  1. According to Kaiser, I could either gain more weight or just sit around and wait until more comorbidities developed. I didn't like either option so I self paid at UCSD in San Diego. I am so happy and feel amazing. I looked at the loan as a new car, only this vehicle is going to last me for the rest of my life!
  2. Don't worry, your energy will come back. And as those pounds melt away you will be so jazzed you'll be soaring!
  3. Hi there, Welcome! 4 spoons of broth sounds about right. Don't worry, it will get better! Your new little tummy is very swollen and as the swelling subsides, the amount you can get in will increase. It is very slow in the beginning but luckily you will not be feeling much hunger, if any. In fact, you will probably have to force yourself to drink in the beginning. I found a child's sippy cup helped me control the flow of Fluid in those first few weeks and popsicles helped me get in extra ounces. Best of luck to you and you will find so much help and encouragement here.

    NSV shout outs

I was able to move my daughter into her dorm using the stairs since the elevators were backed up (5th floor) and I did not have to stop on the way up. I can actually see my shin bones and calf muscles again. My back doesn't hurt every day, in fact it doesn't hurt most days. Sometimes when I pass a mirror I don't recognize the body as mine, because I still feel obese inside and it is a really pleasant surprise.

    3 Month Progress

Christie, your photos are amazing (I second Eureka-C as far as favorite shots). You are just beautiful. Keep blogging and posting please you're such a ray of sunshine and inspiration.
  6. Prayers for a flawless surgery and a speedy recovery....
  7. That is great news! Isn't it exciting to go see a doctor and get great news for a change? My blood pressure is way normal now and my resting pulse was that of an athlete. My back pain has all but disappeared now, no more pain pills! I wonder if the weight loss has an effect on women's estrogen as well? I noticed an increase in my libido but just assumed it was because I felt more confident in my body (not to mention the sheer logistics haha). I think I will investigate....Maybe it will keep the hotflashes away! Keep up the amazing work!
  8. I sent you another message and it doesn't appear in our conversation here. If you didn't get it I apologize, I don't know what happened. It addressed your concerns about it getting better, and yes it does get much better (but it's been a week now so you probably know that). Anyway I hope you got my message otherwise you must have been thinking I was so rude. I hope we can meet at tommorow's support group. :)

  9. I called and they said they would welcome me at tommorow nights session. If you are there, I would love to chat and see how you are doing.

  10. Thanks Kim, you are going to do great, your enthusiasm is so contagious. I remember the feeling I had when I got my date, it was so wonderful. I was jumping up and down squeeling on the inside and the outside! I think from the moment we make the decision to have the surgery there is no going back. You will only go forward and pretty soon we will all be looking at your after pictures...... You have found such a wonderful community of support here. Everyone here is so amazingly positive and helpful. Best wishes and keep me up to date!

    Omg!!!!

OMG is right! That is sooo wonderful, I am so happy for you! When you do tell them, bring all the information you can so they can see why you are choosing this particular bariatric surgery. They have seen you struggle for years most likely. I found that in my 40's was when I started really seeing the scary effects of my obesity. I am 46 now and had my surgery in May. My thinking was that yes, with any surgery there are potential risks, but if I don't have the surgery, there are definite risks and I don't want them. I understand, it was hard to tell my family, but they were so supportive and I am sure yours will be as well. You will be in my prayers!

    I have a date, again

That is great news, Congratulations! You are almost there and just think, this year you will actually lose weight over the holidays! Big hug!
  14. Welcome Kim and Congratulations on your decision! I had my surgery in May and have never looked back. You will find anything and everything you need on this board, advise, encouragement, high fives and hugs. Looking forward to hearing about your success!
  15. You will do great! I think the biggest reason we see so many success stories on here is that like you, the people on here are armed with knowledge and support. The commitment began before the surgery.

Did they give you the pre-op diet yet? I got mine two weeks prior to the actual surgery date. The pre-op diet was the hardest for me. It was like I desperately wanted to eat everything since I knew it was going to be a couple of months before I could again. You can do this Pamela, I promise you!

Everyone probably thinks I am an Edy's salesperson ( I swear I'm not :)), but the day you get home from the hospital I would advise you to get some Edy's no sugar added fruit bars. They are with the popsicles. After surgery you will find it hard to get in fluids because you new little tummy will be swollen and popsicles go down slow and easy. These taste great and are low in sugar and carb content, 25 calories each. Have at least two boxes stocked!

  16. A true heartfelt thank you! You are all my inspirations every day. I start every morning here at this site, reading about everyone's struggles and triumphs. It puts me in the right frame of mind that I can feel good about whatever comes up. Whether it is food choices, missing my "friend" and choosing a new way to cope and remembering how far I have come from those hard weeks in the beginning. Thank you all for being there with me on this journey!
  17. Hi Pam,

I am replying to your comment on my 3 1/2 month after picture where you asked how much I had lost. I have lost 70 pounds total, 62 since my surgery which was on May 4. It has made such a great difference in my life. The first two months the weight just fell off. I have slowed a bit since the beginning of the third month , it seems like about 3 lbs a week now, 4 if I really exercise. But I think that is probably normal since you can eat a little more. Keep me posted on your surgery. Isn't this site amazing? Reading everyone's stories gave me the courage to go forward with my sleeve and I have never looked back. Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments! I could not have done it without everyone on this site, but I am sure you all know that from being on here. I get on here everyday and always find something that helps me stay focused and encouraged, and today it was all you wonderful folks...Big hug!
  19. Thanks Doug! That is something I never thought I would hear again
  20. That is so exciting! Look forward to hearing your updates! Welcome to the best decision of your life!

    one week post-op

Wow I can't believe you were shopping on day 3! No wonder you were wiped out on day 4! You are so brave to have gone through with your surgery after your husband's experience, you are gonna do just great. 14 pounds down already! Keep up the good work!

  24. I don't know why but I just saw your message today. I am so sorry for the delayed reply. Don't worry it does get better. I was in ALOT more pain than I expected based on some of the posts I had read on here. I was surprised at how much I hurt. My stomach was spasming alot, but I have read with this surgery the part of the stomach they leave is more muscle (which is bad now, but great later as it will hold it's shape and not stretch as easily). Just try and think about that and maybe it can help.

    I had my surgery on May 4, 2010. In 3 1/2 months I have lost 70 lbs

Your feelings of regret and freak outs will pass. Don't be surprised if you cry and mourn the food loss, particularly regarding food and socializing This will pass as well, particularly as you buy new pants! I will let you know what summa says. Take care.

  25. I had a transvaginal sleeve gastrectomy (only 2 scars now, plus less pain and risk of infraction with it) on 5/4/2010. I am down 70 pounds (8 was prep). Amazing staff. Waiting room time is excessive, I'm not sure why. They do a lot of surgeries and are in clinic at the hospital I think. But, it was the best thing I ever did. Dr. Horgan is so sweet and I heard from several sources that UCSD really did a lot to bring him there. I am happy to share any info you would like.
