Yay to finally getting approved. Also happy that you are taking the advice of others on having the surgery. I am 1 week post op and I a m losing very SLOW, but I am still glad that I did this. I know once my body isn't so pissed at me that the weight will start falling off. It is weird at least for me anyway, I always loved greasy fattening foods. Now I couldn't imagine putting that in my little tummy. This may change overtime, but at least I will think before putting anything into my mouth. Good luck with figuring out a surgeon. Go with your gut instinct.

I turn white as a ghost when it happens. I hope it gets better once I start other "foods" today. Excited to have cream soup today.

I have been wondering for awhile if my marriage would last thru everything. At first my hubby was on board, then off, then on... 2 days before surgery he tells me that he didn't know if he was going to be able to take me to the hospital the day of my surgery. I said that I would take myself. He figured things out and decided to drive me. I spent the next 2 days in the hospital by myself (except for friends) which I was fine with. I did what I needed to do that way( sleep, drink whatever) He picked me up the yesterday. It took a while to process my discharge. He spent the entire time texting someone or talking on his phone. When his family called he put on the darling husband show for them. We stopped to get my meds and I had to go in to get a few things. I turned around and he was gone. I tried calling his cell phone. No answer. He called be back after a while, he was looking around and was on the other line. Finally get home, he starts handing me stuff to carry up the 2 flights of stairs (split level). Really!? He doesn't want to get the rest of my stuff out of the car. He did when I ashen my daughter to get it. He went back to work. My mom took my girls to dinner and I showered and went to bed. Today he gets up and does not say a word to me. Right before he leaves to go to work he starts yelling at me because the cats were in the room with me. They have been like guard dogs since I got home. They are allowed in our room except when we are not home we make them leave our room. Anyway, not once did he ask how I was feeling, if I needed anything, hell ask me about the weather. I know I have inconvenienced him by doing this or at least that is what he has told me. He is overweight himself. He doesn't want the surgery which is his decision. I know he is insecure about me losing weight. He also still thinks that I could have done it on my own. Really, he has seen me try and fail over the years. Sorry for the whining and rambling. I am kinda done....

Question for those still on liquids
lisabug replied to DMSRCHICK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been going as often either. On pre op clears I was going nonstop. I'm not swollen at all and decided to cut my broth out because of all the sodium, but still not going that often. I think our bodies are hanging on to everything we are putting into them right now. I think my body is po'd with me right now. Lol I am still glad that I did this. I know in the long run the weight will come off. -
How can it be possible that no one knows the definitive answer to this?
lisabug replied to armstrong1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What type of pre op diet are you on? How many carbs are you suppose to have a day? Are you using an Internet site to track to diet? -
I was in for 2 days. My surgeon said I could go home after 1 day but recommended I stay 2. I was glad to go home. I found it easier at home to sleep and control my pain. I am glad I stayed 2 days though. I was ready to go home on day 2.

7 days out and not losing
lisabug replied to DMSRCHICK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow!!! I don't know what I would do without my protein shakes. I am sure once you start getting calories in you will start losing. Good luck. It may not happen as fast as we all want, but a year from now we will look back and wonder what we were all worried about. -
7 days out and not losing
lisabug replied to DMSRCHICK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I had only lost 2 lbs since surgery. I looked at what I was taking in. I was only getting 500 cals a day. It is hard to add calories on clear liquids so I added another protein shake. I lost 2.5 lbs yesterday. Not sure if it is my body finally kicking in or adding calories, but at least the weight is coming off now. -
No surgery yet...lots of questions
lisabug replied to llipps's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1) 2 days 2) 1-2 weeks depending on your job. 3) bread haven't gotten there yet- not recommended in losing phase 4) RNY causes malabsorption. The sleeve is a normal working stomach just smaller 5) main major complication is leaks. Only 1% experience this. -
So confussed about protein suppliments~
lisabug replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love unjury chocolate. You can order samples from them. I am able to use the chocolate with skim milk even during the clear liquid stage. I asked my surgeon about this several times because everything else I read said clear had to be clear Protein. Funny how all surgeons are different. The strawberry sorbet which is clear is good also. I like to mix it with wylers lemonade mix. The main thing I have found is to buy a drink blender cup. It is a plastic cup that has a blender ball in it. I drink it straight out of the cup so I do not smell the protein. I worried about this to pre-op. Haven't really had issues with protein. Vitamins on the other hand. Ugh -
Newly Sleeved and have questions
lisabug replied to JamieL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Dec 1. I got out Friday from the hospital. They gave me liquid pain meds. I have not taken any today. I usually take it at night so I can sleep easier. Are you able to shower? The warm Water does wonders. My stomach is rumbling too. My surgeon told me to take chewable pepcid twice a day. I can't wait until I can switch to prilosec. I feel hunger today even after I have my Protein shake. I know it is not real hunger, but it is driving me crazy. I can't wait till next week to have cream soups and applesauce. I can also have yoplait whips on full liquids. I know all of this is higher on carbs, but a couple of bites will be nice. I have been thinking about meatballs since I read Tiffykins 18 month post. I also want chili. I font know if anything really helps with the thoughts until we can start eating. At least the thought of greasy food is not appealing. I can't wait until Wednesday do I can have creamed soup!! -
Listerine breath strips or Sf breath mints. I'm not sure how long it will last. It depends on the person and a lot of other factors.

