Kaiser hasn't a clue what they are doing.

What happens if you gained 10 pounds ? I'm not advocating you put your health at further risk, but our weight changes daily... and I think you should raise a big phoo phoo and wear weights to the weigh in. Don't give up x

    High Blood Pressure

I've got my old medical records here and back in 2007 when I got my UID my blood pressure was similar. So I'm going to take it with me to my appointment on the 4th and have them start monitoring it. I also did a program called lighter life where I had a check up every 30 days so I've got those records as well and it's fairly consistent. I hope it's one more good reason to approve me for the surgery but in the meantime help me take some steps to bring it down.
  6. I've been going through some information online about Hypertension. I never knew what the limits for this was until tonight. Based on what I've been reading, i've got high blood pressure. At my last appointment with my GP they didn't take my blood pressure but I know previously it was 160/80 and based on what I've read they prescribe medication when people are over 140. Does anyone else here have high blood pressure going into this surgery and what is your doc doing about it before your surgery ?

    Surgery Date: October 13th

Wishing you the best country girl!
  8. I'm going in to discuss the VSG with my GP on October 4th. I'm 5" 0.5 inches and I weigh 286 pounds and my BMI is just over 56. I would like to get down to 150 - 140 lbs although it says a healthy weight for me would be 125. I'd like to make sure that this is the right surgery for me so if you can share your success with me that would be great. Especially if you started out with similar stats. Thanks

Talking about bariatric surgery in class

Wow what a bunch of epic C words ... their tax dollars paying for WLS Complications... are they tapped ? Your insurance pays for any complications it's not a state funded pot that pays for medical insurance. You pay for your insurance and it's none of their damn business what you do with it... Arghhh sorry that made me mad. Here in the UK I could see people having those opinions with a little more clarity - but it is a state funded pot from people's taxes. However, people with obesity have a multitude of health issues which cost them far more in the long run than the surgery and most people understand that. There is still alot of ignorance but when they are dying from cancer from their smoking or needing liver transplants from the excessive drinking I'll be standing there saying couldn't you just buckle down and stop hitting the sauce/smokes... To heck with them. They don't realize that WLS surgery is approved by insurance companies because they feel in the long run it will save them money on your care. But explaining that to a bunch of thick headed ignorant fools is a waste of your breath.

  13. I'm new to the forum so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. I'm in the UK and looking for other people who are considering the sleeve or already going through the procedure who are in the UK. I have a BMI of 56 and my GP has offered me weight loss surgery. I've been battling my weight for 10 years and I'm strongly considering the Sleeve. Thanks for reading.

Hi Sue, Thanks for your response. My GP put my BMI at 56 at my appointment on the 11th. At the time she suggested surgery I wasn't really sure and have spent the last week thinking thinking it over. I've scheduled an appointment today for October 4th to start the process on the NHS. How long have you had to go through this ? What have you had to do ? Jen
  16. I'm only planning on telling six people. My husband. My three best friends and my mother and sister. Those are my support group and the only people that I've been open about my weight loss struggle with. My sister who is overweight, yet judgmental and doesn't diet or anything will probably lash out saying I'm a failure and make fun of me when I'm thin - but that's her problem. I'll be healthy and enjoying my life. I work with all men and I imagine they will notice the difference but they are supportive when I'm dieting and as far as they will be concerned I've been dieting. Which will be true because I've been on one diet or another for the past two years.

    I Feel Like I'm Starving

Hi Fleur, Check out Jok-N-Al's sauces they are made for low carb diets and might add some interest to the chicken/fish etc.. that you're eating. Davinci sugar free syrups have 0 carbs and 0 sugar as well and you can use them in coffee, Water etc.. they come in many flavors. There is also low carb dressings and ketchup as well. Hang in there :-)
  18. Congratulations and I hope your surgery goes well. I spoke with my mother tonight who is a nurse and was expressing similar fears and she pointed out to me that while there is risk with any surgery if I remain obese I will suffer more ill health in the long run and probably require more surgery, medication etc... I worry about not being able to enjoy food as well as I love my food, but I will learn to love other things. good luck with your surgery and I'm looking forward to reading your post-op posts soon.

Anyone in here from the UK ?

Hi Coops, I'm really curious about the pre-op process and what people went through before hand. I have a friend who did a gastric bypass in 2005 and I've heard its fairly similar. Did you do yours on the NHS or private ?

Hi Chilo, I am in Leeds, West Yorkshire so I'm not sure which hospital I would be having it at. I assume an NHS hospital since my GP has recommended weight loss surgery. They put me on Xenical for the time being although I've not noticed any weight loss. I am not sure how quick they are about it, but if I had my druthers I'd have it done in December and just get it done. I'm kind of emotional thinking about it. It's really inspiring to read these boards. How are you doing so far ?
