    New and Quite Shocked!

Becca, your story sounds very much like mine. I am 4 days post op vsg and so relieved to have that "crapband" gone. It was a nightmare. So happy not to ever have to have another fluoro/adjustment. Welcome; I am pretty new myself and it is so helpful to have this board for answers.
  2. Hi Aplus, I literally just said the same things on another board. I am also 9/14 also; I understand completely where you are coming from. We can do this! And Jane is right, the stats are with us!

    September sleevers wanted!

I am 9/14 and petrified. I know logically that this is the right thing for me for all the reasons we are all aware of, but every now and then it hits me like a ton of bricks that I am willingly, electively and totally consciously going to LET HIM CUT MOST OF MY STOMACH OUT! It sounds so drastic, Why oh why has it come to this? Why can't I just get a grip? (rhetorical questions).

    A little about me

Hi Kris, sounds like you are doing awesome; great to hear and very encouraging. I have my preop tomorrow and vsg 9/14. Thx for the post.

    September sleevers wanted!

I hear you Lynn; I have preops on Monday 8/30...then surgery 9/14....eeeek.
  6. I had decided not to tell anyone, except my husband of course, and I haven't told anyone at work yet (my surgery is 9/14). I caved though and told my sister. That was a mistake, b/c she was horrified at the thought and is trying to talk me out of it. I have had my band for 2 1/2 years, lost wt, but problems galore and now regaining. She has had her band for 2 years and lost some in the beginiing, but is regaining it rapidly....Now wish I had just kept it too myself..

    Just a couple of questions

FYI, there is a low carb slimfast that has 20g protein and 2 net carbs. Its actually higher in protein than their hi protein one; go figure. Maybe that is what she had in mind?? Just a thought.

    Federal BCBS

Centennial actually. I went to school at Vanberbilt though.

    Federal BCBS

I have federal bcbs and I have been approved for a band to sleve revision 9/14 in Nashville. No problem to get approved and a date w/in a week.

Hey Broccgirl, I am a fellow Tennessean. Where are you having your surgery? I am going to Centennial in Nashville and my date is 9/14.

    Healthcare

Agree that if you are fortunate enough to have plenty of money or good insurance, you can get anything you want/need in the US. Unfortunately, there are many many people that don't fit in that category.
  12. Thanks, it does help just to vent and to have someone listen and respond. I have really tried to get a grip for the past week and hopefully I can maintain that. My pre op is 8/30. Thx again.
  13. :crying:Hi, Awesome site. So here is my story. I was banded 12/3/07 and had nothing but problems. I lost the wt alright, and really fast, but then had a dilitation and had to be unfilled for 3 months. And its been that way on and off ever since. Any fill was too much, caused sliming, vomiting and general misery. Finally I had enough and asked for revision to the sleeve. It was approved right away ( and I am scheduled for 9/14). I was a "lite weight" with a bmi of 35 at the get go. Lost about 70 pounds, but with no fill most of the time since, about 25-30 lbs has creeped back up. I won't lie, I have been out of control for a while despite saying to myself that I would never ever let that happen again. I was horrified to go from sz 8 to 10 to 12 and now 14 (I had been a 22 at my highest wt). Soooo I have a couple of basic fears; first that I will lose too much wt (176 now) and second that I won't be able to get myself under control. Any help, advice, admonishments, tips will all be appreciated. Thx.
  14. MiMi, guess its all done now and I pray that things went well for you. Thanks for posting, I have been having those same thoughts myself and it helped me tremendously to read the responses. Congrats on beginning your journey.

    Healthcare

I couldn't agree with you more DownInSocal. I have been blessed in many ways and having decent, though expensive, health insurance an important one. I was blessed to be born in a good (though not rich) family with opportunities that some can only dream of. And I realize that its a very difficult situation with those that can't or won't work, but what about the innocent babies/kids that do not have any control over their situations? And folks that work hard every day to put food on their tables but cannot possibly afford healthcare. You are right, we are paying now for medicaid, ER visits etc, etc. Makes so much more sense to me to make it available to all. And you might check the World Health Organization rankings of the world's healthcare systems. USA is 37th (Canada is 30th, and all the other Western Countries beat us out too). Most expensive doesn't equal the best.

    September sleevers wanted!

I am soooo nervous. I am converting from lapband to sleeve 9/14. I lost weight on the lapband, but now gaining back. The band was ALWAYS too tight or no restriction. I have been filled and unfilled infinitum. BMI was 35 in the beginning with comorbidities of post polio syndrome and h/o breast cancer with severe GERD (no diabetes, heart or pulmonary prbms). I am still not obese again, but terrified that is where I am headed. I never want to be fat again. But still have that haunting feeling I should be able to do this w/o resorting to more surgery. Taking advice I saw on another thread just to continue on as if everything is a go with the thought I can back out later. I am so ambivalent; hope I can make the right decision when it gets down to the wire. (I am currently unfilled; dilation/slips x2).

    September sleevers wanted!

Hi. New here also. Getting sleeved 9/14; revision from band. Scared too. Took less than a week to get approved and scheduled. I wasn't expecting that! The thought of having most of a perfectly normal (?) organ removed is a little daunting.....