It is so funny how every dr is do different on everything. Preop diet, postop diet, pills, time off work, vitamins, ppi, and so on. It just proves that medicine is an art form bit just science.

The gas is normal. Your bowels are absorbing the co2 used during surgery. Walking and hot showers help the most. I don't know about the sippy cup. You get a lot of air with those. I keep a bottle of water next to my bed. Make sure you sit up all the way when you drink.

Someone from the pharmacy came up to my room to go over all my meds. The one thing with birth control is that it may not be as effective post op while being crushed. I did not know this until I spoke to the pharmacist at the hospital. They reccomended to me to use a second form of bc or switch to nuvaring or depo. Also all my meds can be crushed. Taste nasty, but it is only for 4-6 weeks. As for the 3 day pre op. That is what my surgeon required too. Every pre op diet is different. If you trust your surgeon then trust that he knows what he is doing with the pre op diet. I am 4 days post op and doing great so far. Good luck with your surgery. It is worth it and I am just starting.

On a brighter note, I did realize something today. I didn't wish I could eat because I am upset with my husband. In the past I would have gone straight for the pantry. I didn't even think or regret that I couldn't indulge to deal with my stress. I plan on talking to him tomorrow. There is something going on with him. I was looking at our checking account and he has been eating more in the last 3 days than he would normally eat in a month. He went to 4 different fast food places yesterday alone.
-
Congrats!! I was sleeved the day before you. Glad to hear you had a good experience. I feel pretty good too. Feel a liitle rougher today than yesterday. Overall glad to be on the other side.
-
I am concentrating on myself. I am not allowing him to guilt me about my decision to have surgery. I decide to do this for me and for the right reasons. Either he is along for the ride or I will do this on my own. I did find out that he lied to me about working last night. He had told me that he worked past midnight to get caught up. Seriously don't be stupid enough to get pizza across town from where your work is and use your debit card and your cell phone to order it.

Unjury is my favorite too. I liked it pre sleeve and now post sleeve. My surgeon allows me to have the protein shakes mixed with milk even during the clear liquid stage. I bought the vanilla so that I can mix it with bananas during the mushie stage. Can't wait to be able to put peanut butter in the chocolate with some ice.

I didn't have to do barium. It was this clear radioactive stuff. They told me to take it as a shot. I said I was told I can only sip. They insisted that I take it like a shit of tequila. So I did without a problem. Then I had to do a second leak test right after that. They put bright blu dye on ice cubes and I had to eat it. Then after an hour they checked my drain to see if it had any blue. No blue which means no leaks. Then I got to eat ice and drink Water. I got diluted apple juice because my blood sugar was really low. I am not diabetic, but they tested my blood sugar every 8 hours. I have no problems with drinking. No nasuea yet.

I had the same thing. I saw my pcp 3 times. My nut 4 times and physical therapist 3 times. I logged my food 3-4 days a week and exercise 3 days a week. After all was done my pcp sent my weight history. My nut wrote up a summary of everything with diet and exercise and weight for 3 months. My friend is going thru this right now. She is doing the same thing except seeing the surgeon 3 times instead of pcp.

Yes I am sleeved. Waiting to get discharged. If they don't hurry up I am going to to it myself. Lol. It has only been 3 hours since the orders were written. Overall it hasn't been as bad as I thought. The pain is tolerable. I am glad it is over. I passed my leak test yesterday. Have been on clear liquids since yesterday. Only get hungry occasionally and once I drink something I am fine. Have had no pain drinking as long as I am sitting up on the edge of the bed. Now for the weight loss to begin.
-
Your nutritionist should weigh you. You have to maintain or lose weight during this period. Make sure you are keeping a food log too. I only saw my exercise therapist once a month. Once my paperwork was submitted, I was approved in 48 hours.

I had 2 different leak tests, both came back fine. I have 32 oz of Fluid in. As long as I sip their is no pain. So far so good. I have been up walking. My surgeon said this was one of the easiest surgeries he has done. Trying to think if there are any questions I am forgetting to ask him? I have gone over meds, ppi, Vitamins, post op diet and the drain will come out tomorrow. Is there anything else that I should ask? I could have gone home tonight, but I am staying til tomorrrow. My husband is working and my mom has my girls at Santa night at school. Thanks for all the support, already happy that I did this!!
