Dumping Syndrome w/ VSG?
ScaleWarfare replied to alexer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually have had issues with dumping pre-op, usually as Rootman explained by over eating. Since then, I've been OK, unless I eat too fast. I seem to get a huge wave of sleepiness as opposed to the chills/sweats/and stomach issues. Just uncontrollable tiredness. -
Extremely Sleepy after eating
ScaleWarfare replied to Phat girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 8/22, so we are fairly close in surgical dates. I have this issue sometimes too, I eat and BAM I'm ready to sleep. I told to my PA about it and she said it's likely because I'm eating too fast. I do notice that when I slow down my consumption, I dont have the same issue with immediately needing a nap, so there might be something to it. Might be worth a try -
6 weeks out and hungry!
ScaleWarfare replied to emmas mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on my sixth week and suddenly, as of this past weekend, BAM I suddenly feel like I might be hungry randomly throughout the day. I'm on a PPI, and I get full very fast, sometimes less than an egg will fill me up, but I am definitely starting to be able to tell when my body wants more fuel. Last night for example I thought I was really hungry, 1/2 of an egg later and I felt stuffed. I'm trying to focus on low carb options. There's random times too though where the thought of food makes me nauseous. I feel like it's just one big learning curve where one day is different than the next. -
Shirataki noodles are the bomb!
ScaleWarfare replied to italianlady13's topic in Vegetarian, vegan, raw foods
I have a bag in my fridge, I loved them pre-op but am nervous about them puffing up (expanding like normal pasta or rice) in my new tiny tummy. I'm 6 weeks post op now, any idea how they would do this early out? I'm cleared to start experimenting with what my tummy might like! -

BCBS Federal - NUT not needed?
ScaleWarfare replied to beachlover09's topic in Insurance & Financing
My supervised diet was with a nutritionist, so I was covered for both. The first appointment that I had was one on one with a nutritionist, the other appointments were in a group class with a nutritionist. My surgeons office has the supervised diets pre-organized for us if we want to participate in the ones that they offer. I figured that was easiest They know what the insurance companies require for the most part. I'm not sure where you are located, but one of the biggest things I've learned with Federal BCBS is that it matters who your plan administrator is. BCBS Federal is the over seer of the plan, but they contract out to the various BCBS administrators, and that is who actually takes care of the approval process. For example, here in the DC area, if you are in MD or DC your administrator is Care First I believe, but in Northern VA where I am, my administrator is Anthem. -
BCBS Federal - NUT not needed?
ScaleWarfare replied to beachlover09's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Federal BCBS and was required to do a three month medically supervised diet. Here is the link to the plan book for Fep BCBS insurance. The information about bariatric surgery is on page 56-57 http://www.opm.gov/insure/health/planinfo/2011/brochures/71-005.pdf Hope that helps! -
