I would love to take advantage of this but I live in Utah. Any way you can find out what shipping would be and I could send that to you? Thanks -
Good luck and I hope you find some peace with your decision and come to feel that it was the best thing for everyone.

WLS or relationship :( I may have to choose

Just one thing I wanted to add My husband and I recently got back together after being divorced for two years. One thing I had to learn was to let go of the way I "knew" he would react to something. Sometimes we project our feelings about ourselves onto our loved ones and so if we feel "disgusted" by something we are doing we "know" that they will be too. I don't know your situation so maybe this doesn't fit, but in my case, I had to let him close enough to show me that he can respond differently than the way I "knew" he would. I suggest you have the heart to heart and see what happens. You never know, maybe he will surprise you. By the way, my husband had the same attitude as you bf before I took him to the seminar. Now he is 100% behind me, just worried about me and the cost, adn that I will get too skinny. Good luck in making some hard decisions. -

Las Vegas Dr's/experiences
ImReady replied to ImReady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the information. I went to Dr Atkinson's seminar and it was ok, but I really wanted more info on DR Teng since he was my first choice. I plan on going down to his seminar next month and checking it out. Did they quote you a price? Are there any fees you have to pay directly to the Dr, not covered by insurance? Dr Atkinson requires $150 to go to their Physch and then $250 for a nutrition fee that they say is listed wrong because it is actually for filing paperwork, etc. Can the upper GI be done through your PCP? I live in UT and don't want to have to make too many trips to Vegas. Thanks for your help.. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the question is whether or not the fundus is the part of the stomach that sends the signal to your brain the you are full and keeps you from overeating. My understanding is, I am preop so I could be wrong, that once the tummy heals you will slowly be able to learn how to read your body and understand when it is telling you you have had enough. :tongue_smilie:

I am 2.5 months into the six month supervised diet and know I will be having surgery in Las Vegas. I won't finish the diet until October but need to have the surgery before the end of the year to avoid possible cutting of insurance benefits, increase in rates/deductibles, new deductibles, etc. My question is, to all of you who have any experience at all with Las Vegas dr's, what was the pre-op/post-op diet like, cost, testing required before surgery (ekg, pulmonary, barium, sleep apnea, etc), follow up care, office experience, any mandatory weight loss before surgery that this six month diet wouldn't count for, etc. I saw the recent post on Dr Umbach, and he is on my list, which also included some info on other surgeons in the area, also on my list, but I am looking for a little more detailed info than what was provided in that post. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Danae

I'm sorry to say that I am on the losing end of this one as well. For the most part my husband is supportive, but he doesn't want me to have the surgery and thinks I can do it on my own. However, he has also let me know that most of his negativity comes from his concerns about my health during and after the surgery, finances, and his concern that I will lose to much weight. I have the same concerns about the first two and understand the third so I try to go easy on him, and ignore him when he goes into his "you are doing so good on your diet/excercise program you don't need surgery" rant. By the way I have lost 6 lbs in two months, yay, at that rate it will only take me 4 years to lose the amount I need to lose. Sarcasm intended.... I'm sorry you are going through this, it could be such a wonderful time for you both to grow and support each other. Low self esteem manifests itself in many ways as do insecurity and immaturity. Good luck on your journey and know that we will always be here with a shoulder to cry on, or hit, if you need to let go with sadness or anger.

I had this same question last week and got some wonderful responses. I have only been to the Dr in 2009, before that it was almost 7 years ago. I plan on sending dated photos for each year, a letter from my PCP, who while I was not a patient, did see me multiple times when I brought in my kids over the last 5 years and my beginning weight from my last pregnancy almost seven years ago. If you have been to the gynecologist that would work. Also, for my insurance at least, it seems like this is something that the insurance coordinator can choose to let be a problem, or not. So my advice is to get as chummy as possible with your insurance coordinator. I am on month 2 of my six month physician supervised diet so I don't have any real info, but these are the ideas I plan to use. Hope it helps and good luck.

Kim I agree actually, unfortunately, if I want the insurance to cover my surgery I have to comply with what they require. My insurance, as with most, requires a BMI of over 40 and I have heard that if you go under that while on the six month pre-op diet they will then deny the surgery. My BMI is 48 so I would have to lose over 50 lbs pre-op before that would be an issue for me.

kalew: Great idea about the pics, thanks. Not that I have many of those, lol, since I hate having my pic taken so heavy, but I should be able to find something. Kimmysil: The six month physician supervised diet is something my insurance requires, not my surgeon or Primary care Dr. I really don't know what they would do if I don't lose weight. I know the purpose is to show that you are ready to change your lifestyle and add diet and excercise. Without that the sleeve will eventually stretch and you'll gain anyway, so, other than the time it takes, which I am bummed about, it will be a good way to get ready for life after the sleeve.

No more philly cheesesteaks... *sob*
ImReady replied to ouroborous's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm not lucky enough to have been sleeved yet, but with me, I'm pretty sure it's going to be extra cheese pizza from Hungry Howies. Maybe one really, really small bite will go down and not make me sick???? Good luck and way to stay positive... -
Glad that worked for you. I haven't been going to the gym so that's not an option for me. I talked to my PCP and he says he will write a letter. I haven't been a patient, but he's seen me with my six kids and hubby many times over the last five years. Hopefully that will be good enough. Thanks for the response.

I am a month into the six month physician supervised weight loss program. However, I am afraid that when I'm done the surgery won't be approved because I have no weight history. I guess I am disgustingly healthy for a fat person, or just don't go to the Dr when I should. Anyway, I had to have a tetanus booster last year and that's it. My youngest boy is almost six so my pre-pregnancy weight from that would have been almost seven years ago, and I was obese then. Will this be good enough? Anyone have any experience with this? That's what I get for not costing the insurance company enough money up until now, I guess.
