  1. I'm on the other side now! Amazing how the body recovers and bounce back-I feel great! (touch wood!)

  2. Having surgery on monday and apart from total panic and angst I have today enjoyed my "last supper". I know I of course will be able to eat afterwards aswell, but still felt a need to serve a complete feast for dinner tonight. Champagne and shrimps for starters and beef tenderloin with potatoe gratin for main course, a really nice Amarone wine to go with it. Normal? I assume and hope so... Tomorrow will be a day of excitement and I will most likely be a complete wreck of nerves. On top of trying to deal with all my feelings of death anxiety I will have to give myself an injection tomorrow night...something I have never done before....:-S I wish I could fast forward until monday afternoon and I would be reassured that I would wake up after surgery and all went well.
  3. Pre-op medications swallowed and I'll be leaving house in about 15 minutes, so nervous I'm shaking right now...

  4. Here's another 1st of November sleever, and trust me you are not the only one nervous and rambling - I'm not having one sensible thought today and can't manage to string a sentence together when I'm talking to my daughters. Once again I find it strange how much guidelines differ; I'm supposed to be at the surgery at 9 tomorrow morning and my only restriction is no food after midnight tonight and only clear liquids tomorrow morning. Good luck to us both for tomorrow!

    "Last Supper"

Hi, The injection is a Fragmin self-injector, prescribed to be taken day before suregery and for 10 days afterwards. It's for preventing blood-clots. I'm hoping I will be alright with it tonight. It's a very small needle which is to be put into a very big belly - so should be ok.
  7. Been on pre-op meetings today; tests, meeting surgeon, nutritionist and psychologist. This is realy happening!

  8. Roseib: 390-450 calories per day? Seriously? Again, that is seriously putting your body into starvation mode. I'm not implying that your surgeons office and dietist experts are incorrect, I can only give you my thoughts and share the guidance given by the swedish dieticians; 6 meals per day minimum! Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack, Dinner and Snack. If you noticed better weight loss when adding calories and number of meals I would go by that if I where you. Good luck and best wishes!
  9. Without being an expert I would say you are eating way too little! Like you say; your body needs more calories just to sit and blink which means that your body is put into starvation on 600-800 calories per day. This means that your body's natural response will be to in panic hold on to every fat cell there is. What diet advice where you given by your surgeons office? Again, if find it very interesting that advice and requirements differ so widely. Here in Sweden the advice given post-op is that dieting days are over and that after operation you should try as much as you can to loose the calorie counting and diet thoughts, but as regards to calories per day the advice is more like at least 1200 - 1400 per day in the beginning - you will still loose weight. So my advice is to increase the daily intake for a week and see what happens. Best wishes and good luck!

    I need a smoke!

I find it quite amazing how guidelines and requirements differ; I was told by my surgeon that of course smoking isn't good for me but that if I was quiting, it had to be atleast 6 weeks before surgery. I should not quit 1-2 weeks before as that could actually be dangerous during anesthesia. If I didn't quit at least 6 weeks beforehand he preferred me continue smoking until post-op! I don't want to be a smoker, so being 7 weeks pre-op I'm quit 2 days ago with the help of tablets. Wish you good luck with both ignoring the "smoking-monster" and your surgery!
  11. Hi all, New to the forum, I have read your postings for a couple of weeks and it has been a great source of information for me during my decisionmaking. I live in Sweden and health care works a lot different here (available for everyone and not based on insurance). When it comes to bariatric surgery however, only BMI +35 will be paid for by government and process can be extremely slow. I have investigated and decided on a Sleeve instead of GBP and this is only available privately. So both my choice of surgery and my "low" BMI (33) means I will have to pay myself. I met the surgeon a couple of weeks ago for a consultation and I now have my operation date set to 1st November. :scared0: I could go on forever describing my background as overweight, yo-yo dieting etc etc, but I'm sure you all know it already. Basically, I've decided that 20 years of dieting is enough. I want to spend my 40th birthday (next year) being normal weight and healthy! I find it difficult to understand that an operation will be the solution, but the surgeon gave me the statistics which convinced me. So, decision is made, now I just got a couple of weeks of being scared to look forward to; I'm scared of going into the operation and not wakeing up again, I'm scared of complications post-op and I'm scared of not knowing who I'll be once I'm not overweight anymore. :confused1: So, lots of stupid questions will probably be coming your way in the next couple of weeks.

    Any Novembers yet?

Yep, 1st November is my date (done in Stockholm, Sweden where I live). Curious about this drain you mention? I have not heard or read about any drain for the op I'm having done?! Why and where is this placed? :confused1:
