Congrats on the surgery!
-
You have every right to speak to your surgeon. Tell the office you want him to call you.
-
You don't give any details, so I can't comment, but at least they were ON a list and not uninsured, or kicked out of the hospital for not paying their bill, or medically bankrupt, or refused care because it was "experimental" or because of a prexisting condition. You have to look at the big picture. I have never heard a Canadian complain about their health care, and I live near the border, so I talk to a LOT of Canadians.

I had a drain, but they took it out before I was discharged. It made my left shoulder hurt while it was in. The nurse said that was common as the drain "moves things around" inside. The pain went away when the drain came out. I was glad to have it because of the leak test they do with it.

How often did you change clothes sizes?
Donna4545 replied to lamsunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm starting out with size 28 pants, and after losing 30 lbs they are baggy, but I'm still to big for 26/28. I hope I can lose myself out of this weird baggy/almost a size down thing! -
Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Donna4545 replied to Bob_350lbs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think I'm having some kind of hormone/brain chemistry thing going on. I'm just not motivated to do the million things I need to do. I just feel like sitting in front of the TV, and I'm not usually like that. How long does this last? I'm 2 weeks post op. -

Ask for an Rx strength anti-acid. I'm taking Protonix 40mg. The pills are really small. You have gone through a LOT. Test and recover. Keep us posted! If you're still in the hospital ask for a morphine pump. There's no reason to be in pain. -
If you scratch the surface, the government isn't doing this to you--insurance companies are. If we had Canada's system this couldn't happen. Is Canada socialist? My students tell me no. So why would having their health care system, with which the majority of Canadians are satisfied with, "socialist"? The whole thing is ridiculous. The "reform" that we have now have some very good parts to it, but the parts that aren't good are a direct result of lobbying and pressure from the health insurance companies and the AMA. Put the blame where it belongs. If we had a single payer system this wouldn't be happening to you.

If Canada can do it, why can't we? I live near the Canadian border and teach at a university. When health care comes up: 1. My Canadian students think Americans are cold and selfish about the issue. Just because you don't approve of someone's morals doesn't mean they deserve to suffer and die. Even if they get high and have babies. They need more help, not less. 2. They also are extremely satisfied with Canadian health care, and it isn't true you have to get permission to go to the doctor, and you do choose your doctor. And the wait for elective surgeries is just a little longer than the US. Wait time is based on urgency, and doesn't apply to life threatening situations. Sicko is right on. It doesn't "support Cuba". Instead of believing Fox News watch it and make up your own mind. Every American should see Sicko.

Owww, painful esophogeal spasms
Donna4545 replied to Globetrotter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut said lots of people have trouble with scrambled eggs early out. I still think you should try clears, and then reintroduce the next stage--for you fulls, then mushies and see what you can tolerate. Good luck. And definitely if you have meds, take them! -

Donna4545 replied to Globetrotter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go back to clears for a couple of days and then gradually re-introduce mushies, being careful not to eat too fast or too much. -
I haven't noticed any of this, but I'm a newbie. For the record, I don't think that stating facts and opinions is "condescending". People should be secure enough in themselves to handle different points of view. I got accused of being "high and mighty" when all I was doing was using my 15 years experience in education to give a truthful, but perhaps unpleasant point of view. People need to man up and be able to handle that there are points of view other than their own. It's a question of insecurity vs. maturity.

Foodie Blog for pre-op/newbies
Donna4545 replied to Donna4545's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't start your pre-op diet until you have your insurance approval--you don't want to lower your BMI for that paperwork--they can use a lower BMI to reject your claim. If you're self-pay you don't have to worry about it. Good luck! -

The flavors are great--I have about 10 of them, including Egg Nog and Kahlua! My shakes are never boring. I also got some of the fruit flavors for a change. I'll be posting more mushies recipes soon--I'm still eating the ones that are already up there lol. I was really happy with the chicken salad today--omg there is flavor in the world! -
Just make sure you are following your surgeon's diet to the letter and don't worry about it. It will come off.

Wow-- I had no idea there was this kind of controversy around here. I'm a newbie so I guess I haven't been around long enough to see this stuff.

Susan Bordo's "Unbearable Weight" is a good nonfiction read about the subject.

Finding out how big my pouch is(n't)
Donna4545 replied to Donna4545's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just to clarify--I wasn't testing my pouch--it's just that the size became obvious since I was using a measured 4 oz portion. I feel like I can't interpret what true hunger is yet. -
The only person to fail at this surgery
Donna4545 replied to Lisalu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing fine. I can eat 1/2 cup mushies--it doesn't matter! Just move on and follow your doctor's diet. You'll be fine. -
