cut it into thirds. It made me soo nauseas I thought I was gonna die. I had to go home from work cus I kept throwing up. I cna't think of any other way to get it down, so I will try your method. Cross your fingers.. -
new people (and everyone) It's not just the scale - celebrate all successes
dizzylizzy replied to dizzylizzy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great news! I'm not usually so optimistic (ok, maybe I am), but I realized this is the fun, easy part. I know that's hard to believe, but once we reach our weight loss goals, we have to work to maintain. And success will be harder to measure.. Now, we have so many little successes. I can't tell you how happy I was the first time I was laying down and my stomach sloped inward.. I wanted to lay around naked!..lol Ok, it went back upwards and wasn't totally concave, but used to look like a beached whale. Congrats on the booth! And to everyone else who posted such favorable feedback - thank you. I am really glad if it helped anyone. I am so excited about all the little positive things that are happening that I wanted to share. People who have never had a weight issue don't understand how exciting some of these things can be for us.. (I can't wait until I fit into a seat on a plane comfortably... ) That's the great things about forums like this - we can share with people who understand. -
new people (and everyone) It's not just the scale - celebrate all successes
dizzylizzy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 weeks out, but I wanted to share my thoughts - especially with those who just started. I felt a little emabarassed that I couldn't do this on my own, and had to have my stomach ripped out through my belly button. To me, that's pretty drastic. So I am taking this very seriously. My surgeon had me on liquids for three weeks after. That was way more conservative than most others I read on here. But I figured that (a) he had my best interests in mind and ( it was only a few weeks out of my whole life. Who cares if I missed a week or two of food - that's what got me in trouble in the first place anyway. I write down everything I eat and drink. It used to be really annoying, but is finally a habit. I've even turned it into a journal and sometimes write down my thoughts and frustrations. (I have on page that just says I hate this, I hate this, I hate this...lol ) It also has my measurements, and other milestones (I jogged 1/4 mile) I find that when I write it down, I realize I am not staying as hydrated, and need more Protein. I bought a pedometer and write down my steps and every day I try to increase them from the day before. My hubby will even say "don't forget to write that down"..lol I have an outfit that I bought that is 2 sizes too small. Once a week I try it on, and yesterday the zipper zipped. It is still way too tight, but I see the progress. It's important to see progress beyond the scale. I am losing slowly (2-3 pounds per week), but I think that's ok. It;s more than I was losing on my own, and if it was too fast I would have even worse muscle tone. This rate of loss gives me time to try to keep muscle tone while I am losing. Stay positive and make sure to count every success - not just the loss from the scale. (This coming from someone who weighs myself 3 times a day...lol) Your successes can come from inches lost, a new outfit, an excersize goal, finding your hip bones.. If you think of it this way, you have a new success all the time. For those of us who are new, this is our "honeymoon" - we will be seeing lots of changes. Let's Celebrate them all. -
I know where you are coming from. I was totally excited about my mushies.. I am still not alllowed meat and limited fruit (carbs), so I do a lot of eggs. I get a cheese omelet at a restaurant on Sundays, and it makes about 4-5 meals for me... I didn't used to like eggs that much, but now I love them, which is odd to me. My first egg when I was allowed mushies was the best things I had ever tasted I thought! ...lol I do greek yogurt and add Protein powder. That gives me over 20 ounces of protein for 1/2 a small container of yogurt. I also do alot of cottage cheese, and sometimes mix it with applesauce (I know - it sounds gross - but I love it). I do a Protein shake in the morning, which keeps me full for hours. I then try to get in liquids. Then I do my egg for lunch and then more liquids. I then have to remind myself to have food for dinner, which is when I usually have my yogurt. I know some people don't do eggs well, but I have no issues, and they keep me really full for a long time.

