  1. 1 years has passed since you registered at VerticalSleeveTalk! Happy 1st Anniversary metvan!

  2. I had this problem about two weeks post op. My doc kept me on my blood pressure meds and those, in addition to not being able to get all my liquids in caused severe dehydration and extremely low BP. When I went in to see the doc, the lowest BP sitting down was 80/45. Every time I stood up, my vision would go black, I'd get dizzy and I think just by sheer force of WILL (knowing someone would have to haul my arse off the floor if I passed out) I managed to keep from passing out. They put me in the hospital to rehydrate me, took me off my BP meds and I've not had a problem since.
  3. What is wrong with it? I made my own turkey chili and honestly, once I uploaded the recipe to sparkpeople, it worked out to be 190 calories, 15 carbs (mostly from the beans), 7g fat, and 17g protein for a small bowl (around 4-6 oz) and that was WITH a sprinkling of low fat shredded cheddar and a dollop of light sour cream! Aint nothing wrong with those numbers I don't think.

    racing heartbeat

I saw my PA today and told her I was still taking potassium at the doctor's request. She asked me how much and I couldn't tell her so I asked her what I should watch for if I'm getting too much potassium. She mentioned the rapid heartbeat, tingling, etc. I'd insist on some labwork at the very least to make sure it isn't something more serious or at the least, something that could be remedied fairly easily. Good luck...
  5. I had my sleeve done 6/29 and felt great the first week. Got the dr to say I could go back to work (I work from home) about 10 days post op and THEN all hell broke loose with me. I was on some blood pressure meds that had a diuretic and I developed nausea and diarrhea anytime I drank too much (not overfilling my stomach mind you...I was drinking slowly, but after a certain amount of time I would start heaving). I got super dehydrated and had to go back on medical leave after one day back at work. I'm still off but trying to get the ok to go back this week. Like everyone has said, it really depends on how you do, but I would plan on at least 2 weeks to be safe. Once you start being able to eat mushies, I think you will have more energy and feel better and more apt to handle going back to work. You'd be surprised how much just sitting around can take out of you when you aren't fueling your body all that well. Best of luck to you

help has this happened to anyone?!

Hi there, I started having the same problem at about 2 weeks out. I spent about 4 days in the hospital then came home feeling great. Spent several days feeling so good, I got an ok from my dr to go back to work (I work from home so it wasn't that big a deal). My second day of work (which was a few days shy of 2 weeks post op) I started with the dry heaves which was often paired with simultaneous explosive diarrhea (lovely hmm?) I noticed that drinking brought it on and really started struggling with how to get fluids down without making myself sick. No matter how slowly I drank, at some point, I would start feeling nauseas and then I'd be overwhelmed by the simultaneous diarrhea and heaves. Ultimately, I ended up back in the hospital severely dehydrated and seriously scary low blood pressure (75/45)...I couldn't stand without almost passing out. They put me in the hospital and gave me fluids. I think I had about 4 bags before I peed for the first time. The doctor's still weren't sure what was causing the nausea and vomiting, but they stopped ALL my blood pressure meds and told me to take it easy. I found when I got home that mushie foods were fine on my stomach and almost seemed to calm it down, but liquids still upset it so I asked the doctor for Zofran (I was taking phenergan, but it wasn't helping at all). I started taking the zofran and haven't had a problem since. The last few days, I've tried to take less zofran and have had a recurrence of the nausea and diarrhea so it must be helping. Talk to your doc about putting you on an anti-nausea med if you aren't already on one and see if that helps. One last side note...I started taking benefiber a few days after getting home. I was adding 2 tblsp to my drinks three times a day. Coincidentally, that is also when my symptoms started getting worse. When they put me back in the hospital, I didn't get it there and I didn't start back up when I got home. On saturday, I decided to add it to the gatoraid I was drinking and within 30 minutes, I was nauseas. I never had heaves, but I did have the same weird diarrhea. I only had about 4 oz. of the gatoraid with benefiber so I stopped drinking it and everything resolved and for the most part...I've been ok. Could be a coincidence, but for now, I'm laying off the benefiber :S
  7. LOL, I'm not sayin' I know exactly what that would taste like, but I'm just imagining that it can't be too far from the "passionfruit flavored" Bariatric Advantage Iron lol.
  8. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that these make ill. Have you tried the passionfruit flavored iron? I've re-dubbed them "sweaty ball sac flavor." I know that is crude and disgusting, but so are those vitamins! Hope you find a taker for your vitamins
  9. I had the same problem. If you are still taking any pain meds, this could be slowing your system down as well. I started mixing benefiber into my drinks three times a day. The first BM after surgery, I had to use a suppository :frown1:
  10. I was having the same problem. Phenergan was no help so dr put me on zofran. I would try the acid reducer too if you aren't already on one. I couldn't stomach liquid on my stomach for some reason....the more I drank (no matter how slowly) the more sick I felt. I ended up in the hospital last week for severe dehydration and low bp. Talk to your doc. I know how horrible it is to feel perpetually nauseas! No fun!

    How do you use isopure?

I agree about the isopure. The smell is what gets me and the filmy stuff floating in it after you've sipped on it awhile *shivers*
  12. sorry, it was june 28th. I asked the doctor about it before they discharged me from the hospital and he said I could try as long as I went easy. Trust me..I'm not eating much at all and so far, haven't had any problems with the food. Overall, today went better. I tried some warm tea this morning and then made a gatorade slushi. Still not really getting enough fluids in, but hoping to improve on that.
  13. Thanks guys. I think I may try the gatoraid or poweraid today. Just to clear things up about the ginger ale...it was diet and we shook the hell out of it and then let it sit until it got flat before I drank it so there was no carbonation. I was hoping the ginger would help settle my stomach. The funny thing is...getting real food on my stomach seems to help. Overfillijng with liquids is what seems to trigger the whole diarrhea and dry heave cycle I'll let you guys know how I do with the power ade.
  14. Hey guys, I can't post long because I'm feeling like absolute crap atm. Starting about a week ago, I started having bouts with nausea, dry heaves and diarrhea. About the only thing I can relate it to is trying to drink "too much." Trust me, i have tried every possible way to get my liquids in slowly but consistently (sip, sip sipping), but it doesn't seem to matter. I had to go in the hospital Wed because I was so dehydrated and my blood pressure was ridiculously low. While I was in the hospital, I didn't have as much nausea, vomiting (which are more like dry heaves as nothing really comes up), or diarrhea, but because I was hooked up to the IV, I wasn't trying to get the liquids down by mouth either. I've been home today and tried a few bites of egg for Breakfast and did fine (these are my first mushies btw). Getting food on my stomach actually seemed to help a bit. I took a nap and then woke up and had a spoonful of refried Beans...again no problem. about an hour later I started to try to sip on some ginger ale, got a few oz down over an hour, then had to take a pill....within a few minutes I was in the bathroom dry heaving and having diarrhea. I laid down again, slept a few hours and since waking up, I just feel horrible.....nauseas, don't want to eat or drink anything. I've been sipping on some Water and i can feel myself getting worse with each sip. How in the world am I going to stay hydrated if I can't get the fluids in??? I just called my doctor and he is going to call in some zofran because I'm currently taking promethazine and that is obviously not helping. I'm sure this will pass eventually (please god I hope it does), but what the heck do I do now? I don't want to go back to the hospital!
