The cheeks getting flushed is from the hormone surge from fat cells breaking down. -
Husband Suddenly NOT Supporting Surgery
lisabug replied to daezeey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hubby still thinks that I am insane for doing this. He doesn't say anything negative, but doesn't think that I will follow through with this like everything else I've tried. He asked me if I was going to miss eating whatever I want. I will miss it I'm sure, but I will not miss being 250 lbs. He also has insecurities about me losing the weight and not wanting to be with him anymore. I think it is natural for them to go through all of this. My hubby has been much better over the last few days. It has finally sunk in that I am doing this with or without him. He has decided to go along this wild ride with me. Give your hubby some time. This is starting to become real for him and he has emotions to deal with too. You are his wife for better or worse. They love us now as we are and don't completely understand why we feel the need to change. Of course we all say for our health, but it is so much more than that. I would be lying if I said that was the reason I am doing this completely. Be honest with him about all the reasons. Some how it seems to help with the insecurites. This is 100% about you and not him and not your relationship. Good luck and be patient. I was ready to give up but give him time to work through this. -
Personally I would allow myself to have nuts, seeds and beans. In moderation of course. I find that the fat in nuts keeps my digestive system more regular. I think the benefits out weigh the carbs on this one.

Unsure of Wanting Surgery
lisabug replied to xrayman1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only you can make this decision. Don't let threats of other people make your decision. There is nothing easy about weight loss surgery. You still have to control what you chose to put in your mouth everytime you eat. Also you have tried at dieting and have like most of us have. If they are truly your friends they will support your decision to be healthy. -
Surgery next week... HELP with Protein!
lisabug replied to MrsMaddBroadway's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the unjury chocolate shakes. I like them. The unflavored can be mixed with almost anything. I didn't like the smell or texture. Also the broth can't be too hot because it can break down the protein from what I have read. You can order samples from unjury. -
Tiffykins, What type of foods did you eat during the losing phase to keep your carbs around 30. I have been paying closer attention to the carbs and am shocked the number of carbs in most foods. Thanks Lisa

I remember that pain from my gallbladder surgery. I felt like I had whiplash. Then one morning I woke up and it was gone. Hang in there, it to will pass. No pun intended.

A lady that I work with that had the bypass done looks greyish and chalky. She is very pale skinned. She does not follow her diet. She does not take vitamins. She lives on twisslers and diet soda. Her hair is horrible too. She is sick all the time and a little mental too. Moral of the story is eat your protein and take your vitamins and not to be stupid.

I am taking off 2 weeks. I will come back to work with a restriction of not lifting more than 10-15lbs for 4-6 weeks post op. Some people feel up to going back to work after the first week but get tired easily. I would prepare to take off 2 weeks.

back pain- what can i do to help?
lisabug replied to steeler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is from the co2 that they use during surgery. The only thing that helps is walking. I went thru that after my gallbladder surgery. Adventually the body will absorb the gas. You should be feeling soon relief soon. -
Confused....Please Help
lisabug replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have to wait longer because of the suture line in our stomach. Our stomach is healing early on. My diet is 1 week Clear Liquids with Protein shakes. Week 2 full liquid. 4 oz of Protein shakes 3 times a day. Add protein to cream of wheat, applesauce, yogurt w/o fruit or to cream Soup. The goal is 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of Water. My nut said hydration is the most important thing for the first few weeks. Each day try increasing your protein until you can hit goal. Week 3 and 4 pureed foods. Anything you can put in blender and make to a toothpaste consistency. At week 4 can also start some soft foods. Every dr is different, but this is an abbreviated version from my post op class -
Surgery Scheduled: December 1!
lisabug replied to 2Fluffy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am having my surgery 12/1/10 also. I start my pre op diet on 11/28. I was originally going to the seminar to get the band. My surgeon discussed the pro and cons of each of the surgeries. Once I saw the sleeve, I knew that was what I wanted. I researched everything I could find on vsg. So glad that I didn't get the band. My husband thinks I am insane. I have started buying things to take with me to the hospital. I have also bought a few different types of shakes that I like now. Hoping to still like after surgery. Hate the Vitamins. I feel like a little kid getting ready for Xmas morning. -
Finally I spoke to a person. They are requiring half to be paid upfront. They said my part would be $2700, but that is before aetna's adjustments to negotiated cost of care. From previous experience that can be quite a difference. Less than 2 weeks to go. I start my pre op diet the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Only 3 days of clear liquids and 3 to 4 protein shakes a day.

Yes because it is an elective surgery. I know the 3 main hospitals in my area that do bariatric surgery require payment up front.

He would have a permanent residence on the couch. It is the complete disrespect of you that infuriates me. Are you avoiding a confrontation with him? It would make me wonder what else he has said behind my back and to whom. I would let Tiffkins go ninja on his ass!!

paperwork being submitted
lisabug replied to stromgardgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pcp wrote on his letterhead what my weight was march 08 and April 09. They just want something to show that all this weight didn't happen overnight. You should be fine. -

As long as you have everything. They approve quickly. My company has a bariatric nurse that I had to talk to throughout the process. She works for Aetna and she called me 2 days after submission to tell me I was approved. -
That is one of my fears. I read on here that the office called to schedule her for her lap band surgery. Everyone joked that she should write sleeve only on her stomach. When I called my surgeon's office to see if everything had been submitted (in Oct) and the operator said I see that you are a future lap band patient. I was miscoded in their system. The insurance coordinator had submitted for the sleeve. I double checked my approval to verify. I can't imagine being at the hospital and go through that. Have you been on a pre op diet for 2 weeks? As said before at least you figured it out before the surgery. Hope you get rescheduled soon.

I have to go to the hospital next tuesday to get blood work done. I didn't even think about going there in person. I guess I will take some time off of work so I can deal with it all.

Do your tastes really change?
lisabug replied to Lila21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my nut about this. She said it was pretty common from the hormone changes, but returns back to normal. I think it may also be from eating sf stuff for so many weeks. I remember when I stopped drinking soda and tried it again after several months and it tasted nasty. -

Preop the day before Thanksgiving
lisabug replied to LovelyLadee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of things I found out was that I could meet with the nutrionist when I go to my follow ups. No one had mentioned this until I went to see the nut for my pre op post op diet. Also find out about the vitamins they want you to take. B12 sublingual, nasal or shot. How much they want you to take. I didn't know that I needed calcium citrate supplements on top of the multi with iron and iron cannot be taken with calcium. Straw or no straw when drinking. Leak test before discharge. Some do some don't. I'm know there is a lot more others will add. -
Who is coming for dinner?
lisabug replied to BZButterfly79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way about my dad. I had no intention of telling him because I felt that he would never support this decision. I decided that I am 34 years old and do not need his approval. I decided this is my choice and that I was not ashamed of my decision. I felt like I was doing something wrong because I felt the need to hide from my choice. I decided to tell him over the phone before he comes to visit for the holidays. He was a little shocked at first. I explained why I was doing this and all the research I have done. By the end of the conversation he offered to pay my deductible and 20% that the insurance does not cover. I had planned on waiting until the beginning of next year so I could put it in health care spending account. Sometimes parents can surprise you. -
LAST TEN FREAKIN POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lisabug replied to SimoneVSsimone's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Try using the Ada diet. Most diet programs are designed around it. I was doing 1500 cal a day and lost on average 10-15 lbs a month. You can google it. It is used for diabetics so it is structured so that you get the good carbs that your body needs. -
I can't afford to lose Brest tissue. I think mine will indent if I do. Lol. I always say that they started growing in the 3rd grade and stopped in 4th grade.
