My mom is having a horrible time with her band. All the usual band problems, esophogus problems, unfilling, refilling, weight coming back, and now the port seems to be moving. She has Health Plus and doesnt think she can get them to pay. Has anybody gotten the revision paid for by inssrance? did you have to appeal? Anybody have Health Plus? I am trying to get whatever info I can for her. Espescially since I now I have my Sleeve Im feeling a little guilty.

6 Month Supervised Diet
stephany48463 replied to karaserene1985's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ummm. From my experience with low carb diets. and I did mine for 4 of my 6 month diet documentation and lost 40 lbs in that 4 months( the first 2 months I follwed the diet my doc gave me and lost nothing). I have also done atkins 2 other time and lost a lot of weight but was just unable to stick with it for more than 6 months. The diet you describe has too many carbs and not enough food. Sounds as if you're not getting to ketosis, there are ketone sticks you can test your urine with that you can get at walgreens in the diabetic/diagnostic section. If I were you I would try one month with more protien and no fruit. Just a suggestion from someone who's been there. -
I am trying to get info for my mom who needs a band to sleeve revision. Has anybody gotten Insuance to pay. Im especially interested if you have Health PLus as that is what she has but would love any info anybody has??

Im 3 weeks out too and also had a couple weird sharp pain the other day. I've heard it could just be nerves in the tummy reconnecting. -
Anyone prescribed 2 PPI's a day?
stephany48463 replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Has anybody gotten Health Plus to pay for a revision from Band to Sleeve? My mom is having a horrible time with her Band. She did initially lose a lot but I think it was despite the sleeve not because of it. They have filled and unfilled it many times. she has had esphoigial(sp) swell, GERD, and now thinks her port has flipped. BUt she is afraid of getting it out and being left with nothing. Now that I have the Sleeve she is really regretting ever getting the Band. IM trying to get her to start the process because she is probably going to have to appeal it. Just think if I can find somebody who has gotten it through it would give her hope. thanks

Paperwork is turned into the insuance company, finally! Started this process 3 years ago, got through consults and psych eval, and everything. Then had a wonderful little suprise roadblock we named Tyler and had to wait to start the process over. Had to start over with new insuance conpany learn all the new requirements which included a 6 month diet documentation required by my employer. Took my doc almost 2 weeks to get that to the insurance lady at my surgeons. I think everything is in order this time and hopefully I am just waiting for approval. But this whole waiting this is driving me nuts! I just really want to be approved. When should I start calling them to find out the status of my claim?? It just got turned in Monday but I have heard BCBS IL sometimes comes back fast but takes awhile to mail it out.

stephany48463 replied to coops's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to walk aways from the scale too, I just cant believe IM stuck already! nothing in the last 4 days! I know it is my body adjusting to everything but I guess I just have to learn to be patient! -
my sergeon said walk walk walk meant 5 mins out of every hours at this point. So with what you did that would be a lot!

So I am 1 week out and have been faithfully drinking out of the 1 ounce medicine cups that they gave me at the hospital. I was not getting in nearly enough fluid and was burping 24-7. then I opened the cupboard to get my 2 yr old a drink and a stack of those cheap plastic sippy cups (no valves, they com in 5 packs) fell out at my head. I decided to try it. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! Burping is seriously reduced., there fore I and getting in much more fluiids. My protien shakes were the worst before, painful gain and I could barely get 1 shake down with gas x, now just a little burping and the shakes r going in. Hopefully I will actually drink all 3 tomorrow like Im supposed to! Hope this helps somebody get past that miserable gas! ing is seriously reduced., there fore I and getting in much more fluiids. 4 days post-op temp is 100.4 please set my mind at ease!!!!!!
stephany48463 replied to Alish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering, how many of you who are straving now were on a liquid diet pre-op? I am having the opposite problem 6 days out. I'm so not hungry I am lucky if I am getting one shake down and sure I havent reaached my water requirements yet. MY pre-op was 3 weeks of liquids with 4 oz of chicken a day for the first 2 weeks. Im just wondering if that makes a differnce? -

