I am a 60 year old retired RN. I was thin up into my late 30's and everything from there was up. I had gained weight for all three of my pgs., our last son weighing in at 11# 12 ozs. I was tested all three times for gestational diabetes and was not diagnosed with it.
I was finally diagnosed with Type II about 10 yrs. ago, along with hypertension and high choesterol. Our family hx included all of these. Currently on meds for all of these conditions. Water aerobics has been a positive factor in my exercising, along with the semi-recumb. bike. I try and exercise about 3 times a week, for 40-60 minutes. You name the diet, I've tried it probably at least once or more. I would lose and then gain back what I lost and then some.
My weight is hard on my knees and back. I hate not being able to shop with my friends when they shop the stores with the smaller sizes. I was ready for a drastic change. My sister had weight loss with the sleeve a few years ago, and looks and feels much better. I started doing alot of research on my options. I contacted our insurance company after discussing it with my doctor. I tried to fulfill all of their requirements, but had no luck at losing 10% of my excess weight. They refused me three times on that regard plus my A1C was good and my heart wasn't bad. Try explaining that the reason they were good, was that I did what my doctor told me to do and took my meds religiously. Finally, we were able to change insurance companies and I resubmitted my information
along with my diet history. Thank God, they approved me for the sleeve. I am scheduled for March 27th, of this yr. I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that I'm a little anxious about it, but I am sooo ready for the change in my life and a healthier future with my wonderful family. I have a very supportive family and group of friends and it really helps.
I hope good things for all of you and hope that we all get to the loser's bench.
