How to avoid the topic to new people?
MommyTawnie replied to buchannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you think this guy could be a long term boyfriend then consider telling him what you have gone through and why you don't eat as much. Or maybe order off the kids menu.. I have started doing that and it keeps the stares down when I don't eat more then a quarter of what they bring to me... But then again I'm not afraid to tell anyone that I have had surgery.. It was a life choice that I made and I feel I shouldn't have to keep it from anyone. After all who cares what they say/think My body My life My CHOICE!! As for everyone else only tell them if and when you feel comfortable talking about it. If that never happens then so be it that's your choice to make.. Best of Luck to You!! -
The healthiest snacks...
MommyTawnie replied to curtsj01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the South Beach Protein Bars.. They are small snack size bars with lots of protein. More then most other bars!! I keep them stocked in my cabinet just incase I was something sweet.. I have tried other bars and none of them are as tasty as the South Beach. I to catch myself reading every protein/snack bar I pick up.. I refuse to eat anything with more then 5-8 grams of sugar a serving.. -
My first pureed meat meal. Ugh!
MommyTawnie replied to PatrickG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have come to realize that Chicken no matter what form it is in is harder to get down than any other meat, and the ranch dressing probably didn't help matters any. I tried ranch after I was allowed to start back on salads "1 month post op" and it made me feel sooooo bad after. -
I was allowed to start back on Salads at my 1 month mark, but because salad is so hard to Digest I didn't want to take any chances with it so I held off on it. I finally enjoyed 1 yesterday at 2 months out and I have to say I'm glad I waited because I still had a bit of a struggle with it. I felt all hot and sweaty and like I was going to get sick to my stomach. I took my time 30-45 minutes to eat what I ate so I knows it's not because I ate to fast. I'm thinking about holding off just a couple of more weeks before I try it again..

Tylenol is fine. I was told to buy the tablets instead of the capsules.. Just stay away from anything with aprin in it. That's the no no med after surgery..

I just got over a big ordeal with a slow leak. Mine developed over the course of a month "which hasn't been seen before" I started hurting in my ribs and over the course of a week it got worse and spread to my shoulder. It got to the point where I couldn't lay down without pain. I couldn't sit up very long because of the pain. Grant it yes I was also dealing with pneumonia and a collapsed lung. The pain from the leak was very very noticeable. However not all leaks will present the same. I was told if I had a leak the pain would be in my abdomin not true. My pain was in my ribs/chest/shoulder area. If you are still in pain in the morning call your surgeons office and see if they can just check you out to make sure all is ok. I probably wouldn't have said that a month ago, but after going through it I don't want anyone else to suffer the way I did. However with you being only 10 days out you could just be dealing with excess gas pains. I was told they could last for a while after surgery..

Lifting after surgery? I'm a mom...
MommyTawnie replied to honeyrubybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your really not suppose to lift anything over 2-5lbs during the first 2-3 weeks is what my doctor told me, but after explaining to him that I'm the one that stays home with my 2 small children he bent and told me it would be ok, but to limit the amount of times I lift, and not to lift/carry just because. I am now 2 months out today and I was finally cleared to resume all activities at the gym.. -
Good news from the doctor, but worried it won't last..
MommyTawnie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So after my month from hell and my 14 days in the hospital I was once again told everything was perfect.. I just don't want to celebrate for fear of me having more problems.. I have delt with a leak, an absess, pneumonia and a collapsed lung during the past month. I was hospitalized twice for a total of 14 days. I feel great and I am in a size 16!! That's 3 pants sizes in 2 months. I don't want anything else to go wrong I am trying to get myself back to the positive thinking. I just know that anything can happen at anytime.. However my doctor made me feel great with the news of me being able to start back at the gym lifting weights, and doing the ever so beloved ZUMBA!! I need to tone and I need to do it ASAP!! LoL before surgery I was at the gym 3-4 days a week for 2 hours at a time. I need to get that going again.. Anyway I am going to stop rambling and get off of here. -
It sounds like you need a better ppi.. Explain to the doctor waht is going on and see if he can prescribe you something different.. I am taking Nexium and it is a god send.. Over time yes it will get better, but for now try sipping some hot tea 30 minutes after eating. I was told alot of the reflux is caused by mucus pushing the acid back up. The hot tea will help break it down.. Best of luck to you!!

OMG please tell me it's normal and will go away...
MommyTawnie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The past couple of days I have had a horrible sour stomach. I have tried pepto and recieved no relief with it. On top of dealing with that I am dealing with acid reflux again. I was just getting over it when I went into the hospital. While I was there it came back twice as bad as it was before. Now my teeth feel yucky all the time. Like I haven't brushed them in weeks. When in fact I just got finished brushing them. I don't know if this is normal I just want to know will it go away? And what in the world can I do to get rid of this sour stomach? -
Im practicing...
MommyTawnie replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As much fear as you have now you will be surprised how different you will feel when you get to the hospital. I totally freaked out the day I went into to get scoped and the next day I was very calm. I came out with very little pain "what pain I had was from gas" I came home the next day and never complained a bit. My husband told me this was the best surgery experience ever. When I asked him why he said because you never once cried out in pain. Stay strong and keep telling yourself your doing it for a healthier you. My doctor made sure I had plenty of happy medicine in me before taking me back to surgery. Good luck Tuesday!! -
Anyone have a food you sleeve didn't like???
MommyTawnie replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried a hot dog cut into small pieces and had the same thing happen to me. It's not fun and hopefully I will be able to enjoy a hot dog again, but as for not I am staying away from it. I've also had milk do me that way. Which is strange because I can eat dairy just can't drink it?? -
Why does it smell so ugh???
MommyTawnie replied to Baglady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of it could have to do with the protein shakes you are on. I know during pre-op when I started all the protein shakes I was horrible and hubby couldn't stand to be around me when I was gassy. Then again your body has gone through a lot and it has to get it's self back to normal. It will over time get better I promise!! I am 2 months out and haven't had stinky gas for awhile. However I have been dealing with a sour stomach which is worse then stinky gas at times.. -

