I had my surgery last year in Juarez. I wouldn't worry about the violence. You ride from the airport straight to the hospital and back.

For self payers, IMHO Mexico is the best option. It is cheaper without having to wait for months and Mexico has the most experienced sleeve surgeons in the world. I too am from NC and was sleeved in Mexico 7/1/10.

Thanks for the information. I had heard that B-12 deficiency could cause numbness. I have been taking B-12 since surgery. I just checked a couple of my Multivitamins. One has 25mg of B-6 and the other one has 50 mg, which is 1250% and 2500% of daily recommendations. I wonder if I can find a Multivitamin without B-6.

If you find a cause for the numbness, please let me know.

I had surgery in Juarez by Dr. Rodriguez (7/1/10). I have had no complications and am down 115 lbs so far. Hospital very clean and also liked Dr. Rod and his staff. From reading here there are several good surgeon choices in Mexico.

I have a tingling (numb, asleep) feeling in my little finger since surgery too. I thought it could be a side effect from PPI's or not getting enough B12 but have been off them for a few weeks now and my finger is still numb.

Since having the sleeve surgery July 1, I have now lost 105 lbs. (340-235). Many thanks go to this forum and it's members for the information and testimonies that helped me make the decision to have the sleeve surgery. To say that I am glad that I had surgery and love my sleeve would be an understatement. Thanks again!!!

I am male, 38, and from NC. I was "sleeved" July 1 by Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez at Star Medica. I have been very lucky. My recovery was quick and I have never had problems getting in enough Water as some have. After going back on solid food, I have not had any problems eating anything. I have never had any problems with "taste" as some has had. Luckily for me everything still tastes the same. I am pleased with my weight loss to this point, but I probably would have lost more if I had keep my Protein intake up. I try to eat food high in protein when I eat but have not been getting enough. I just got tired of the shakes. I still have one occasionally or a Protein Bar but have not been doing it daily, as I should. I have been taking PPI's since surgery and am trying to get off of them due to possible side effects. I have not taken one in almost a week and don't seem to be having any problems other than feeling that I need to eat more often. The PPI's do seem to suppress the appetite. I will be happy to answer any questions. Thanks goes to everyone who have helped me along the way with posts and testimonies from this forum.

I was also sleeved in July and have only had "stomach burning" when I tried to stop taking PPI's. When you start the PPI's, it will take a few days to see results. I have been wanting to get off them due to the side effects. I am now taking one every other day and seem to be doing ok. When I run out, I may try zantac or galviscon and take when needed. I have read on here that some people have trouble getting off PPI's.

One that I recently tried and liked from GNC is called Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60, chocolate. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and fruit punch. Right now. it's buy one and get a second half price. The Supreme and Oh Yeah protein bars are not bad either. I tried some shots that had like 42g of protein and those things were terrible.

I had the sleeve by Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez, through Belite, on 7/1/10. So far, I have lost 60 lbs without any complications. Everything, the surgery, hospital, his staff, etc., exceeded my expectations.

I had the "regular" sleeve, 7/1/10, by Dr. Rodriguez. The surgery, his staff, the hospital, etc. exceeded my expectations. I went by myself and didn't have any problems.

I paid a $500 deposit and paid the balance when I arrived at the hospital with a cashiers check. The surgery is $150 cheaper in Tijuana vs. Juarez with Dr. Rod, but if you live in Texas Juarez is probably still the best option.

Surgery was $6850, through Belite.

I was "sleeved" in Juarez by Dr. Rodriguez at Star Medica last month. He and his staff exceeded my expectations. There are some other good choices but I don't think you can go wrong if you choose Dr. Rod.

I am a little over 2 weeks post-op. I feel as I am fully recovered from surgery. I can drink and eat "normally", no problems. I feel great and have been active since surgery, although the last few days I have a lot of joint pain (knees and ankles) and my little and ring finger on my left hand tingles a lot. Has anyone else had these symptoms? I have read that one possible side effect to PPI's is joint pain, but it is a rare side effect. Any ideas?

I am one week post-op and I am 30 lbs. lighter! The 30 lbs. also includes what I lost during the pre-op diet. I have been really lucky with my recovery. To be honest, I felt as good when I got home from surgery as I did when I left for surgery. I don't have any restriction drinking, as some has. I have only felt hungry once post-op. I think it was due to gas instead of a real hunger pang. I have even been fishing twice since surgery.

I think everyone that is considering sleeve surgery should consider surgery options in Mexico. You just can't beat the experience and the care that you get. I can only speak for Dr. Rodriguez but I don't think you could go wrong with Dr. Aceves, Dr. Alvarez or some other Dr.'s in Mexico. Just do research and read peoples testimonies here on this forum and others.

My last meal before the pre-op diet was two pecks of steamed oysters and two or three beers. My pre-op diet wasn't as strict as some. I had to basically go on an Atkins diet, low carb. For my last meal, before flying out the following day for surgery, was a ribeye with green beans.

Well, I have made it! Flew down yesterday and had my surgery after blood tests, EKG, chest e-xray, blood pressure checks, etc. When I came to, after surgery, I was in a lot of pain and was nauseaiated. I didn't have any shoulder pain as some has had. I am roughly 12 hrs. out of surgery and I already feel a 100% better, well maybe 70% lol. I have made a few laps in the hall but still have some gas and feel bloated. I also feel like I drank a cup of "dirt road". Gas-x has somewhat helped with that too. Star Medica is a nice hospital which is spotless. Dr. Rod and his staff seem very professional. I have an unexpected surprise to have internet in my room. I only have but two bars and it takes forever to load a page. Maybe it won't time out when I submit this. A lady, from Kentucky, that rode with me from the airport has a lot more "guts" than me. All combined she had her first flight, first trip out of the country, and surgery yesterday. I don't think I could have been that brave. I came by myself, but I have been on a lot of flights and actually worked in Mexico for 15 months in 2005 and 2006. It was in a different area but I don't think I would have had the "guts" to make my first flight and trip out of the country to have my surgery. So, I tip my hat to her!

Well, I'm home and I feel great. I can't believe how good I feel, seriously. I know it has a lot to do with being glad that I made it through the surgery and had enough courage to make the decision to have the surgery. I was mentally ready but not without "fear" and not without being nervous. I was prepared to not feel very good for a few weeks after surgery. I never dreamed that I could/would feel as good as I do now. I don't have any trouble drinking and I am not physically hungry. I didn't have an option for a direct flight to or from El Paso. My flight out there I had a connection in Atlanta and the flight back the connection was in Phoenix. After landing in Phoenix, I thought maybe I should check the cost to go to Vegas for a couple days while I am this close. I didn't check on it because I remembered I didn't have enough clothes packed. I think everyone that is considering sleeve surgery should consider surgery options in Mexico. You just can't beat the experience and the care that you get. I can only speak for Dr. Rodriguez but I don't think you could go wrong with Dr. Aceves, Dr. Alvarez or some other Dr.'s in Mexico. Just do research and read peoples testimonies here on this forum and others. I am thankful for this forum and it's members. They are the ones that gave me the courage to do the sleeve surgery.

I had the VSG not the super sleeve. Liliy the card works for Canada too and it's less than $.05/min. They have all kinds at Noble. I call it a card, but really they just emailed me access numbers and a pin number.
