  1. I'm 9 months out and still have a rather loud stomach at times. Haven't been able to pin it down to any particular food though. It was much worse the first couple of months following surgery. Small price to pay!
  2. I'm 9 months out and have lost a total of 114 lbs (30 or so before surgery). It's very slow now... 2-3 lbs per month. The doctor said that's normal, but it's still hard to take after losing so much so fast! I need to step up my exercise a bit and see if that helps get me going. I'd like to lose at least 10 lbs more.

    Hairballs or Hairy Throat???

I've had a weird feeling in my throat since surgery (1/12/11). Kind of like something is pressing on my throat. I initially thought it was from the intubation, but it hasn't gone away. The doctor would like to scope it, but I'm holding out. Keep hoping it goes away. May just have to break down and do it.
  4. I'm with you guys on this one. I was sleeved Jan. 12, 2011, and have struggled for the past month. I'm beginning to think I may be at the end of my "honeymoon" period and have to start REALLY working to lose. I sure hope not, cause I'm still nearly 50 lbs from my goal! I've been lax on the exercise side lately, so will try to step it up a bit. I'm hoping this will help get me back on track.
  5. The worst part for me was the dry mouth and throat after surgery. They put that tube down my throat and it roughed it up a little. I couldn't have anything by mouth for the first 24 hours after surgery... not even ice chips. My lips were so dried out, even with chapstick! Those swabs they gave me didn't help much. Also, I was in silent panic mode the last 5 minutes before they wheeled me off for surgery. It was all I could do not to say "I've changed my mind!!". I remember they came for me, I kissed my husband goodbye, and that's it until after surgery. They must have started pushing the sedative at that point cause I don't remember a thing after that.
  6. Just curious... What changes do you make to your diet when you've reached goal and want to maintain your weight?
  7. I was back to work 6 days out and driving myself. No problems!
  8. I didn't want a CPAP and refused to even talk with the doctor to get my sleep study results until I started thinking about weight loss surgery. I knew my insurance company would require me to be compliant before they would give their approval. I used the nasal pillow and never had problems with air in my stomach. Even still, it took a couple of months for me to get used to it. I did sleep much better, but still couldn't wait for the day I wouldn't need it any longer. I'm 6 months out from surgery and haven't used my CPAP for 3 months. As I lost weight, I found the pressure setting was too high. I spoke with the doctor and she lowered the level, but it wasn't enough. It still felt like it was blasting air into my sinuses all the time. I decided to try sleeping without it and discovered I didn't snore any more and slept through the night. I sometimes wake a couple of times during the night to roll over, but go right back to sleep and I feel very rested. It was a great day when I could pack away the CPAP!
  9. I was scared of the whole nausea thing but didn't have any after I got out of the hospital. I always have some the morning after surgery, for some weird reason. The nurses were quick to help me out when it struck, so that wasn't even a problem. If I had an issue at all, it was probably being a little sore, but what can you expect? Just take it slow and easy and you'll do fine!
  10. I'm currently 5 months out and a little discouraged. My PCP halved my BP med at 3 1/2 months out and indicated I'd probably be off it in a short while. I work in my PCP's office so have the nurses check my BP every 2-3 weeks, but it's not dropping any more! It's not high by any means, but hasn't dropped below 120/80. I had so looked forward to leaving this med behind! What is your experience with getting off meds? Thanks!

    Do you still get hungry?

I'm 5 months out and never get hungry. I get a feeling that I describe as "empty" when I haven't eaten for 6+ hours. At this point I know it's time to eat something or I'll get the shakes.
  12. I'm 4 1/2 months out and taking Protonix every day. I was under the impression I'd be on it the rest ofmy life.
  13. I totally know what you're saying. Never hungry, just sort of empty feeling at times. Eating has lost most of it's appeal. I say most, because my head still wants all that stuff, but only until I actually eat a bite... then the craving is gone.
  14. What are your favorite flavors and where did you buy them? Thanks!

    Gummy Vitamins...

I didn't know Bariatric Advantage made a capsule vitamin. I need to check that out cause the big chewables make me sick.

I STILL SEE MYSELF AS FAT

Can't remember the last time I looked in the mirror and liked what I saw. It's going to take a long time to change my self-image
  17. I had my surgery Jan. 12 and went home on the 13th. No problems after a small bout of nausea the morning after surgery.
  18. I'm almost 7 weeks out and have many of the same issues. I work in a very busy medical clinic and simply don't have time to drink as much as I should. I keep liquids with me at all times, but find it hard to get them in. I'm also struggling with my vitamins and calcium supplements as they make me sick. I've started adding calcium crystals to my drinks and greek yogurt so hope this will suffice. As far as the protein shots from GNC... nasty stuff!
  19. My surgeon has never mentioned anything about an upper GI at 3 months. If I'm not having any issues, I don't see it happening.
  20. I have no recollection of a tube down my throat, only the scratchy feeling afterward. I wouldn't sweat it if I were you.

    Can I Boycott Calcium???

I'd be interested in this answer too. The chewable calcium makes me nauseous and I'm now using the crystals. What a hassle!
  22. I'm 4 weeks out and have noticed a feeling of having a lump in my throat for the past several days. Seems like I notice it after breakfast (normally a protein shake) and it sticks around the rest of the day no matter what I eat or drink. It's uncomfortable and makes me wonder if I've done something to my throat. Has this happened to anyone else?
  23. I was sleeved 1/12/11 and am down 18 lbs. since surgery. Doesn't seem like enough to me... 18 lbs in 30 days. Guess I was expecting too much.
  24. 4 weeks out and no problem with straws. I think a cup with lid and straw actually helps me get in more fluids at work. It takes too much time to remove and replace the lid on a water bottle when I'm answering the phone from hell, typing on the computer or checking patients in or out (I work in a very busy medical clinic).

    Do you still get hungry?

I'm 4 weeks out today and have not experienced any "real" hunger. It's weird because my head tells me I should be hungry but my stomach hasn't gotten the message!