I think it's great that you are involved and looking into this. The more support we have, the better, and your son is fortunate to have you. My mother was also nervous aobut my doing this, as was my hubby. They thought I would somehow sabatoge myself and go back to my old eating habits. I got angry at them before I realized, I always did that before - why would this be different? This is different because this wasn't the same old thing. This was a serious step, which I do not regret. I am only 5 weeks out, but I am finding that I don't get hungry, and I eat such small portions, that even if I did cheat, I am not sure how much damage I could do, calorie wise. My tastes have changed and I now crave meat, and do NOT want sweets. But the best part is I realize I WILL get thing and I WILL reach my weight loss goals. I never truly thought that before - I always had a little voice in my head telling me I wouldn't do it. I don't know any Dr's in Ohio, but you should be able to find a good one through research. I know many people have gone to Mexico and been successful, but it scares me. The biggest concern to me is "after care" - many people who have had the procedure in Mexico don't get proper after care, aren't told how to eat. I have personally seen several people who have had sleeves leak because they tried to eat food right away. So make sure that your son does the research on proper eating after so that he doesnt have any complications.

I'm on the Road to Onederland!! Who's with me?
dizzylizzy replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am on that train with you! I only have 2.2 pounds to go and can't wait! My hubby (who is a thin marathoner) sooo doesn't get it cus he tells me that 199 isn't really a suceess for someone who is 5'4". But the psycology of that number does wonders! -
5 weeks post op on wensday but feeling regretful....
dizzylizzy replied to blessedwithlove78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sleeved close to when you did (mine was October 4). My first three weeks I was only allowed liquids, and now I am on mushy foods. I haveven't even tried much else, since I am not yet allowed solids. My surgeon told me it was to protect my staple line and to give my stomach time to adjust. I don't know if this made a difference, but I don't crave anything. I do get hunger pains, but I wonder if it is really acid. Because it feels different than hunger used to. Like someone else posted, I didn't go through something this drastic to cheat. I journal everythign I eat and drink each day. I make sure to get in 48-64 hours of Fluid and when I do eat, I made sure to get in my Protein first. Once I get my protein in, I stop and see if I am still hungry. I never am. I may not be full, but I am not hungry. Now if we can just conquer the "head hunger" we will be set. I recommend writing down everything you eat and drink. It was a pain at first, but now it is just a habit, and it really helps me see how much I am really eating and how much protien I am getting in. Hang in there - you just need to find what works for you! -
Patti, Great article. I shared this link with my hubby, and his reply was "so your solution is to put duct tape over your mouth? I can live with that"...lol Thanks for sharing

On my pre-op liquid diet, I noticed I had terrible breath. My hubby would cringe at times it was so bad. After surgery it was the same, but I thought it was just cus of the liquid diet. I am now on mushy foods and the problem hasn't gone away. I brush my teeth three times a day, use mouthwash every couple of hours, chew gum have breath spray, etc. Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm glad you posted this - I thought it was just me.. I am an avid reader and for a few days I could not focus. It was sort of blurry, but more like the words were moving - I just couldn't get my eyes to focus. By the end of the first week it was pretty much gone. I noticed it improved at about the same rate my dizziness passed. I am thinking it probably was dehydration, cus once I was able to actually drink on my own, it got much better.

How often do you get on the scale?
dizzylizzy replied to a.walker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I "officially" weigh myself once a week - on MOnday mornings. I have a scale that will track your loss from the last time you get on.. However, honestly, I am on the scale at least twice a day. Every time I am home and go into the bathroom I get on the scale. I can't stop myself..lol The worst part is that I will go 2-4 days without losing an ounce and then all of a sudden it will move a few pounds. But for those days it doesn't move, I drive myself crazy.. I really need to stop obsessing. But I used to obsess about food, so I guess this is healthier.. -
I tried many different multi-vitamins.. The only one I can tolerate (except the gummies, which are not complete) are the Flintstones complete chewables. They aren't the yummiest, but I have gotten used to them, and they don't make me nauseas at all.

The more I eat, the more I lose?
dizzylizzy replied to Carrie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm at the end of my three week liquids (post-op). Each day I was maybe getting 300-400 calories. I was losing weight really slowly and had NO energy. Well three days ago, I had a bunch of carbs - I had tomoato Soup (not allowed) and sherbet. I felt better, the neausea went away, and I lost 2 pouns that day. Since then, I have added more carbs and calories and am up to almost 800 per day and I am losing faster.. -
I was sleeved on October 4th. I lost a few pounds the first week, and then only 3 pounds the second week. I read other posts and wonder why I am losing so much slower too. You are not alone in this. I am now 17 days out and have lost only 12 pounds.. But that's close to a pound a day.. it took me 45 years to put this weight on, and if I lose 15-20 pounds in a month, I consider myself way ahead.. Now if I could just stay off the scale three times a day..

