October Surgeries!!
SouthernSleever replied to tamboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm gonna fly in to SD cali on the 7th and my surgery is on the 8th. Are there no other Aceves patients going to be there at that time? I'd really like to meet someone while I'm down there. -
Which was worse getting the sleeve or having a c-section?
SouthernSleever replied to settebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow, my c-section wasn't all that bad I didn't think, so this will be cake (knock on every wooden surface, cross my chest, say a prayer to someone). -
I had a thread bookmarked that had a list of what to take with you for your surgery and also a list of items that you will need when you get home but alas I can't find it now. Are there favorite blenders? Shakes? What do you wish you would have brought with you for your surgery?

What to bring what to buy?
SouthernSleever replied to SouthernSleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got some gas x chewable tabs?? Will that work? Also I bought a blender at Target but now I read about the Magic Bullet. But YIKES it's 50 bucks. Is the MB that much better? -

Thanks for the pics and update. You look fantastic and I chuckle every time I think of your Mom accidently hitting you with her bag. -
Diet after surgery w/o artificial foods
SouthernSleever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a strong dislike of artificial sweetners and I try to buy whole foods and organic when I can. My question is how to do this when we are on this restricted diet. I'm also worried about not having any veggies/fruits for this first phase. I went to Earth Fare today and spoke with the woman there about vitamins and supplements. I bought some hair/nail/skin mutivitamins and also some kelp tablets as well as several packets of their brands of protein shakes. I also picked up several bottles of coconut water. So for those of you trying to avoid artifical sweetners what did you find helpful? -
What protein have you liked the best?

SouthernSleever replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm scheduled on October 8th and Nina has been very helpful answering my phone calls promptly as well as numerous emails. I've heard nothing but great things about Dr Aceves and his staff. I can't wait to be on my way! -

Update on Surgery against my Will
SouthernSleever replied to Carrie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
She might be dealing with issues and I get that. It isn't my place to come here and judge her or make her feel worse. Seems like a lot of ppl who come on this board and have a negitive experience are told to suck it up and move on. Some of you have had things happen to you such as MP8 and that's great that you were able to move on but to have someone do something to your body against your will, even if you agreed and set the actions in motions, is a violation of you and your body. I would never speak to a friend of mine this way if she were having a hard time. -
You can buy the crackers made from nuts instead of wheat and I used to make a crab spread with a few of those crackers when I needed an energy boost when nursing my little one. Hummus is good on them too!

Update on Surgery against my Will
SouthernSleever replied to Carrie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Go for it. I had an incident back in 03 where my Dr thought I was there to get pain meds so he refused to see my for the pain in my leg. I had and ankle break the month previous. My chest started to hurt and I called his office and then I could hardly breathe. He quit taking my calls and told me "If you are really in that much pain go to the ER" and I did. By the time I got there I was coughing up blood. I had a pulmonary embolism and he pushed aside every common symptom. I was in the hospital for 8 days after that and his nurse, the one who saw me in his office, snuck in and told me "If you want to sue, I will be there for you. The way he treated you was uncalled for and they have already ordered your records destroyed." So yeah, unless you take legal action some people think they can do whatever they want. -

Two weeks post-op enjoying hamburger
SouthernSleever replied to Big_Mike's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That might be true but that just means you have a longer staple line which can get food caught in it and cause a leak. I doubt your DR said it was okay to eat a hamburger this soon out. I'd take a step backwards and do just how your Dr says, you've done so much work so far why screw it up? -
Halfway and officially just 'Overweight'!

Need to vent
SouthernSleever replied to lamsunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your mom is just trying to make you feel bad and tell her they did surgery on your stomach not your head. Don't listen to her, you should be excited about going to full liquids and in no way would I sit with the rest of the family while they ate. -

Anyone with small children?
SouthernSleever replied to Samma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm right there with you as far as having small children. I have a soon to be 3 year old and a 5 year old and they climb and bounce on me all the time. I've already started steering them away from jumping on me. My husband and Mom will be here to help me out most of the time but if my little one does need to be picked up say to get in the car for example, I will take a stepstool around and have him use that. If he falls or something well, you bet I'm gonna be picking him up just being very careful about it. If you are part of the community in anyway, church or playgroups don't feel bad about reaching out and letting them help you. I think you may need someone to watch him while you have a nap from the threads I've read. -
There was a young girl at pride fest last year with an Alliance shirt on. I told her nice try but she got the wrong faction. She just smiled, probably thought I was a weirdo :001_rolleyes:
