Looking for a N.CA mentor/buddy
My New Life replied to irkenpanda's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did the same thing Shannon. I was one of the first to be offered the sleeve in Richmond in 09 by Dr. Fisher. I decided that I was not ready and besides I did not want to be a "test case"!!!!!!!! I did go ahead with the sleeve in october 10 and could not be happier!!! Just got into 12s yesterday. I have not seen that number in my closet for 20 years Good luck! Write back anytime. I am in Elk Grove CA. -
OK ok I was a bit obsessed with the scale and found myself jumping on the thing daily (or more--sigh) which only seemed to depress me with the lack of movement on the darn thing! So I gave up the habit ! The weight seems to be coming off so slowwwwwwwwwly ---grrr. But, if you do the math, even one pound a week is a 500 calorie deficit every day which in the old days would have had me starving and sneeking food. I decided that even a pound a week is great progress. Why was I kicking myself? I am not gaining. These pounds took 20 years to put on. if it takes me a year or two to take them off ---fantastic!!! So today I stepped on the old scale and I was 204 When compared my last month's number of 211 , I am down a very respectable 7 lbs. even through Christmas goodies and no exercise to speak of (unless you count shopping!) I have started walking every morning 45-60 min with my new dog and we have even tried to jog (made it 1/3 mile 3 times last week) which is something I have not been able to do in well over a decade or two. I feel amazing and have TONS of energy. I have found myself running up and down my stairs just because it feels good! (weird).......before I never set foot up there unless I absolutely had to and it was an effort to make it I can tell you! So everyone, please don't rush yourself or beat yourself up. Hide that scale and just enjoy the new you! weight loss ">My link My New Life

My Mom is considering the sleeve...
My New Life replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine out of Richmond with the head of the department Dr. Fisher. He is the one who brought the sleeve to Kaiser. Before this they only offered the band and the RnY. Everyone there was great. My father-in-law is now going to classes at Richmond. He is 65 with multiple co-morbidities. I am excited for his future. So. good luck to mom! "> -

Wow congrats! I weighed myself today and I have officially hit the halfway point already. I am down two sizes and am lighter than I have been in over a decade. I no longer have to see that dreaded X on my clothes. Junior midrise pants fit???? I hold them up and still can't believe that I can step into them and zip them up with no problem Enjoying the ride and can't wait for part two of my journey. This is the best thing I could have ever done for myself. Thanks for the inspirational words. My New Life "> -
Yes I get the hiccups too! If I eat too much or too fast I get them everytime. They are strong and hard to get rid of too. I consider them an early warning system

How do you force yourself to eat?
My New Life replied to cherice95403's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try getting a nonflavored protein powder to sneak into your soups etc. I also exchanged some of my water for milk which I am tolerating fine and a spoon of whipped cream cheese either plain or melted in my soups (stirred into pudding. These calorie dense additions made all the difference to my mood and energy. I keep my calories around 600-800 a day and I feel tons better than when it was at 300-500. Food is just medicine now. BUT 15 lbs down already and at day 13! -
My dr says no more than 20 lbs at work for six weeks. I am picking up the kids on occasion and I have already carried shopping bags, but I feel great and try to mostly just use my arms. I am 13 days out.
-
Itchy is good--healing! Mine was too. Now all 5 holes are about gone. I am on day 13.

I had surgery on 10-4. No drain or staples though--those sound horrid! The surgeon just used surgical glue. The first two days were hard from nausea, but I felt almost no pain. I am at 2 weeks tomorrow. My diet includes sugar free puddings, cream Soups (blended or strained) with some added Protein powder (nonflavored) or 1% milk, light yogurt, broth, applesauce (could not eat first week), tea, and Water of course (about 30-40 oz). Kaiser does not promote Protein shakes or milk, but I felt very lightheaded until I started adding protein to my diet. If yogurt is on their list, then milk should be too. I will start with some thicker soups this week and maybe some blended light yogurt with fruit and Protein Powder. I am on blended now for two weeks then "modified soft" for six long weeks after that! So no REAL food until January--ugg Down 15 lbs though

I am 5 days out and was feeling very light headed, dizzy, weak this morning to the point where I decided I had to get in a few more calories. It is not on my list of foods, but I have been drinking 2% milk all day instead of Water and it is going down well. I feel a 1000 x better too. Protein, fat, sugars are just what I needed---I was eating yogurt but I am getting tired of all the sweet stuff. Popcycles, pudding, applesauce, crystal light--yuk! The only thing with a bit of sale is the broth I drink so I am going to continue with the milk until I can get to the real food stage. Works for babies Down 10 lbs from Monday......

