I am taking a multi-vitamin, but is there anything else we really should be supplementing right now? How about after the recovery stage when we are just doing our daily eating? I'm not big on swallowing pills, especially big ones, so I'm hoping we do not need a lot of vitamins. I can handle my one chewable a day. Just curious though. I've seen it mentioned a few times. THANKS!

other than shakes... do you have any tips to share for getting in enough protein during the day? (esp. when it's hard to eat a lot!)

Trouble Drinking After Eating?
Jordien replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
we're close in our surgery dates... yeah it's much easier to drink these days. but i agree, if I have a dense protein that really fills me up, i can't drink much after that, for a while. I try to get my water in early in the day, and I eat pretty lightly for breakfast/lunch. Today though, I had some roast beef for lunch, it was the new carved roast beef by the packaged deli meats... so it was thick and really filled me up, though I only had about an oz. and a half of it. So about half an hour later, I take some crystal light, and my stomach was feeling SO full like I had eaten an entire additional meal. I just figured it wasn't time yet to start filling up with liquids since I ate that hearty roast beef. Weird. Just trying to get to know what foods do what. I just think it's all a learning experience. -

Sooo....should I not be eating carbs?
Jordien replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist told me to only track protein. SHe looked in my journal and even told me I didn't have to track calories if I didn't want to. I am still doing it my way and tracking calories and protein. I am not tracking carbs right now, but it may be the answer to picking up the pace on my weight loss. -

6 months out and questions?
Jordien replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use gummies too. One A Day just came out with a gummie vitamins that I think are complete. Great job on your weight loss!! -
For me, the Syntax nectar lumped up like crazy and foamed and I just couldn't do it. These got me through the first two weeks after surgery. They are small enough that I was able to dilute it with water/ice/crystal light lemonade and get it down. NOW I can't tolerate them, in fact I have some I want to give away at my next support group. But during that first week especially, they saved me... https://www.homecarenutrition.com/HHL/nxcsc.nsf/ListProducts?openagent&ListMenuEntry=6E7F3EE5EE83D2F485257625004FB354&MenuEntry=6E7F3EE5EE83D2F485257625004FB354&SID=74BAECCFE5C0F6A3852577D7000D8C0F

Weird nerve pain helped by Spanx?
Jordien replied to Motherofskye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the exact thing, in fact if you look on the 2nd or 3rd page you might see my post... it's called "lower left pain." My doctor told me the same thing about the sutures deep in there used to stitch whatever it was they cut. He said they will dissolve by 6 to 8 weeks out. Thank goodness when they did! It was a nagging pain that just went on and on after everything else seemed to feel fine. And then one day, the pain was just gone. Voila, they dissolved I guess! Good luck with waiting it out. -
My surgeon has followed me closely so far, so I weigh in there at my appts. I also weigh at home once a week. I prefer to stay off of the scale for the most part. Helps me not obsess!

How many grams of protein per day?
Jordien replied to Amber07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's recommendation is 60grams. I get around 45 - 50 on most days. It's tough, but I always try to make protein the priority. -
Get the South Beach Diet book and follow the basic principals of that program. It is a fabulous and healthy way of life, and even if you do phase 1 for one week, you'll rid yourself of the carb cravings and feel really good. The SB plan pretty much works with the basic plan for the sleeve... healthy proteins, low fats/lean meats... healthy carbs, but you add them back in slowly and see which ones cause you cravings. Good luck!

Acid / Lump feeling ???
Jordien replied to bearwitme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same experience as you... it developed as soon as I went on the mushy/real food stage. It was AWFUL! I was going through tums and pepcid AC like crazy. At my next appt. my doc put me on prevacid. That is working definitely.... however they are huge, and I gag when I take them. ugh... I might ask to try a different PPI. But, maybe you need a different on, other than the one you're on? Good luck. -
I couldn't believe how I dropped 15 lbs in the first week or so. It has slowed down a bit, but at 7 weeks out today, I am down 33 lbs.

Advice for low-energy days?
Jordien replied to M2G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been there, and though it DOES get better.. I am still more tired than I used to be. My advice is: try to add a nap into your routine. Even if I close my eyes for 45 minutes in the afternoon, it helps. I usually don't do it now that I'm back at work, but on the weekends, I definitely say, "time for mommy's nap!" lol.... I go to bed earlier now too. I wondered if this would go away or continue forever??? I'm about 6/7 weeks I think out from surgery. Back at work, like I said, much better than how I felt 3 weeks post-op, but still tired. Good luck! -

How many surgery scars do you have?
Jordien replied to M2G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 5 from the lapband surgery and now 5 more from the sleeve. He put the new ones pretty close to the lapband ones. Weird! I have a scar where my drain was, but it doesn't seem too bad. I also have a huge long scar on my lower right stomach from an open appendectomy about 7 years ago. UGH! They seem to all be healing fine and starting to fade. I don't see myself as a bikini girl either, so I'm not worried! -

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
Jordien replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone!!! Sorry I was MIA!! I had a crazy week and was actually out of town for a few days, faced a few challenges (alcohol, eating out, hotel, etc...) I have not been on the scale for a while but am feeling pretty good. I am happy I made some good choices about eating and when to stop eating. A pair of jeans I packed were actually falling down and loose, so that felt good. I am happier staying off the scale, so I'm going to try to keep doing that. Trying to get my water in and really listening to my body tell me when I'm hungry instead of going to eat for boredom, sadness, happiness, whateverness!!! I will weigh in on Monday and check in. So happy for you all and just that we're still here posting, checking in and feeling good. GO US! :cheer2: -
I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow, so I am def. experimenting with new foods and able to handle things better now. I admit I have dipped into what the kids came home with, but I think I've done well with just picking one or two of the things I love the most, and the rest is just there. I physically just cannot eat A LOT, so even if I feel like I've slipped and eaten something not so healthy.. I still think I am better off than before. I KNOW I am. Good job everyone! All in moderation, yes!

There really is nothing that will help but TIME! I was just in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. Yes, focus on fluids so you do not get dehydrated. Do your best with proteins. Just rest and get through. In time you'll be able to start eating some normal things to get protein in. Just keep up with that water or crystal light or whatever it is you are drinking!!

I just asked my surgeon this on Monday night at our support group. I said when I can I have a small glass of wine? He said.. tonight! lol! I was exactly 5 weeks out from surgery on Monday. He warned me to be careful that it may affect me differently. I ended up not having it, but it's nice to know I can try it again. Even a half a glass of red would be nice one night. I'm so tired though... I honestly don't need any more sedatives in my body! haha!

At 3 weeks post-op, I was pretty much at the same place. It's amazing what a few more weeks will do for you. Typical lunches are turkey or ham and cheese.. I get the hillshire farms deli selects or oscar meyer has a version of them too. Or egg salad, chicken salad or tuna salad, usually with a few triscuits. Those lunches are easy for me and quick, and I don't like to get too daring when I'm at work (with eating.) It's getting a little easier to get my Water in too. At 3 weeks out, again... I still could only sip. I can take bigger sips now and get my water in.. try for 64 oz. a day put usually manage about 50 oz.

can anyone tell me the best way to utilize unflavored protien powder?
Jordien replied to vicki s's topic in Food and Nutrition
I use the coffemate sugar free french vanilla creamer. It's stored in the fridge, and it cools my coffee down enough to make the protein powder dissolve easily. I swear I do not taste it or smell it. Now if I add a little too much, like if I did a whole scoop, I think i would. But I manage to sneak in 1/2 scoop, and it works.
