Denial- any ideas on how to win approval
MommyTawnie replied to honeyrubybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did you have a sleep study done? if not get one asap.. from what I hear everyone has some form of sleep apnea "co-morbidity" a friend of mine was denied the first time around for the same reason "to low of a bmi" 2nd time she had a sleep study and was found to have sleep apnea. She was approved within 2 weeks of her appeal. Best of Luck!! -
Yesterday I had this real weird feeling in my stomach and chest. It was like I was overfull and needed to get sick. I knew I hadn't eaten very much so I didn't put to much thought into it, and went on my way.. About an hour later I start gaging and this foam like stuff comes up. I layed on the couch with a wet washcloth over my face, and a few minutes later felt 100%. Today the same thing happened to me. I started feeling that full signal, and boom just like yesterday the foam stuff starts coming back up.. Has anyone else experienced this? Both times it has happened the doctors office has been closed "3 during the week, and 2 on fridays" I go back to the doctor on Monday for my 3 week post op, and plan on questioning the issue then, but for now I figured I would check and see if anyone else has experienced this, and if so what was the cause and how did you get it to stop? Other then that everything else is perfect. I am back on all my meats "chicken goes easier for me" and I am eating SOFT veggies "nothing crunchy just yet"..

What in the world is going on?
MommyTawnie replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the doctor started me on stage 4 post op diet at 2 weeks.. I do eat slowly very very slowly. It took me an hour the other night to eat a 1/4 of a chicken breast. I have had no other problems up to the point, and I guess I should have added in there I was diagnosed with the H. Pylori Bacteria the day before my surgery so I am on pills as well for that.. Drinking is getting easier "still sip sip sipping though" I thought it was to early for stage 4, but every doctor is different with there own set of rules. I used a highly recommended surgeon that has had zero complications because of surgery. He travels the world doing siminars over WLS. He is very very good at what he does, and is very low key with the advertising. -
And the stupid comments begin...
MommyTawnie replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My family was very supportive!! It was my mother in law that had the big problem with what I was doing.. She couldn't wrap her head around the thought of someone she knows actually having weight loss surgery "Hubby's family are all normal size people" She even started in with me during Christmas dinner "3 days out" with the whole "I can't believe you would do something like that. I could see someone in there 40s doing it, but your not even 30 yet" I get that I'm not even 30 yet, but goodness what does she want, me to continue in life as an obess mother/wife to her grandchildren and son. I had tried to loose the weight and always lost the battle. I would get 20lbs down, and for every pound I would loose after that I would gain 2 back. Eventually I was back up to were I started, and sometimes weighing more. It's not a fun battle, and people that have never delt with weight issues do not know where we are coming from. My husband still picks on me about the amount I can eat, but it's the good kind of picking. I've started to just not care what people say/think of my decision to have surgery. I am doing this not only for me, but for my family. I want to watch my children grow up, and I want to see grandchildren in the future. I can't do any of that if I'm dead. Next time someone says something about what you have done, simply tell them it was your decision, and you made this decision based on health concerns and your future. Don't give into there actions.. -