Uggghhhh....annoyed
dizzylizzy replied to Fleur de lis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I sympathize with you, but I agree with BigDaddy.. I have been sleeved for 3 weeks and I miss food. I see and smell it, and I want to be able to enjoy it like I did before. But this is something I am working to get over.. My hubby is a runner and he thinks of food as fuel. That's what I want. I want to not enjoy the food. Will it be a big adjustment? Absolutely.. But my love of food is what got me in trouble in the first place. I think of food as my drug and I need to kick the habit. I get so frustrated at not being able to eat, but I try to concentrate on what I am doing now, not where my next meal is coming from. I want to eventually enjoy food occasionally, but mostly just think of it as fuel. I want to be thin and healthy and not food obsessed.. -
5 Weeks Out - Everything Tastes Awful
dizzylizzy replied to susieq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you posted this, cus I thought it was me. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and still on liquids. But before the surgery I loved all flavors of Crystal Light, and loved Vitamin Water zero, and Sobet etc. Now I can't find anything to drink that i LIKE the tatse of, and have been doing more plain water than anything. It all tastes "off" to me, like it went bad.. I really hope this goes away.. -
I agree with all of the other posts.. First, congrats on the weight loss so far. I was sleeved on the same day as you, but I am only down 11 pounds. I am on a liquid diet for 3 weeks, which seems way more conservative than most people on here. I read the other posts and am tempted to try some soft foods. BUT.... I remember I had someone cut me open and take out most of my stomach. That's not normal - that's drastic. Did I do this to make things easier? No. I did it because I need to change my life. So I am starting a whole new me. I am going to follow the Dr's orders, even though I wonder why he is so conservative. What is an extra week on liquids? It took me over 40 years to get where I am - what is one lousy week without food? I am going to drink these Protein shakes even though I make a face after every sip (although the Atkins dark chocolate is the least bad) I am going to think of food as fuel and not try to think of ways to cheat or to eat my fave foods. I am going to get some kind of excersize very day even if I don't feel like it. And I will be proud that I did it even when feeling tired. This is my chance to change my body AND my life and I am going for it. Don't think of what foods you want. Think of what you want your life to be - how you want to look, how you want to climb start without breathing hard. And do things the right way..

I just want to cry
dizzylizzy replied to MrHopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks out and still have some nausea. However, I noticed that the more I drank and the more Protein shakes I get in, the less the nausea. I have a popsicle first thing in the morning and that seems to help. I find that if I drink right away, it irritates my stomach, but if I have liquid slowly at first, like with my popsicle it helps. As for your depression, I can relate in a weird way. I am not depressed, but I had a panic attack on Friday. I already need somethign new to wear, so I went to the store. I used to wear a size 18 or 20. So I tried on a 16 and it didn't fit right, but it did fit. So I went to look another brand and realized that I didn't have to shop in the "fat girl" stores or departments. I could look anywhere - in any store -any department. I should have been thrilled, but instead I was overwhelmed. I literally broke out in a sweat, and my heart started beating hard and I had to go home. I then got home and cried. Why? No clue.. My mother laughed her ass off and told me I was nuts.. But we are all going through major changes and we have adjustments to make. Hang in there - it will get better! -
Expected a stall - but a gain???
dizzylizzy replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only lost 2 pounds during week 2. Then I gained a pound since Friday - and I am still on liquids. However, I now fit clothes that I didn't fit into 2 weeks ago, so I am getting smaller. That was really helpful since the scale was making me nuts.. I think it's just Water weight and my body adjusting. I am sure you've dieted in the past. I've had times where the scale didn't move and didn't move and then all of a sudden it was down 4-5 pounds in one day.. Thats what I am assuming will happen here.. I hope..
