  1. Huh. I have no restrictions except liquids for 2 weeks post-op. After that I am to begin eating regular food. In one of the handouts we were amused to read about approved activities for the day after surgery. They included light yardwork, painting a room, cleaning house. In other words, basically what I might have done before the surgery I should be able to do after! It is amazing to read about how different each person's experience is. My doc said just use common sense. I have horses but will not handle the fractious one much for another week. That and I probably shouldn't pull big pallets of freight by myself at work for another week or so. Other than that, the world is my oyster, lol.

    How is the swelling post-op?

I didn't have much swelling. Noticed it on the day after surgery the most as that day I chose to stick tight and not do much, but the day following that we were out being tourists all day and I did not really notice that my clothes fit any worse, so I'd say the swelling was going down. We did a lot of walking which probably helped somewhat...but if you have elastic waist band bottoms and a flowy, loose top, you will probably appreciate wearing them on your ride home. :cool0: Good luck!

    July 2010's NEW losers!

I'm so glad for this thread as it is nice to discuss these little things we are experiencing. I was worried about being able to consume so much so fast too (got sleeved on the 16th)...but it seems to be a common thread with many of us so it must be somewhat normal, lol. Going back to work in 3 days. Sure hope this burping and throat gurgling subsides. Don't know that my customers and employees will appreciate that very much. Other than that I feel fantastic! :laugh0::thumbup::thumbup:

    Who's sleeving in July?

How's everyone doing? I'm feeling finer than frog hair. Just wish I had done this 10 or 20 years ago! Seriously, though, any tips on the burps and throat gurgles? They are annoying. Going to try GasX strips to see if that helps.

    3 mos 85lbs

Inspiring. My goal is 75 lbs in 3 months. Maybe I should up the ante...

    Worried...Worried...???

Congrats to being one week closer! :laugh0:

    Hello, my name is possumtrot

Thanks Mini. Still feeling great but the burpiing is a little annoying. Feel just like a baby, lol with my baby stomach and burping. Going to try GasX strips to see if that will stop that and the throat gurgling. Other than that, I have had NO pain since the day of surgery. Still trying to figure out when I'm full, and I am concerned that I can drink a lot more than the 2oz others here talk about, especially since I'm only a week out from surgery. On the other hand I am getting in my Protein and Water allotments with no problems. Right now just doing walking for exercise but I'm really considering getting a personal trainer and do this thing right. And this country mouse is glad to be back out of the big city...loved the Mohave though! Took around 1500 pictures. Can you tell I don't get out much? lol :laugh0:

Scared and I need some advice

Agreed that it is normal and healthy to question having a drastic, unreversable procedure done. But...as someone who was sleeved last Friday (one week ago) I can tell you that I don't regret it for a second. (((hugs)))
  11. This is my fifth day being sleeved. Like someone upthread said, I only wish this had been available and I knew of it decades ago. I would do it again in a heartbeat! The only rough spell I have had is the day of surgery...it was not fun...but the rest has been super!

    Hello, my name is possumtrot

O.M.Goodness, having the sleeve is one of the best decisions I have made, ever! I lost 10 lbs in the first 3 days post-op. I'm not going to weigh more than weekly, but a certain pair of pre-op tight jeans are loose enough to pull down without unbuttoning them now. JOY!

    Hiccups when full

So the mystery of hiccups is solved! I wondered about that as I have never been much of a "hiccupper", lol.

    Who's sleeving in July?

Know what you mean about it not being a vacation...but we're squeezing in a little mini-vaca the day before and then on the 5th day after surgery we have plans. Hopefully the trip post-op will be comfortable. fingers crossed

    Questions

Ours will be same day too. I'm a self-pay travelling patient. Are you having to wait a long time?

    July Surgeries

Today is the first leg of my journey...driving a couple of hundred miles to my mother's house. We'll leave there early tomorrow to fly to Vegas. Going early because we'll be doing a tour of the Grand Canyon early Thurs, then Thurs afternoon I have my preop appt. with surgery Friday.

    Dr. Aceves

If you are unsure at all, you should wait and have it done with a doctor you trust implicitly. It's a tough decision, although I have heard good things from the doctors you mentioned before.

    Today is the day!!

So happy for you! Hope you are feeling as well as possible. Congrats...you're on the losers bench now!

    Hello, my name is possumtrot

Just one more 6am meeting tomorrow then I'm off work for a bit. The smoking cessation is working and I haven't killed anyone yet (yay). Fact is, I'm not even grumpy like when I usually quit but my brain would like me to fall back into old habits. It's a taste (so to speak) of what learning to eat after surgery. Am very excited.

    did your family doctor approve?

Mine surprised the heck out of me because I had expected to have to make my case. I told him that I had scheduled the sleeve and thought I'd have to debate and defend my position. Surprisingly he told me it sounded like I had done my homework and he would do whatever needed to help me. It was wonderful. He knew what the sleeve was and told me to go for it.

    My Journey (Finally)

Thank you so much for your candor. I'm 5 days away from surgery and appreciate everything you've written. I've had general anesthesia before and haven't had problems, but my mother had it earlier this year and had all sorts of issues too...it can be very nasty for some folks! Glad to hear you're doing so much better now. How does it feel to be on the loser's bench?
  22. My mom had colon surgery earlier this year and had significant swelling that lasted quite a long time, but she was not active either. I'm looking at my wardrobe and wondering how much swelling I should allow for with the clothes I will be wearing those first few days post-op. Was your swelling from surgery very much and how long did it last?
  23. My vote is good for John Goodman, Star Jones, and whoever else has had WLS. It is a personal choice and in my mind is not cheating. Like someone else pointed out, unless one has battled weight for years the way anyone I've ever know to have WLS has, they will never understand our compunction to have this serious elective surgery. It is not Cheating. It is a grasp at better health and lifestyle for most.

    Who's sleeving in July?

Sleeve Sister! Here's to the 16th of July (and every other day) being the beginning of our new adventure! Cancun sounds lovely. DH insisted I stay in the US (I think he was hoping I would quit with the surgery talk) so I'm going to Vegas. Really excited that I will finally get to see the Grand Canyon while we're there. :001_unsure: So this trip will mark two things off the list: Getting going on solving my weight issues for good and seeing the GC. Life is good. Now that I'm past the first couple of days I'm even good on the pre-op diet. Of course, no one told me that Protein shakes would make me have to take pepto bismol in order to stay at work all day, lol. My body has finally adjusted to them and things are much better than those initial days. :scared0:
