    protein drinks

Hi! I had the vertical sleeve surgery on July 12th. I'm having a realy hard time getting enough protein. Also, enough liquids in general. My diet is soft foods, pureed or fork tender. I've pushed myself about a week ahead of my food schedule because of the protein thing. I'm having a problem with a metalic taste in my mouth and feeling lite headed and dizzy. Any suggestions for protein drinks other than Ispoure, which makes the metalic taste worse and Premier nutrion drink, which taste like chalk????
  2. Hi! I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy on July 12th. I went thru the Assoc. of Southbay Surgeons in Torrance, CA. Dr. Edward Mun performed my surgery. I began my journey with them on November 19th. At the time I weighed 270 pounds with a BMI of 45. As part of my pre-op requirements, I had to loose 10% of my body weight (27 pounds), attend support groups, educational classes, psychological evaluation and other medical workups. After meeting these requirements in March, I was given a surgery date of May 10th. I chickend out, but rescheduled my surgery of July 12th. I was going to try and hold out for as long as I could with the insurance approval. I figured, I had come this far on my own I could continue with what I was doing. I was wrong. I gained 6 pounds back. I wish I would have stuck to my guns and kept at it. But, I went ahead and had the surgery. I liked the Isopure drinks before surgery. I hate them to this day!!! The heprin shots were probably the worst part - they burn like hell - other than the gas. It is best that you get up and start walking as soon as you can. This is the best way to start moving the gas out of your body. I was required to get up 3 times a day and walk around the unit. I was in the hospital for 2 days and then released home. Surgery was on a Monday - released home Wednesday. After 2 days home, on Friday, I was dying for real food. I tried some mustard potato salad. I meausre out a 1/4 cup. Took 30 minutes to eat it. Went down o.k. Later that night I tried mac and cheese. I didn't measure it out and ate too much. I had the worst chest pain and could feel it sitting in the back of my throat. I don't like to throw up - so it was really rough for me wanting to and not doing so. Needless to say I didn't sleep well that night. I had my follow up appt. on July 22nd. I lost basically a pound a day since surgery. 9 pounds. Down a total of 36 pounds since Nov. 19th. I will have my 1 month appt. on Aug 26th. It is now 3 weeks since surgery. I'm having a problem with having a light head and dizziness. Along with a crappy metalic taste in my mouth. I know that I'm not getting enough liquid - which I think contributes to the dizziness. I am now eating soft foods - cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, hard boiled or scrambled eggs. This is my diet for 2 more weeks then can introduce lunch meats and steamed veggies. I'm looking forward to when I can have meat again. Really good Japanese restuarant that I'm looking forward to going back too.
