eating when bored??
Globetrotter replied to jenn20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give your mouth something to do; sugar free suckers, gum, jaw-breaker. Give your hands something to do; knitting, crochet, needlepoint, cross-words, sudoku, journaling, mincing/slicing/dicing. Exercise. Pop a good wad of gum in, start knitting while watching tv and not only will the time fly by but you will have two things to show for it - weight loss and fabulous scarves! -
Like many of us I have struggled with my weight and fantasized about what I would wear if I wasn't fat. I've tried to maintain a tidy and maybe even slightly fashionable look, even at my highest weight but come on, let's get real! There are some outfits that just don't hang well on a bulky frame. I think everyone's got their thing; that secret sartorial thing that we've longed for and that is symbolic of getting where we always wanted to be etc. For some it's mile high heels, for others the perfect pair of designer jeans. For me the ultimate would be a string bikini, the kind that ties at the sides. Aside from that, I want to wear a clingy sleeveless tank-style above the knee dress, in the kind of material that shows every dimple and chunk if you aren't totally sleek. Hey I said these were dream outfits! What's yours?

You have GOT to go to the thread I started in the "Ladies Gone Wild" section - it addresses this exact, "problem", hee hee. The thread is called "now there's a side effect ..." -
Couple Silly/Stupid Questions
Globetrotter replied to notthatgirl77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 weeks out and still use a spoon and fork I got with cans of lunchmeat spread, so even tinier then baby utensils. Yes the water used in shakes etc. counts, in fact any liquid you can get down counts as liquids, including clear broths. I wasn't able to do "straight" liquids and food at the same time for the first 2-3 weeks. Never ever feel that a question is stupid or inconsequential, that is the beauty of this forum, we can all relate!! -
Yeah, I think I know that sasuage is high in fat ...:thumbup1: An army difac doesn't work that way, there are no "special considerations" that you can ask of a cook, not here, you take what you can get. The sausage was on days when my choices for protein were limited. I'm going back to having a shake every day, it keeps things simpler and easier to track. I'm also throwing away my peanut butter, clearly it has the potential to become a slider food.

tough love - how can you have forgotten your dietary needs? I didn't think that was physically possible. Are you in OA? Have you sought therapy for underlying issues? I'll guess that you aren't tracking your food then. It really keeps you honest, fitday - dailyplate - fatsecret are all online food trackers. I've heard of some folks here doing a "sleeve cleanse", sort of like resetting the clock, where they go back to a liquid/protein shake diet for a week.

So mad at my PCP *vent alert*

YESSSSSSSS!! I'm SO glad you filed a complaint - kick a$$!!!! was she skinny? -
This is why one of the many prescriptions I had to fill the day before surgery included one for lorazapam, an anti-anxiety medication. When My surgeon gave me the scrips I thought that was odd, why would I need an anti-anxiety med? Three days after surgery I found out - weeping and freaking out with major buyer's remorse, thank goodness for the lorazapam! By following a strict regimen of drugs and positive thinking in the first week I was able to get over it and now when occasionally the enormity of what I've done "occurs" to me, I just try to move on, spilt milk and all that.

A couple of months ago I posted a comment regarding this and Coke - old advertisements for Coke-Cola show people holding these teeny glasses with the trademark Coke shape, barely taller than the curve of their hands holding it. Today we are given plastic jugs so big you have to use both hands!

How can you tell the difference?
Globetrotter replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These are the Old Navy cargo pants, a cotton with zero give. I hope you are right and that my body is shifting shapes, the other pair though are brand new, never worn/washed, factory fresh so to speak. Those are the ones that although I can technically zip and button, I would NOT wear in public. I hope that now that I am run/walking every day that my shape will change even more and maybe the scale will even move. -
weight watchers anyone?
Globetrotter replied to iammelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree, it sounds like OA might offer you a more comprehensive tool that addresses the cause and not just the symptom. -
Foods you used to love but now hate
Globetrotter replied to citizenwill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I nibbled the tiniest corner of a piece of baklava today and it was horrible! I don't think it was the baklava's fault, it was fresh made today and I'm in a country that knows it's fried honey n nut sweets! So I think baklava is going on the list of no longer appealing foods. I wish peanut butter were on that list, I'm afraid it is becoming a slider. -
Reading all these posts I am grateful for the female family and friends in my life that are super supportive. One of my closest friends even felt comfortable to voice the fact that she may get anxious as I start losing and she starts gaining (she's pregnant), I love that we are open enough with each other to voice our emotions. My Mom is my biggest cheerleader and it was she who took care of me 24/7 the first couple of days after surgery. I have an Aunt though, who is very much the "Queen Bee". She rules her hive, nobody opposes her, and she is one scary lady. She is also quite overweight, at least 100+ pounds. She has always been in charge and loves to direct people's lives. I've decided not to tell her about the surgery, when I show up on her doorstep at a healthy weight in cute clothes, then I may mention it, but I do not need her bossy opinions and pronouncements from now till then!!:scared0:

I'm with ya! Protein Powder, you are a lying liar-pants and you taste nothing like fudge!! Maybe when I have access to a kitchen I will be able to jazz things up a la eggface but for now I am stuck with glutinous goopy RTD drinks that make me want to regurgitate.