Vitamins after surgery
MommyTawnie replied to Cinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought my multi-vitamin at Sam's.. It's the store brand pill, but it does the same as the Centrum and is a lot cheaper. Also it's a lot smaller then other vitamins out there.. I was also told if I had problems with swallowing the pills I could chew 2 childrens vitamins once a day and get the same results.. -
I'm FREEZING cold
MommyTawnie replied to Go Kart Mozart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I to used to over heat just going from the house to the car "50 steps or so" The new colder me is a nice exchange for the old overweight me.. I may not have lost but 37lbs up to this point, but it's been enough to cool me down.. I live in southest Texas so the winters here are not to nice to people that over heat easily. Take the change and just deal with the cold.. Spring/Summer time will be here before you know it, and you will be greatful you aren't as hot and sweaty as you were pre-surgery.. -
Holy Fast Approval Batman!
MommyTawnie replied to cynslosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I to had Aetna but my approval took a bit longer to go through. We submitted on the 28th of November. On December 8th they called me to let me know I have been approved and we needed to get my date set. I was originally aiming for the 17th, but of course that didn't happen. I had to do all of my preop testing as well as start my liquid diet so my date was moved to the 21st. On the 20th I was almost denied surgery by my surgeon because of a bacteria that was found in my stomach. Long story short because I was having the sleeve done and not the bypass surgery was able to happen as planned. As of now I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op and down from 243 day of surgery to 217 "I weighed this morning " Aetna isn't as bad as people think when it comes to approval. I think we all have figured that out. Now I just hope our new insurance "UnitedHealth" is as easy to deal with for the surgery "hubby is starting his 6 months charting this month". Congrats on your fast surgery. Take time to heal, and enjoy the changes that happen so quickly!! -
I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow, and I am still struggling to get my protein in.. I have bought samples after samples but nothings working.. I even attempted one of the protein bullets "55g in a 4.33 oz bottle" It was like drinking metal the taste and smell was horrible. I have tried mixing it with water, but some of it says not to mix with water. So I bought the lactose free milk to mix it with and it froths so bad I can't get past the air bubbles. What am I going to do? I try to find mushies that have 5 or more grams of protein a serving and make that my focus for the day, but it doesn't seem like it's enough.. Doing it that way I am only getting in maybe 15-20g instead of the recommended 50-60g.. I started back on chopped meats today so that will help a little, but geeze it doesn't have enough to give my body what it needs. I am looking for any advice on what to do to get more protein in me.. I wish there was a pill that would give me all my needed protein for the day LoL

I've been dealing with alot of heartburn after my surgery. It's mainly in my chest, but does move up to my throat at night.. Did they scope you before surgery to see if there maybe bacteria or anything in your stomach? I was scoped the day before my surgery and the H. Pylori bacteria was found. It causes your stomach to produce way more stomach acid "because it's trying to rid the bacteria" I never delt with heartburn other then when I was pregnant, so it's been really difficult. My doctors office told me that the H. Pylori will cause heartburn to be worse then it would be without the bacteria and with out treatment can cause worse problems over time "Stomach Ulcers/Cancer" If you didn't get scoped find out why and see if there's something they can do to see what's causing the excess acid. Especially if the meds they gave you aren't working.. Best of Luck!!

Surgical Glue "clear stuff" will come off on it's own. Don't pull it off or scrub it off no matter what you do.. If it's still there at your next appoinment ask the doctor/nurse if there is something that will remove the rest without tugging or pulling the incision sites. My doctor used butterfly sutures to close my incision sites. At my 1 week check up he told me I could remove them in the shower that night. If your unsure about anything call the office and find out what they would recommend first. Best of Luck on Your new Journey!!

Still a Fight!!
MommyTawnie replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys for the responses!! I have been on mushies since I came home from the hospital.. I started back on my chopped meats yesterday so that will give me a bit of protein that I need.. I also found an unflavored protein powder last night at the grocery store! It has 20g of protein a serving and was only $13 for the jar of powder! I am worried about the protein more because the doctor told me to focus on my protein intake and to make sure I get plenty of liquids.. "Always do what the doctor tells you" is what I tell myself.. I have healed so far wonderfully no pain anywhere. Just the occasional air bubbles I get in my chest/stomach if I swollow to fast. I had some tuna salad for dinner last night and ate to much.. I only had 1 tbsp, and it was to much. My husband can't get over the changes my body is already going through. LoL Anyway thanks again for the response hopefully I will be able to find what works for me soon!! -
So during my scoping the doctor found the H Pylori Bacteria in my stomach. His first suggestion on the matter was to put off surgery for 2 weeks until it was cleared up. Knowing that my insurance changes on the 1st we decided to go through with the surgery and treat the problem 2 weeks post op for 2 weeks. I am now 1 week 2 days out and I have been having horrible pains in my chest/throat it feels like it is on fire. At the same time I feel like I'm hungry. So I don't know if it's heart burn thats going on or if it's hunger? I can't eat much right now although I start back on my chopped meats Monday. I feel perfect in everyway other then the pain/fire going on in my chest/throat. I bought an over the counter antacid today "doctors suggestion" I just hope it clears it up. I've never dealt with heart burn so I don't really know if that's what it is.. Please anyone is this normal with the surgery or is it caused because of the bacteria?

Pain when sipping......
MommyTawnie replied to Firefly2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow and I still deal with the tightness in my chest/stomach when I sip or try to eat anything. I wait atleast 3-4 minutes between nibbles and my sips are very very tiny, but yet it still happens.. I don't know what causes it "maybe air you are taking in with out knowing you are doing it" Try spacing your sips farther apart, and be extremely careful when eating anything. -
Well I will be going back to work today.. I am a manager at a fast food place. I will be 2 weeks out from surgery Tuesday so I hope it isn't to much with me going back today.. The doctor did tell me to take atleast 2 weeks off. How did going back to work effect you after surgery?

Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast?
MommyTawnie replied to Deedle Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband bought it for me at Krogers. It is very rich so be careful. I didn't really like it to much because I would get about 1/2 through the glass and there would be a slimy film on the bottom... I don't know if it's from the lactose milk or what was causing it, but it was enough to make me stop drinking it... -
Brownbear Post Op Update
MommyTawnie replied to Brownbear29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From my own experience I didn't go for the first 4-5 days. Which I am guessing is normal. All was normal when I did go. However at the 1 week mark I had a bit of Diarhea "also normal" I took some imodium and was back to normal in no time.. Glad to hear all is going great for you Brownbear!! It's rough in the start, but it gets better as the days go by. I will be 2 weeks Tuesday and can't believe how fast it has gone. In the past 2 weeks I have dropped 25lbs!!! Wow oh Wow!! -
I am now lactose intolerant. I wasn't a big milk drinker to begin with but I did enjoy a glass every now and then. Lately I have been craving Milk and can no longer drink it I mixed one of the carnation instant breakfast packs with skim milk this morning not paying attention to what I was doing, and lived to regret it about half way through. I sip sip sip so it's not getting in to quickly, but when I hit about an ounce to 2 ounce mark I started vomiting, and not the nice quit way it was horrible. I went and bought the lactaid milk tonight for breakfast tomorrow I just don't know how well I'm going to like it. I poured a small glass to taste, and it's really sweet. Is there another brand out there that's not as sweet but still lactose free? I looked like and idiot tonight reading all ingredients and nutrition label at the store. Does it get easier now that I know for sure it's Lactose I can't have? Will cheese do the same thing to me when I try to introduce it back into my diet? Lots of confusion right now.

Sip Sip Sip if your not sipping it could be what's causing the uncomfortable feeling in your chest/throat. It gets better as the days go by but you will never again be able to drink fast. I talked to a lady tonight that is a year out of surgery and she said she still gets that feeling if she drinks or swallows to fast. It's very uncomfortable I know because it happens to me if I get to big of a drink. However it could also be gas pains you are feeling or the acid from your stomach. I started getting a really weird feeling in my chest after drinking certain things and it would stick around for awhile. I called the doctors office and they said it was probably the acid and to start on an otc antacid. Always call the doctor before starting anything like that, but do check into it. I started on the prilosec this morning and it's already starting to work. Plus I haven't had that weird gas/air feeling in my chest. My surgery was on the 21st so everything I've gone through you are starting to go through now. This website is a wonderful website for answers so never be afraid to ask anything.. Best of Luck to You on Your New Journey!!

