2 months until surgery, struggling with pre-op diet
StaySea replied to tiffnie's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I didn't have an official pre-op diet but I put myself on a self-made version of one. My strategy was to just cut out one bad thing a week. To ween myself off these bad habits. And then just forced myself to stick to it knowing post op there would be no choice. So one week I would say good bye to fast food. The next ice cream/sweets. Etc.... -

Sleeping Patterns Post-Op
StaySea replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleep has gotten better post op. I used to get up to go to the bathroom once or twice during the night. Every night. Since surgery I haven't gotten up in the night once. I can sleep in a lot longer but I don't think I'm sleeping super hard. I still wake up the minute before my alarm goes off. -
Barely One Month Ago...
StaySea replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on your progress so far!!! I will be a month out this week and I walked into one of my classrooms the other day and my students (in 3rd grade) had finally noticed I had lost some weight (about 25 lbs since surgery) and they were like "oh teacher you are so skinny you used to be this *held out their little hands really far apart* now you are this *held their hands really close together*" It was so cute. I told them I will keep getting smaller and they were shocked. And I am nowhere near skinny...not by a long shot. Thanks for the confidence boost anyway 3rd graders! HAHA! -
I experienced something similar a little over a year ago. I was moving to Taiwan so ending my contract a few months early....well really not I was paying for the last month or 2 I wasn't going to be there b/c I had the contract. But trying to cancel so they didn't keep charging me once my contract expired and I was on other side of the planet was a pain in the ass! I had to call several different people, show proof that I was moving overseas, they even wanted a utility bill from Taiwan (to which I said how would have that I haven't moved there yet....???). It was an utter joke trying to cancel my membership when I was willing to pay for the rest of the contract I just didn't want to renew. ARGH! I liked the gym but the paperwork side of it is ridiculous! Makes me nervous of joining other gyms in fear of this paperwork run around and hidden fees and crap.

Hey TehErika, I had my surgery I think the day after you and I am kind of feeling the same way. I don't think I'm grazing but it takes me a long to eat to make sure I actually get in the little bit of food on my plate. I don't think I'm over eating. I don't see how I possibly can be. I end up worried I'm eating to little and not giving my body enough gas to go- so I make sure to eat my whole "meal" even if it takes me a while. I don't want to starve my body and have it hold onto everything. Its so frustrating that every surgeon has their own methods and everybody has their own ideas of what to do....eat for 20 then toss the rest, eat what you can no matter how long, etc... I wish there was an international rule book of VSG surgery.

"Don't lose too much weight"
StaySea replied to Lisalu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Speaking of people meaning well in what they say. I have a student that I tutor and when I went to their house last week the Mom told me you can really tell I'm loosing weight (which made me feel good) that my face looked thinner (yay in my book)...then she said she liked my face better before (she thinks round faces are cute). LoL. -
As others have said tuna has become a big part of my diet. It's quick and easy to prepare and packed with protein. Once I was onto soft foods and allowed to eat tuna was when I was finally able to meet my protein goal for the day. I mix it with Greek yogurt instead of mayo (there is no low/no fat mayo in Taiwan that I can find LOL).

Looking great! What a difference 20 lbs can make in a persons mood! I'm down about 20-ish lbs 3 weeks out and starting to feel like your after pic a bit more each day! Haha! Keep up the great work!

This is EXACTLY how I felt and what I was thinking last night! Feeling scared I spent more money then I have to my name on a surgery to loose 20lbs. I am struggling to get in enough Protein each day. Yesterday I made it to 50g and that was the most I have gotten in yet. I am 2 weeks post op. I can only drink so many Protein shakes a day and my food options are still rather limited. ARGH!

I got 2 levels of itching going on over here. Both incision sites itch but I also discovered I seem to have some skin allergy to the medical tape the hospital used to AROUND the incision sites is itchy with a slight rash from the tape. They even switched me to the kind of tape for people allergic to the other kind but then before I left they put these water proof band aids over them so I could shower and those have caused a little itchy rash where the adhesive was stuck to me. ARGH! Haha. They game me this ointment for the scars tho when I put it on it stings a bit....not right away but a little later on. Weird. Is that normal? Haha!

I'm 10 days out as well and into the thick liquid, etc... phase. I was excited to add yogurt and milk to my mix but the last 2 days my stomach gets really upset. I don't know if it's b/c I'm adding food OR because my body currently doesn't like the dairy products. It liked them just fine before and it would make no sense for it to like it now. It better start liking them soon. I do not want to loose yogurt and have to start drinking soy milk. I can't wait to get to real food though this also scares me! However I welcome feeling full...this liquid/mushy phase I honestly can't tell if I'm really full or not. Maybe that sounds stupid but my head isn't getting a message from my stomach. I stop eating so I don't throw up but I still feel a little hungry.

Naps, and the lack thereof
StaySea replied to Go Kart Mozart's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Can't wait till I'm all healed up and am out the "right of operation" phase and go without naps. I never really napped before but right now being 5 days post op I slept till Noon today and feel like I could nap right now. Want...energy....now. Haha. Congrats on your renewed energy GoKart!! -
Hello recent sleevers! My surgery was Tuesday. I came home from the hospital on Friday. I have been feeling kind of restless. I am tired of lounging around watching TV. I suck at relaxing I think. I want to go out and do things but I know I need to rest and I will get really tired. We might go out to the movies tonight. I just want to get out of the house. I can't wait till I sleep on my stomach again. I am so not a back sleeper. Last night I tried sleeping on my side and tucked my blanket or a throw pillow under my tummy to kind of cushion it. That was better then the previous 3 nights I spent sleeping on my back. Each day I feel a little better. Will be happy when I'm off clear liquid and onto regular liquid and can get some more variety. Tiring quickly of water, tea, etc.... I have 2 inscion sites and the one in my belly button is still tender but my 2nd one (the smaller) is feeling better already.

I'm a teacher and I'm only taking a week off of work. My surgeon said that was more then enough time to be back at work. -

StaySea replied to teh ericka's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Glad to hear your surgery went well and your doing well also!! And I totally know how you feel about the ice/water. They told me today I could have a sippy cup of Water at noon and I was like the countdown is on!!!! Best of the luck on the rest of your recovery!! -
So I'm about to leave for the hospital. I check in this AM and do pre-op tests all day and a sleep apnea test tonight then surgery tomorrow afternoon! I wasn't nervous at all really up till last night then it started to slowly creep up on me. Why are they doing a sleep apnea test the night before?! How am I supposed to sleep with these nerves running thru and wires stuck to my head? Haha!:lol0: Well here goes nothing...off I go! See you all on the losers bench real soon!:thumbup1:

Same with me actually. I have been under anesthesia 2-3 other times and I have never woken up with the NG tube still in- but I guess here in Taiwan they want to make sure you can fully breathe on your own and are free of anesthesia before they de-tube you (that's what I was told). I think I only had it in for about 30 mins (from what my boyfriend told me...as I was rather out of it LOL). I felt lucky as they told me the day before with all my pre-op testing it could be in for several hours up to thru the whole night. Bu I will say it was the most unpleasant part of this whole experience thus far. Today I got to start drinking Water in SMALL sips!!! And tomorrow and I get to have some ORANGE flavor formula drink. Prob gross but the thought of flavor has me so excited! Getting broths and moving up to Soups next week sounds so exciting right now. Haha. I'm so happy and it's done and Im recovering and on my way to a smaller and healthier me!!! This is going to rock!!
