I had my surgery with Dr. corvala in TJ. I felt the hospital was very clean and the staff was professional. I am an RN so I was particularly aware of how the actual surgical suite should look. It was very professional and sterile as well. The hospital rooms are very nice and I like the fact someone can come with you and sleep on the daybed. They are not charged for this. Dr Corvala met with me before surgery and answered any and all questions. I guess the reason I went with him was that he has done more plications than anyone else. Experience is very crucial. The day I was having surgery he had Dr.s from the states visiting and observing him do the plication surgeries. So I felt he would be especially careful to do an excellent job. I was very happy with him. Hope this helps you decide. It is a big decision.

Plication Weight Loss Check In
itsabouttime replied to MS LISA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Good luck! I hope all goes well for you. I had little pain but just felt lousy for a couple of days. Lots of burping! Just be patient the first couple of days, it gets better quickly. I was back to work on day six. I'll be thinking about you today. -
You are absolutely on the right path. This surgery is amazing. It is the tool that has made weight loss possible for me. You will feel so much better as the weight comes off. I can walk better, cross my legs etc. It's great. I think the plication is the better choice because you don't have to mess with fills etc. I was going to do the lap band originally but am so glad I chose the plication. Any surgery is scary but this is so non invasive compared to many other surgeries. I was back to work in six days! You will do great.

Plication Weight Loss Check In

Iguidry, Sounds like you are doing well on your liquids. I followed the surgeons guidelines pretty closely as far as when to progress to soft foods etc. Your body will tell you quickly if you are eating something it isn't ready for yet. In the soft food stage I ate baby food meats and just seasoned them. I was surprised how good they tasted. I also made mashed potatoes. Made a good meal. I felt like I was eating real food again after liquids for two weeks. Focus on your Proteins. I got to where I HATED the Protein drinks. So I've been trying to get my protein other ways. I'm at 5 1/2 weeks now and can eat most anything. I have found food doesn't taste as good as I remember or expect it to. There are very few things I really like anymore. I guess that helps with limiting the diet! This is a side effect I didn't expect. Anyone else notice this? -
Plication Weight Loss Check In
itsabouttime replied to MS LISA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Well it has been five and a half weeks now and I have lost 21 lbs. Not as quickly as some of you but I'm hanging in there. It is still great for this amount of time. I've been walking but plan to go back to Curves this week. I eat about 800 to 1000 calories per day. Slow and steady! -
A question 4 Those who had TGVP...Have you ever vomitted?
itsabouttime replied to Sarah Elsekhawy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Interesting topic, vomiting. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and right after surgery I was vomiting a lot. It has slowed down considerably. I still find if I eat too much after about a half hour to an hour I will vomit. It only happens about once a week now. I find it is hard to read my new stomach. Sometimes I feel hungry right after eating. I know I am full but have the hunger sensation. There seems to be no pattern to it. Other times I just feel full, no problem. I do hope I get this figured out. I always want to eat more than I should so that is something I need to deal with mentally. That small portion of food on the plate seems too small. My mind says, oh, you need more food than that! It's a mental game I know. I figure with time I'll get it. -

Just had plication surgery and need urgent help with pain
itsabouttime replied to jg62's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
This is totally scary. I have never heard of this happening before. How did she get a hole in her stomach and part of her stomach die? Was she plicated too tightly? This surgery has been advertised as so safe with few if any complications. I guess it was just a matter of time. I feel so bad for her and pray she survives this. It sounds like her whole abdominal cavity is infected by the stomach contents. I do hope we get an update soon. I have been thinking of her all the time. It's good we have this group to care about one another! -
Plication Weight Loss Check In
itsabouttime replied to MS LISA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
MsLisa, I had surgery with Dr. Corvala in Tijuana, Mexico. It went very smoothly. I felt pretty normal by about day ten. Since I am in my 50s I think healing etc takes longer than for those in their 30s. The first couple of days are rough but then it gets better. Everyday is a bit better than the day before. I've been walking 30 minutes daily. I know the weight loss will be slowing down now but I hope to lose at least two lbs a week until goal. Who are you looking at to do your surgery? -
Plication Weight Loss Check In
itsabouttime replied to MS LISA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Well, it's been two weeks now and I am down 15 lbs. Clothes are fitting better and my face seems thinner. This is amazing. I haven't been able to lose weight for several years and now it is finally coming off! Started with a BMI of 32.9, so I want to lose a total of 60 lbs. I'm on my way! -
I'd like to share my experience after 2 weeks of gastric plication
itsabouttime replied to Sarah Elsekhawy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Well, I made it home safe and sound. The travel went well. I tried some chicken broth once I got home and must have eaten too much. I guess it will take time to recognize the signs my body is telling me. So I ended up on the floor whimpering in pain. Wow, the stomach and left shoulder pain was intense! It took about 15 minutes for it to calm down but boy was that scary. Did any of you have difficulty getting comfortable at night sleeping? I find myself waking up about every half hour and trying to change position. Can't tolerate my left side yet as it feels like there is pulling. I am so looking forward to being a month post op. That seems to be when most of you felt really great again. I'm five days post op now.... Each day is a little better. Say, I was wondering if Dr. Watkins patients have to give themselves anticoagulant shots until day 7? That is dr corvala's protocol and I was just curious. Anyone? -
I'd like to share my experience after 2 weeks of gastric plication

Ckorte, Thanks for your information. We do all react differently and that is just the way it goes. Another gal had the plication right before me and had awful sharp gas pains. She couldn't bird it up like I could therefore she was in tears with the pain. Now, two days later, she is doing tons better. I went for a walk to the pharmacy and outside cafe area to sit. It was so nice to be out of the room. My daughter came with me and she has been very impressed by the care here. When I first told her about it she wasn't sure, but now she sees how nice and clean everything is. Tomorrow I fly home and will be on my own sice my daughter lives in CA. Hope it goes alright. I am going to take your advise and ask for a wheelchair. You really have been such a great source of information about the plication, thank you! -

Hi all, Well I had my surgery with Dr. Corvala in TJ Mexico on Wednesday. This procedure is not a walk in the park. I have really felt lousy and have vomited several times. I am supposed to fly home tomorrow and I hope I will be up to it. Dr. Corvala and his staff have been great. I guess I thought it wouldn't be so uncomfortable. No real pain, just discomfort is the problem. I've been walking then sleeping, walking and sleeping. I just want those of you who are coming up to the surgery to be prepared. This is major surgery and there are no two ways about it. I'm not sure yet that I am glad I did this... Probably in a week I'll feel differently. I'll post again. -

Thanks for the input. I will be careful to hydrate and get some calories in. Airports are big places and I'll need energy to do all that walking. From what I have read on these post, I should be just fine. Here's hoping for no complications! -
