I am looking for a good chicken salad recipe. I am tired of just mayo, chicken and a little relish. I really like zaxby's chicken salad but cant find a mimicked recipe. -
Doctor told me baths and pools were fine 1 week post op. This was during the 1 week post op visit

For me? Doctor said 2 weeks but I work from home at a desk job. Since I had surgery on Wed, I just had them put through STD as 1.5 weeks. So here is how it turned out for me: Week 1 after surgery - could have been back at work on that First Monday since I have a desk job at home. Would not have gone into an office though - still needed 1 more week to really recoup. Since STD was already approved, I stayed out that week Week 2 after surgery - still get tired about 3:30 each day, fortunately I can lie down without issue. Physical job would be a no. Office job would be tough at first but would get easier. Definitely would need a full 2 weeks to really be mentally ready for office job Week 3 after surgery - this is where I am now. tiredness in afternoon fading - physically feel like I can do anything but doc says to still not lift anything over 25lbs for 4 total weeks after surgery. Mentally, office job would be back on track

Its the gas bubbles - tiny pouch and lots of carbonation may not mix well. -

How do you use isopure?
schaf921 replied to pistolpete's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was looking at using Isopure but Long term, is this the best way to get protein. I mean is protein from eating 3 oz of chicken the same as drinking from Isopure? I ask because my nutritionist always talks about 'when you can get your protein from full meals' (I am on mushy stage right now) so I wonder if there is 'better' protein or if it is the same. -
Came here with this exact question!!! Started my Mushy phase on Friday and had 3 bites of Beans off my wife's plate Friday night from Mexican. That held - had shakes all before that. On Sat night, tried tuna fish with crackers. Made it from old recipe that included some spices and relish. had small bites with a wheat thin that I chewed well. Had about 6 small bites and 4 wheat thins total. Within an hour it came back up (all liquid so I know I chewed well). now afraid to eat and NO idea how to get 60 grams of Protein down when it seems mostly Soups and carbs are possible choices. Had 5 teaspoons of mashed potato this afternoon with unjury chicken protein mixed in but obviously 5 teaspoons isnt near my protein needs. So just to sure - I am reading I should have about 12 teaspoons of something solid (2 oz or 1/4 cup) but paperwork from nutritionist says 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food so worried that is too much. So my questions (doc had said I had a 32 boughie done on 6/30 ) How long does it take you to get the food down in the beginning? What are your high protein items you can eat in the beginning? And did anyone else have the habit of basically drinking a swallow with each bite previously and now that need has finally gone away? I have never seemed to have enough saliva when I eat and it is really worrying me now that I cant drink with food.

Do protein shakes count as liquid??
schaf921 replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes - My nutritionist has me on 48 oz of fluids for my first week post surgery (which was 6/30). 24 oz comes from "shakes" and 24 oz comes from other fluids. I just throw in Crystal Light in my water (I think it is called orange sunrise) and that's it. I also load up on SF popsicles - they are an easy way to get fluid in and I asked the nutritionist if I should limit them - she said honestly, since the they are SF and are helping to keep hydrated, she didnt have an issue with them early on. -
Sorry to hear your experience. Mine has been the exact opposite - no gall bladder removal but apparently I did have a hiatal hernia repaired. My surgery was Wed and had some minor pain initially but overall, I am shocked with the recovery. I was home by Thurs lunchtime and I didnt force myself on the liquids until yesterday (Friday). I have had no issues with pain - occasionally I do get a gas bubble with my drink but it seems to subside right away. I honestly thought to myself yesterday - did this guy really cut my stomach or did he fib to me? One thing I did was start the GasX melting strips before I left the hospital and a lot of people had said it really helped with recovery. It wont help for the gas they pump in your abdomen during surgery but should for your drinking once home. I really hope things turn around for you.

Kids Meal Card + question on Med Bracelet
schaf921 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok - been lurking and reviewing everyone's progress and this site has been extremely beneficial. I will probably post more once my surgery is over - it is TOMORROW! It really is fascinating the new life that will be in front of me. But the coolest thing so far is that during my presurgery appts yesterday, they gave me this laminated card to present at restaurants in the future stating that ordering from the kids meal is a medical necessity. Cool! That is one thing I wondered how I would deal once I got on regular food. They also mentioned getting a med alert bracelet in case of any accidents. Anyone have one? If so, what is on it? -
Piercings/Jewelry?
schaf921 replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was interested so Googled it - here was one of the responses I found from a Doc: In general, all metal jewelry should be removed prior to any surgery which uses electrocautery. There is always a risk of a burn if jewelry is not removed. A piercing that is 12 months old will generally not close up if left out for an hour or two. Alternately, some OR nurses are comfortable with taping a piece of jewelry with the caveat that there is always a small chance of a burn at the site of the piercing. My advice would be to simply remove the piercing. -
Hi all Been lurking while I went through all my prereqs for surgery inc 6 mths under doc supervised diet. I should have long had my surgery by now but first my patient rep couldnt find my dr's approval letter (sent in early April) then it took a while to get it according to her. After that, the insurance company said they never got the request from my doc (early May) Honestly, I am not so sure that happened but either way, with my pushing back to patient rep, insurance did finally receive everythign and approved within 2 days (UHC PPO+). Now I am finally ready to schedule surgery and patient rep wont schedule until formal notice comes in mail from insurance company which should happen this week. ANYWAY - on to my actual question - with family activities and wife going out of town in late June - How much assistance did you really need when you got home? I want to get this done asap as even though I am severely overweight I still enjoy playing tennis and softball and new seasons begin in Aug and know that I need 6 weeks before I can really get back out there. I am hoping if I schedule this just before my wife leaves, maybe a couple of days with my mom here can cover. She cant do much other than bring me stuff if needed

I have been wondering why small Bougies if the stomach is going to stretch later anyway. Why not just use the one for the size of the stomach you will end up having?
