Hi Robin! I'm also a vegetarian! There's not many of us out here. My nutritionist helped with showing me many different high-Protein vegetarian items, most I already knew about but it was very helpful to go over it all. I had my surgery Nov 16. I've had some complecations (but not because of being a vegetarian) so I'm still on a full liquid diet. I'm having trouble getting all my Proteins down. I mix my Protein powder with Westsoy soy milk which has 11g protein per 8oz. I try to have a serving of unjury chicken Soup (it's vegetarian) it has 20g protein. If you have any questions let me know.. and let me know if you find any high Protein shakes that taste good! Kelli

Sleeved Nov 16 - Readmitted to hospital 20 days later
FlyGirl replied to FlyGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
UPDATE First I just want to thank everyone for the well wishes. I was finally released from the hospital a couple days ago... Luckly I didn't have to have the PICC line or feeding tube. Ended up I had Mesenteric Venous Thrombosis (blood clot) and Pancreatitis. The DRs said both of these can be caused by "trama" (surgery) to the abdomen. I don't have any gall bladder issues (yet) so it's not from that. It was absolutly horrible, I've never felt so much pain in my life. I feel slightly better but still need my pain and nausea meds everyday. Due to the clot I have to be on coumiden for at least 6 months and I'll have to get my blood checked once a week. I'm on full liquids and having a very hard time getting my fluids and Protein down. I guess on a good note I'm down about 26 lbs... If anyone has experienced this please message me, I've looked online and can't really find too much on it. I've read about some people that have had RNY having these issues but it was a couple years after surgery. I just had my surgery Nov 16 2010... Kelli -
Sleeved Nov 16 - Readmitted to hospital 20 days later

UPDATE Well Moday (12/13) will be a week now since I went into the hopsital. I'm still in a great deal of pain. Pain meds have helped but as soon as I try to let up on them I start to feel just as much pain as I didn't when this all started. They have my on a couple different blood thinners, antibiotics, nausea meds, morphine an and muscle relaxers. I had another CT scan on the 11th and there were no changes. Blot clot is still hugh and pancreas is still inflammed. My doctor said that he really didn't expect to see much improvement this time, he said he was making sure it wasn't getting any worse. So that's good news. So for now I keep walking, resting and trying to do everything they tell me to do. I'm really starting to get depressed. This is deffinatly not what I expected. I was doing great until all of a sudden this happened. I was eaing all of the right things, drinking my fluids, getting all of my walking and taking all of my pills/vitamins. I know in time it'll all pass and I'll be happy with my sleeve. It's just that with Christmas coming up it's just been hard to deal with. Oh yeah and i've gained 18lbs since Monday... I know, Water weight but still depressing. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I really don't have anyone to talk to that can relate and it really makes it easier keep focused and stay positive when I can read about other peoples experiences. Hopefully my next update will be one saying that I'm back at home and feeling good. Kelli -

Hey I just sent u a msg back. I can't believe this is happening either. I guess I knew blood clots are common after surgery, I just wasn't expecting it to happen in my stomach, ya know.. I think of them always starting in the legs. I was able to see the CT scan of it and it is huge! @thinoneday - thanks for the cyber hugs, I'll keep u all posted. -
KabinKitty, I'm so happy for you!! Congrats!!

I was having the same thing happen to me for about the first 10 days. Baby sip, pain, gurgle gurgle, tiny burp. I didn't think it was every going to stop, but it did. Just give it some more time. -
I'm glad you posted this. I am right there with you.. I read all about people who stop taking their pain meds after day 4 well I am on day 12 and today was the first day I went all day without taking anything. I might take something before I try to sleep tonight. It still hurts when I stand up, sit down, take a shower, cough and try to sleep in any other position besides on my back. I'm normally a belly sleeper so it really sucks sleeping on my back. And I've also had no nausea or reflux. My best friend who had this surgery about 2 months ago calls me a "woosie" and my fiance says "oh it can't still hurt that bad"... Well it does. I'm hoping by this magical "day 14", that I keep reading about, I'll feel like myself again. lol, I'll let you know in 2 days.

HELP- List of things I will need for SURGERY!!
FlyGirl replied to MrsMaddBroadway's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some things I brought to the hospita were... -my own slip on slippers for walking & flip flops for the shower -chapstick -a smal mirror (so i could look at my belly easier, hehe) -sugar free Vitamin C drops *ok'd it w/ my RN before I took and only took them to try to get my bowels to start waking up (bc the sugar alcohols start to get the bowels up and running.) And it worked. I had about 4 Vit C drops before I went to bed and the next day everything cam out fine, - Gas X disolving mouth strips. I read they can help with the gas they fill your abdomn up with, Seems like it works for some but not for others,, I'm over 1 week out and I still have pain in my left sholder from the gas pressure, -my own Vitamins, the did supply all but didn't have some of them, but I made sure I was ok to take them. - A comfortable! bra! I got one at Kohls.. it's more of a sports bra but kinda loose and comfortable, I wore that everyday I was there, because you have to walk so much and for me I deff needed some support even thou it wasn't much it was better than nothing, -cell charger a few pairs of undies Bring your own deoderat. I used the toothbrush, toothpaste & mouthwash. I -

FlyGirl replied to noname's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow! Congrats! You look great and you got to goal in such a short time, I can't wait to get there! -
I've tried these a couple different times. I wish they were good because they are such low calorie, but man they are nasty! They smell like fish and the texture is like rubber bands. If you happen to find a way that they taste good, please post it. I've had no luck.

If you don't like the tartness of the Chobani try putting in a little splenda in it. The vanilla is the only one I've tried so far and with the sweetener it makes it much much better.

Here is another yogurt with 16g protein in the Vanilla flavor. The other flavors have around 14g. They are very smooth and tasty too! Chobani Yogurt - I've only found it at Kroger.. http://www.chobani.com/products/c/nonfat -

Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
FlyGirl replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currenty on full lliquids and Cream of Wheat (original flavor only) is allowed. I make it with soy milk (10 proteins) and sweetener. Last night I found a Cream of Wheat with high protein(6)/high fiber(4). 1 pack will last me about 3 times. This has helped me SO much. I chew it even though I really don't need to but it just gives me the feeling that I'm actually eating something. I LOVE potatos and since every other commercial on TV seems to have mashed potatos I have come up with a cure for my craving for potatos... I get the Campbels Cream of Potato Soup and mix it with my high Protein soy milk (plain flavor). Then use the emersion blender, so there's absolutly no chunks. It's sooo yummy. For my pizza craving I make tomato soup... I know that's a stretch but it's been working for me. Now these are not that high in protein so I make sure I get all/most of that it before I have any of these Now if I could find something to cure my cheese cravings, haha. Kelli -
I've officially started getting the hiccups! I don't mind if I am at home.. But it's not good when I'm out. For reals.
