    on my way!

After years of deliberation about having surgery, I am finally on my way! Surgery date is September 30th! I made my decision when a co-worker had the sleeve done and told me about it. I thought it was a better alternative for me than gastric bypass. The whole re-routing of my intestines seemed scary to me. I am still nervous about the post-op and pray there will not be any complications, but the excitement of what my life may be like in a year from keeps me pushing forward. I imagine a life where I can go into any store and find clothes, not just the specialty stores, where I can go to a movie theater and not worry about the size of the seats, and be able to go into the "regular" stalls in the restroom! I am interested in hearing how other's lives have changed now that they have had the surgery and if there are any regrets at all.

down 13 lbs and 6 days to "the day"

I was ecstatic to be told at my doctor's visit yesterday that I have lost 13lbs since the first appointment with them! I had been trying to watch my p's and q's and I guess it worked. I have lost about 7lbs since the dreaded diet began. It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't hungry and craving chili cheese fries:) I hope after the surgery that all those crazy craving melt away with the fat.
  3. I am scheduled for my surgery (sleeve) on September 30th. However, I am still wondering if I made the right decision on which surgery to have. I chose the sleeve because I didn't like the idea of re-routing my intestines, but am nervous that I will not lose as much weight as I would if I went with gastric bypass. Anyone out there losing 100+ pounds? All the literature says that I should lose 40-60% of excess weight, but that is only about 90lbs and I would really like to lose about 130.

7 days til the big day

7 days now on the pre-op diet and 7 to go. It has been hard, not gonna lie. It seems the protein food does not sit well with me and honestly I would rather not eat than eat the diet food. I cheated last night and had a bunch of broccoli (if you could call that cheating). It felt good to eat something that felt "normal", but regretting it because I wonder how I am going to do post-op if I couldn't even make it 7 days on a diet. Good thing is that in those 7 days I have lost a bit over 6 pounds! It makes it worth the torture! I have been thinking of food more the past two days. Wishing I could have this one last time or that one last time. Hope it all passes after surgery. I go today for my "product check" appointment. Can't wait to get on the scale there. Probably get yelled at for not eating every 2 hours. Not nervous about having surgery, but am nervous about the weeks after surgery. Praying all goes well and I heal well. No infections and no leaks please!

did I make the right decision?

Thanks everyone! I do have hope and I know that the surgery is not a cure-all for my bad habits and gene pool but a great tool and jump start to a better life. I hope that once some of this weight is off I will have more energy to focus on better health. Congrats to you all on your success and those in the same boat as me (beginning stages) can't wait til months down the road when it all pays off:)