No appetite for anything...blah
MommyTawnie replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein as long as you are getting that in then you will be fine with sticking with liquids you are wanting.. It took me a week or so to get back any want for something other then liquids. I am finally able to eat mushie items but have to be extremely careful with what I choose to eat. If it has to much sugar in it I feel like I'm going to die. If it wasn't really what I wanted but I ate it anyway I feel like I'm going to get sick. Either way it sucks however this past couple of days "1week and 2-4 days out" I have felt like trying more and more. I start on my chopped meats Monday so I figured I would go ahead and test the waters with the juice from Soups with chunks in it. I have started spooning out mushie items from certain dishes I fix for the family, and I have to say it's staying down pretty well. I did however eat to fast last night and felt horrible for a while. Stay strong and know that the stage you are going through now WILL PASS!! You are only 4 days out when I was 4 days out I felt like crap. Pain in my chest and shoulders from gas, and the discomfort of not wanting anything but Water. It's not easy in the beginning but it gets easier as the week progresses I promise!! -
My doctor actually recommended me to use children's plates and bowls that away I don't have the problem of getting to much at a time. If nothing else I use a saucer to put food on. I am very careful with what goes in my stomach now. I have made sure to stick with anything with less than 8g of sugar. Anymore sugar then that I feel like I'm dying. I start getting hot and feeling like I need to throw up. As for the pizza I have no intentions of ever introducing that to my diet again. I am doing this to loose weight why start back on foods that got me to this place to begin with? I mean yes you are eating a lot less, but it's still full of fat/sugar, and not to mention GREESE! I am going on 2 weeks out so I couldn't imagine putting it in my body at this stage. I am still having trouble with certain mushie foods..

I plan on staying away from orange juice. To high in sugar I was told not to take in more then 8-10 grams of sugar at a time, however I'm wondering when I can have my grapefruit juice again...

Why am I so thirsty?
MommyTawnie replied to MRSKOUBiK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week 1 day post op and I am still dealing with the same issue. I have stopped drinking and watch my clock for 30 minutes to pass before I even attempt anything, and I still feel like I am going to burst from being so full. I start back on my solids Monday and I don't know how I am going to handle getting my meat down if I can't manage to get much liquid down. I've caught myself plenty of times trying to take care of my thirst. I broke down crying the other night because I am sooooo thirsty but can't take care of the problem. I'm not dehydrated and I am doing good holding things down. I am just thirsty. Now I'm starting to feel hungry like I haven't eaten in ages, and as if I can eat a huge steak. From everyone I've talked to it gets better and our stomachs will go back to normal it just takes time. Best of Luck!! -
Shoulder Blade Pain
MommyTawnie replied to stacy2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 almost 6 days out and I to had major gas pains in my left shoulder and then it moved to the right. Now I am dealing with gas pains in my left side. I really don't think it's a leak considering the doctor has me drinking 16ozs of purple sugar free koolaid and it's never showed up in my drain. I just think it's the gas from surgery. I have heard stories from friends with the same experience on how they delt with the pain for a month after surgery because the gas wouldn't come out. IDK I am already past the shoulder pain and it was a killer.. Try a heating pad and rest see if that helps. Also try rocking I started rocking the other night and it's amazing how much it helps soothe everything. As for the feeling full and tummy problem sip sip sip. I still catch myself taking a drink to fast and half way through know it's to late, but try to slow it down. I went through my first fight with sipping broth to quickly early started having hot flashes, as well as an upset stomach and gas. Our bodies have to adjust to the new stomach as do we. It gets better is all I hear day in and day out so that's what I'm going to say to you.. It gets better!! -
So I have gone all day with 1 pain pill, and that was only because I tried again to drink a protein shake and ended up getting sick.. Nothing else is bothering me like that so I don't know what's going on.. Also I have noticed that I am dealing with more gas in the evenings. Is this a normal part of the first week or am I eating/doing something wrong? I haven't eaten much so I don't think it liquid related unless it's the skim milk from the shake that's causing everything.. Who knows I just know I go back in on Monday to have my drain tube taken out and I am excited to go from there. No leaks for this girl I have drank the purple sugar free koolaid with nothing coming through the tube. LoL I was more worried about a leak then recovery. Anyway I wanted to share my achievment today with the whole pain pill situation. I guess tylenol is my next step from here. Also on another note I have lost 15 pounds this first week. I don't know how normal that is, but it's kind of weird feeling to me. My pants still fit but only barely, and I have nothing to go into from this stage on. I guess I see Goodwill Shopping in my near future.. Thank goodness ours has $.50 days..
