Experience with flying home after WLS
SouthernSleever replied to HollyB.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A day before your flight call your airline and ask for a wheelchair and bulkhead seats. The wheelchair thing will get you to board first and if you do need a wheelchair (unlikely) you can get one. Also you will get a golf cart like thing to get you around the airport. Bulkhead seats are so roomy. Just tell them you had surgery and they will be accommodating. My flight home was MUCH better than my flight there. I drank apple juice on the flight and brought some of the spice packets from ramen noodles to mix with hot water on the plane and drink. -
Switching to Dr Aceves - Help!
SouthernSleever replied to NewLife2011's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I will tell you that I worked in the medical field while I was in nursing school and the private hospital that Dr A works out of is so clean. They follow the guidelines for sanitation to a T. All the staff I spoke with spoke great english aside from one guy on the late late shift who was a CNA. In my unpaid opinion he is THE BEST Doctor in all of the US or Mexico. I haven't heard one complication from him and I have been doing research for 6 months pre-op and I'm almost a year out. If any of my family wanted to have weightloss surgery, even my dear children when they get older, I will encourage all of them to go to Dr. Aceves. Feel free to call Nina, she can answer any questions or PM me. -

20 Mi Hiking & NO LOSS!
SouthernSleever replied to losingitin2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will see a drop your body is just storing up water from all that it used powering your muscles. We keep several pounds of water reserves and once they are depleted the body starts saving up so you are losing fat just not seeing it on the scale. Grats on your awesome hiking btw! -
Could use some encouragement

Walking and massage helped me a great deal. I also found that artificial sweetners made me gassy. You will get through this and let me tell you, it's pretty damn nice once you do. -
Woah! I remember your preop pics from way back. Girl you look fabulous! Congrats!

Did any of you ever wonder...
SouthernSleever replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still feel like this 10 months out. The scale will go up a couple pounds or I will stall for my normal 3 weeks and every single month, without fail, I think. Okay that's it now I'll start gaining back. Just a few days later it starts dropping again and voila somehow I'm down 100 lbs. Amazing how it works! -
I adore going shopping. I used to go and decide on what looked the least awful out of the tent shaped puffy painted gued crap they sell for plus sizes. I couldn't get an outfit for less than 100 bucks. Today I hit Jc Penny, Marshalls, and an second hand store. Left with 3 items for 40 bucks and I could have spent another 500 without blinking an eye. I look damn good in all of it too I love taking a bath and not touching the sides, the Water comign all the way over me. I love driving and putting my left leg up in the seat with me Crossing my legs Getting hit on by guys who wouldn't even look my way before. Eating small, girlie meals borrowing clothes from my skinny mom!

10 months out, 100 lbs down, with pics!
SouthernSleever posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is a xpost from the OH VSG Board. HI everyone! I finally hit 100lbs gone. I'm 3 days shy of my 10 months out and happy with my progress. I still have at least another 25ish to go and I've got to get my ass moving to tone up. I forsee plastics in my future the smaller I get. Probably TT and Breast Aug/lift but that will be at least 5 yrs later because of funds. To say that I love my sleeve is an understatement. To say that it's easy is both true and false. Because these posts helped me so much early out and still give me motivation I'll write some of my tips. It's easy and it's not. I thought having the sleeve I could eat whatever I wanted just smaller portions. The months I tried that my weightloss was very slow and I have to get this thinking back out of my head every couple months. Staying low carb is the key for me. I had a gain when I tried the chips/sodas/candy route. Even though I wasn't eating a lot of it, it matters and stalls out my weight loss. Eat under your sleeve. Get to know how much you can eat and have a couple bites under that. One of my favorite things about the sleeve is feeing satisfied and hunger. I felt before that I couldn't ever get that full feeling and I ate whenever. Now I only eat when hungry and listen to my body more. You will stall. You will. Chart it so you know not to freak and write annoying posts (like I still do sometimes). If you have a long stall revisit your eating history. WHAT is making you stall. Are you happy being this weight because your body decided it is. Beware of transfer addictions. I am struggling with smoking again and I'm always looking for something to transfer to like shopping, drinking, drugs. Know that you are an addict just like every meth user or alcholoic. No one continues to eat like we did without there being some addiction. This is something we need to constantly keep on top of. Support via forums or in groups is essential but watch because support of other addicts can turn into support of each other's addictions. Stay away from sodas. I've read countless threads about people who are at goal saying they have sodas here and there and then sure enough a couple months later they have gained. Enjoyyyyy life. I am. I love being hit on when I go out. Even though we have been broke, I love to just try on clothes and take pictures. I look forward to seeing people I havent' seen in a long time. For me, this is the first time I've been an almost normal weight since I was in Elementry School. Love your sleeve, love your self. The morning before surgery 100lbs down -

I TRIED to eat a baked potato today......
SouthernSleever replied to Texas Gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can eventually but I dont handle potatoes well even 10 months out. Potoatoes are straight carbs you would probably the same reaction if you ate icecream. I used to. -
Pre-op liquid diet worries
SouthernSleever replied to TexArkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dude, I didn't adhere to the sugar free stuff at all. I don't like chemicals so i used the 1/2 stevia 1/2 sugar stuff. Juice was a saving point for me when I felt faint. -

Feel Dumb for Not Having 'Food Funeral'
SouthernSleever replied to loribug's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I just noticed today that I have stretch marks on my arms, not the inside of my arms but the outside, right above my elbow going all the way up. Those popped up with the last 10-20 lbs I gained. Would they have not been there if I hadn't gained 10 lbs with all my food funeral? Who knows but the damage is done. -

10 months out, 100 lbs down, with pics!
SouthernSleever replied to SouthernSleever's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for all the wonderful replies. I'm seriously smiling from ear to ear I was in a size 22/24 and they were tight. The jeans in that pic are 11 juniors I wear a 10/12 depending on the maker of the pants. Size medium or large in shirts (depending on the boob area). That shirt, which i adore, wouldn't button in the boob area which is why you can see my bra. I think size 8 will be goal clothes wise for me. Pre op **** 10 months Pants 22/24 **** 10/12 Shirts xxl **** M/L Bra 44F **** 36 D Panties 9 **** 6 Shoes 10w **** 9 1/2 Reg I'm still pretty stoked about going to victoria secret and getting a matching bra and panties set when we have the funds. I've never ever ever worn anything from VS.