stephany48463 replied to lamsunshine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Iamsunshine, it will go fast. It has taken me 3 years and 1 suprise pregnancy but I am finally getting sleeved on Monday!! Even this 3 week liquid diet seems to be going by pretty fast! -
I just screwed up big time. I am on my 3 week liquid diet. I made it through week one just fine but today (day 9) I cheated, bad, ate the mac n cheese I made for my son. Last few days have been rough. It is our county fair and my older son shows animals so I have to be there all week smelling all those greasey sweet wonderful smells. I My hubs doesnt understand why being on a liquid diet that makes me tired and cranky I would not want to have the 2 year old at the fair with me(btw he's unemployed so no reason he cant keep the 2 yr old) . I also got the world worst sunburn yesterday. So today I broke. Good news is I have 12 days left to get my **** together. Tme to brush off and figure out how to get through the rest of the week!e I made for my son.

stephany48463 replied to stephany48463's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
thanks everyone, back in the saddle now. so as long as that my only cheat Im sure Im good. Its not even that I have been hungry doin this. BUt I am tired cranky and lack the ability to focus...Gotta keep to a good schedule with my protien or I get really stupid. Good news is my shakes(Better MD www.dietdirect.com) are actually very tasty.and in 10 days Im down 10.8 lbs. It will all be worth it in then end and this time next year I am going to have a badass 30th birthday party....even if it means drinking shakes for my 29th! -
where are the heavyweights?
stephany48463 replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Right here. heaviest was 324. My sadist surgeon is making me do a 3 week pre-op liquid diet. I already did a six month low carb diet and lost 40lbs. coarse I put ten back on in between approval and starting liquid cuz I had a fat kid relapse after finding out I was going to have to do 3 weeks of liquids. 2 days into liquids and not too bad so far. Serious caffine withdrawl headaches. But will be worth it in the end. I hope to get to 175 but would be completely ok with 199. My goals change daily! I have surgery on the 30th. So I cant let you know whats coming but there are plenty of other heavyweights on here that can! -
Im stuck and it starts today!! My surgeon wouldnt change his mind so I start my 3 week liquid diet today!! Here's hoping August 30th arrives quickly!! And that I dont hurt my hubs or the children in the next 2 weeks.
-
EEK! Not fair!! This whole time I have been prepared for a 2 week liquid diet pre-op. I prepared for this mentally and finacially. Then I find out yesterday at my apt with the dietician that my surgeon has decided I need three weeks. Ok. I ask why. she says its up to the surgeon based on my weight. But, I have lost 25 lbs, not a lot. but it gets me from the fifties down to the forties for my BMI. Of coarse I cant actually have a conversation with the surgeon about this because I dont talk to him until the day of sugery so I guess Im stuck with her answer. Oh well. shakes are ordered now. Time to suck it up and get on with it! Just needed to vent a little...thanks!

Just a rant- John Goodman-
stephany48463 replied to citygal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Err I would like to slap Jillian too! first off she was once overweight. and by that she means overweight which is my first goal after surgery to just be ovewweight!!! Her highest weight is my goal weight! She was never obese, morbidly or otherwise. So all that I understand bull crap is just that. And all the product she sell are soo much bull crap. If John Goodman had surgery good for him. I do kinda wish the celebrities that deal with this would step up and say so though it might help the rest of us fight off the uninformed masses if they knew a little more about it! -
What is the most powerful, gut-exploding laxative I can buy OTC?
stephany48463 replied to Donna4545's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you really want to clear things out drink magnesium citrate ( that the stuff the make you drink before a colonoscopy) but I think that may be a little over kill. if its been a few days make sure you take a stool softener with whichever laxative you pick cuz otherwise you will hurt them hemroids! -

What to tell your boss??
stephany48463 replied to soon2bskinny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am glad the people I work with are very supportive. I am a brutally honest person and so it didnt even occur to me to not tell people. I am getting sleeved on the 30th. I can say that people have been curious but the only person who had to tell me about someone they new who had WLS and had terrible problems was someone who's opinion I dont take seriously anyway. Everyone else has asked questions but been really supportive. I was most scared to tell my boss. Finally blurted it out the other day and of coarse got 20 questions but was overall supportive and glad that I would be back before xmas product starts piling too high( I work in retail) I has short term disability so I will be taking off the 4 to 6 weeks my surgeon recomends. hopefully the six because I may be having my little sis' wedding reception at my house and hopefully once I start feeling better I can work on getting ready for that!