I am on a ppi "nexium" it works wonderful I just wake up with the tast of acid in my mouth. On top of my teeth feeling nasty it's not a good combo.. Today however the heartburn has been horrible. Sour stomach as well. I want it to all hurry up and become a memory not a big part of my life on a daily basis.. -
You could have a skin infection around the incesions. It's wise to call the doctor and see about getting in asap to have it looked at. The reason this comes to mind is because after I had my hysterectomy I developed a small rash that within a day spread out. I was prescribed antibiotics and within a few days the rash started clearing up. Best of Luck to You!!

Draining is normal after having the drain removed. Just tape some gauze over it and try to forget about it till later when it needs changed again. The hole will close on it's own and will heal quickly!! This is my 2nd time with a drain and the first time I never had any draining while it was in and very little when it came out. This time I have had lots of draining so there's no telling how bad it's going to get when the drain comes out. I just know it heals quickly and will soon be a memory..
-
The drain never caused any pain/dicomfort until it came out. I was fine until the end of the drain was coming out and the pain kicked in. After a tylenol and rest I was pain free again. However I get to experience the same pain/discomfort I felt at 1 week out at my 2 month mark. I was one of the unfortunate souls that developed a leak only mine was at a month out. After a 9 day stay at the hospital and praying the Fluid would clear up it didn't I went back a week later for a 5 day stay. My 2nd day there I was ever to lucky to have to go through surgery again and have a jp drain placed to clear out what fluid was left. My fear this time is it's going to hurt A LOT worse. The surgeon was kind enough to go back through old incesions but it came with a price. Very bad pain that has this past week and a half, and my thoughts on the matter are if it hurts just sitting how bad is the pain going to be when they pull this thing out?? Sorry to tell my life story I tend to chat about crazy things from time to time. LoL Congrats on getting the drain out and your new journey!!

weight gain after surgery?? can this be possible?
MommyTawnie replied to shaundra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ALL scales are different. Plus you have to account for your clothing. My doctors scales are set 2lbs heavier then the average 3lbs for clothing. So that in it's self it 5lbs!! I weigh myself at home once a week "usually in the nude" That's the weight I go by.. Don't beat yourself up over something that could be out of your control. Weight will come off and when it starts you will forget all about the 2lbs the first week.. -
LoL never to much info after all we are all adults right? If you feel you are up to it and your doctor has cleared you then go for it!! Maybe try a regular position the first couple of times so you can control what pressure if any touches your stomach. If your girlfriend is freaked out with the idea of having sex with you this soon after surgery then try other things "you know what I'm talking about" It's always a good place to start and over a few days who knows she maybe begging you for it. Congrats on feeling so well just take it easy at first you don't want to hurt yourself!!

Is it really gas. . . or something else
MommyTawnie replied to butterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your surgeon and see about getting it checked out asap.. I hurt off and on for a week and thought it was gas pains. It wasn't instead it was a tiny little leak causing all the problems. Well that and pneumonia! If your stomach is getting tender during these attacks get it looked at!! It may very well be galstones if so your insurance should still cover any medical needs.. -
Post Op Checkups
MommyTawnie replied to pcos_chick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon normally does a check up at 1 week post op and then another one at 3 weeks and another at 3 months for blood work and results. Then 6 months and 1 year.. Then no more till a year and a half. After that it's yearly blood work I believe with normal results over the phone.. -
After a month from hell I am proud to say I have crossed over to Onederland!! This morning the scales read 199.8 with the added weight from my camera the weight was back up to 200.5 However tonight the scales read 198.5 with my camera the weight was 199.2 YaY me I have made it to Onederland!! Now on another note this is an update for all that have been following my post the past couple of weeks! I am sad to announce after my 9 day stay at the hospital and my week stay at home I was re-admitted back to the hospital last Tuesday February 8th. I was there another 5 days with surgery on the 2nd day to insert a drain tube to drain the Fluid and absess that was there from the leak my stomach developed at a month out. I have to keep this thing in till Monday and it is painful!! Worse part I still feel like there's fluid building up. Isn't the drain suppose to keep that from happening. Argggg it's been a tough month but I will survive!!

YAY Onederland!!!
MommyTawnie replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks you guys!! I have had amazing support from everyone on here as well as my wonderful husband.. He didn't know what to think when I started screaming ONDERLAND YES YES YES I MADE IT TO ONEDERLAND!! Now he knows what it means, and yes it's such a rewarding feeling to know the 200s are gone FOREVER!! As for the rest Monday will be here soon enough and hopefully that puts the rest of what's went on in the past.. I hit this head on knowing what could happen so it's all part of the experience for me.. -
Orange Juice after surgery
MommyTawnie replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 2 months out tomorrow and I enjoy about 2oz of OJ everynow and then. I try to limit myself because of the acid and the calories/sugar you take in when you drink it.. Over time it shouldn't be a problem enjoying it with your breakfast. I know my NUT told me the other day to make sure I was getting in my juice as well as water/milk. Talk to your doctor about it and see what his/her thoughts are on the matter.. -
Kinda gross question, not really but...
MommyTawnie replied to vickie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went a full week without a bowel movement, and was told by a doctor to use miralax.. Be sure you are drinking plenty of liquids, and maybe use a stool softner if you continue to not have any luck. Also be warned after about 8-10 days I had no problem going to the bathroom. Called the doctor and it to is a normal part of the process. Once you are back on a somewhat normal diet things will get better I promise you that..