Ah, here in the States we call them LBD's for Little Black Dress. An LBD doesn't have to be black tho, it's more the spirit of the garment - miniscule, revealing, shameless.:scared0: I just really want to wear clothes without a lot of fabric to them. How glorious would it be in the summertime to wear a cotton slip dress made of two airy pieces of fabric rather than upholstery? The real dream isn't just the goal outfit at goal weight, it's goal boobs - I would absolutely LOVE to wear any kind of a tank top without a bra, I can hardly imagine relying on the built in shelf - yoga clothes! They are always in preposterously teensy sizes.

Yup that was me, I was excited about finding fatsecret and posted here to see if anyone else had heard of it. It really keeps me honest and yes, I'm globetrotter there too. :scared0:

Finally found the food tracker that works for me
Globetrotter replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doug and Donna - I tried to find both of you on FS and no joy! I just discovered today another cool thing about FS - if there is a food that doesn't exist in their database, you can input it and thereafter it exists!! I put in Healthwise wild berry protein powder today and bam - now it exists! If you want to find me there and buddy me I am "globetrotter", same as here. -
Have you heard about Vergito?
Globetrotter replied to possumtrot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of it, in fact I was gung ho to have the vergito several years ago when I first made the decision to begin educating myself about wls. He has changed locations from California to, I think, Kentucky? Also, his website has not provided further information in the 4 years since they first offered the concept. -
:confused1:Body Con? Is that like one of those nerd conventions for comic books?

Can anyone recommend a good resistance band workout?
Globetrotter posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have limited resources (Iraq, army cob), can anyone recommend a resistance band workout that doesn't rely on a videotape? I want something that will strengthen and tone and I want to do it in my room until my confidence is high enough to get me to the public gym. Plus I'm concerned with maintaining/increasing muscle tone as I lose weight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. -
Can anyone recommend a good resistance band workout?

No, =( I don't have access to any electronics or gadgets beyong my laptop. -
Well I for one am just baffled. Emails to my nut. go unreturned so I will have to email the surgeon but this seems like a bothersome question to put to him. Today what is precisely going into my mouth, no more no less: 1 Breakfast sausage patty 1 plain tuna cup - no mayo 2 oz skinless baked chicken breast 3/4 cup chunks of honeydew melon 4oz canned turkey meat, drained This adds up to 591 calories, 26.74 fat grams, 12.3 carbs, and 72.5 Protein grams. caloric breakdown - 51% protein, 41% fat, 8% carbs. except for the sausage patty and the honeydew melon, there will be no flavor in todays food, just protein after metallic tasting protein. I suppose with my remaining 9 calories I could douse everything in mustard ...

A few days ago, just after my fifth week post-op, I suddenly wanted food. All this time I couldn't care less about food, really and truly, even if it was what should have been a trigger food. Then a few days ago, bam, I WANT FOOD. I want it - I want salt and fat and sugar and carbs and I want to shove it in my face. I haven't thank goodness, I feel bad enough about my daily 2TBSP of PB, but I'm shocked and a little afraid by this intense "head" and "taste bud" hunger. What is going on? :001_tongue: I have an intense high stress job and I literally live at work, recently yes, there have been some things that have upset me and increased my unhappiness with work. Before surgery, is this what was happening when I was self medicating with food? Is then when I was eating? I feel like I could chain-hoover salty greasy french fries till the cows come home. Of course, I have no idea whether I could physically eat one - don't want to find out - it's a slippery slope. I had a few teaspoons of mashed potato over the weekend and it went down alright but made me feel ucky. I just want to put everything in my mouth!! I work 12 hr days and have maybe 2 hours to relax before I have to be asleep to do it all over again the next day. During those two hours I read or watch movies or write or chat with friends and family. I have a knitting project that is being sent to me, I drink herbal tea no sweetener. If I could just have a pickle, it would satisfy I think - cold, crunchy, sharp, tangy. HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!:biggrin0:

My nut. told me to eat the yolks and I don't have eggs on the same day as I have cheese. The parmesan is the hard kind and I hand grated an ounce. It's already so difficult to get in enough protein I take it where I can get it. And anyway, my point was - how high fat is too high fat? What about good fats vs. bad fats? Even on days when I have taken in nothing but meat - boiled chicken, plain tuna, steak - the fat percentage is still an alarmingly high percentage of my daily total, even though my calories are less than 600 most days and my carbs less than 10.

stomach crunches??
Globetrotter replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, are you curling your shoulders and pelvis at the same time, making a C shape and then releasing? How many reps and sets?