I am 5 days out now. Last night watching Chopped I think I might have had a few hunger twinges. Hard to say! Definitely no real hunger or desire to eat. I stick to my dr's plan and food is just a chore to complete right now. Good luck!
-
I am 5 days out now. I never really experienced pain, but the nausea and weakness has been an issue. I could not imagine going back to work this week. I took two off, but I might take a 3rd. We will see. Take as much as you can. Good luck.

i am officially bummed out

My doc said that they intentiaonally put several pounds of Fluid in you so that you can go a few days without lots of fluids after. There is also a lot of internal swelling that doesn't even peak until day three. I am at day 4 now and I still try to stay away from the scale. I cheated once. Hiding it is a good idea. Maybe I will have hubby do that for a few weeks. My New Life 261 high 237 day of 230 today 161 goal -
Having Trouble Eating
My New Life replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's scary living on only a hundred calories or so. I am at day four so I know it will change. It just doesn't seem healthy. The thought of or even sight of food grosses me out right now. I guess this is a "good" thing now, but it is still scary. PS: How do you get your ticker on here? I made one, but cannot figure out the transfer. 261 high, 237 day of surgery, 229 today --- goal 161 -
1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
My New Life replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 4 days out. I started stage two with broth and applesauce with little issue. I am lightheaded though and can only get in 20-30 oz of water. My doctor said as long as your peeing and don't feel thirty to not worry about the 64 oz. He called that a crazy amount of fluid to try to push through. That makes me feel better since he is head of the department. The nausea day two was horrible. Dry heaves are not fun. I finally got a prescription that seemed to work. I am still running a bit of a fever, but I don't have any real pain. The nausea has calmed down too. I have another week off work. I hope that I will be up to going back. Right now I feel like a truck ran over me -
borderline repulsed by food!?
My New Life replied to sleeveorbust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to close my eyes during food commercials! YUK--I never noticed how many there were..pictures of food too are everywhere. I am 4 days out and 10 lbs down. Broth and applesauce just started. Found out the pudding is too thick. We will see how food looks in a few weeks! -
3 LBS over goal weight! Surgery soon....
My New Life posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery is set for October 4th and worse my preop physical is set for 3 days from now. I have been struggling to keep at my goal weight all summer and now I am 3 lbs over! I think I might actually be sabotaging myself. For a bit of history--My top weight last year was 261. I went through all the steps for surgery and dropped to 218 on my own within 4 months. In fact, I was so successful that my surgeon talked me out of surgery. Of course, I have crawled back up and when I hit 253, I went back to the doctor for a new surgery date. But this time, he canceled my surgery (was set for June 4th) because I developed iron deficient anemia due to years of heavy periods. This knocked me into a bit of depression, which I have eaten my way through as usual!! HA. Now that my anemia is under control due to some horrid shot they gave me which has thrown me into artificial menopause, (HELLO hotflashes!) I am back on the surgery schedule. BUT I have been fighting my goal weight and have only been below it once this summer (for my weigh in). They will cancel me if I cannot pull off these few pounds in the next few days. Could it be the menopause? I have been on about the same diet as the one which last year worked so well. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions? I wish I could just tape my mouth SHUT! -

Well I got the appointment moved to tomorrow afternoon. I managed to lose 5 lbs!!! I wish I knew how that happened?? That is with my home scale. We will know tomorrow. It is my preop physical. Then I have surgery next Monday. Excited! PS: How do you get your ticker on here? 261 start, 238 current, 145? goal. How does one figure out goal anyhow? -
My surgery is on October 4th. Currently I am at about 1200 calories a day. It is hard to imagine that I will be fine on only 600 or less per day! I am always hungry now. I really hope this works!:001_tongue:

:001_tongue: Mine is October 4th at Richmond CA Kaiser Permanente. Having a HUGE problem staying under goal weight. My current is about 2 lbs over with clothes on. You think I can weigh in without ? HAHA It is crazy trying to control, but all I think about is food lately. Hopefully it will get better after surgery!
