Told a patient I had a VSG today....
SouthernSleever replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If someone would have shared their personal experience in a non pushy way I would have appreciated it. That's how I came to WLS. A girl on a game I played gradually told me about her experience with bypass and then a few weeks later I had a "Wow I'm so fat and miserable" moment and I started researching wls. -
Have the band... 6 mos post op and no weight lost. Really want the VSG..
SouthernSleever replied to blondeej's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Talk to Dr A about your issues and struggles and see where he leads you. -
You could probably do it as soon as you got home just taking extra care on incisions. There is always oral/doggie with pillows under your belly to help support your belly.

My goodness Dee Dee your baby pics are making me want another chubby baby to snuggle. She's beautiful. To the OP, I have no experience but I wish you the best in your endeavors. Parenthood is the single best thing that has ever happened to me even over my VSG.

Just wanted to send some <hugs> your way. I hope you have a quick recovery!

Is this Normal???
SouthernSleever replied to diesel66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
measure your food this early out. Your nerves are cut in your stomach so it doesn't really know when it's full. I don't think you should be eating string cheese either. Best of luck. -

NUT told me to eat tons of carbs...say what?!
SouthernSleever replied to Golden's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is some old school thinking. In fact, my nutrition book (as well as the food pyramid) say the same thing from nursing class back 10 years ago. I'd ask her if she has kept up on recent studies regarding how many carbs are needed to keep your body healthy and functioning. She may be a great nut but it looks as if she's not kept up with her education. -
Bariatric Surgery Do's And Don'ts
SouthernSleever replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great post Diva! I'd add, "DO keep a list of NSV (Non scale victories) to reflect on when times are getting hard. Can you walk up 2 extra flights of stairs before getting winded? Cross your legs?" and "DO NOT be afraid to change things if they aren't working. Stalls happen even gains happen. If you are on a long stall look at your eating and decided if changes need to be made. Utilize your tool!" -
Congrats! How's your belly look now?

$51,746 Forest Park Hospital Bill for 2 nights stay and NO COMPLICATIONS
SouthernSleever replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you already know this but what is bill is not what insurance pays. Say you are billed for 10k the insurance will usually only pay 20-40% of that. It's kinda like a sticker price but it's always on sale. -
Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?
SouthernSleever replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Food and Nutrition
When the kids have pizza I have wings or just the toppings off the pizza When the kids have spagetti I have just the meat with lots of melty cheese on top When the kids have sandwhiches I have the meat and cheese rolled up around some bacon When the kids have Cereal I have bacon and eggs or a protien shake Last night we had shrimp linguine and I had lots of shrimp in butter I love salads with plenty of dressing and chicken and bacon String cheese with a cracker or two Organic (they taste better) strawberries for desert Slim jims for Snacks Hamburgers with no or 1 part of the bun Soups and chilis Baby bell cheeses You aren't depriving your family when you cook low carb, they dont NEED the carbs, they are useless for the most part. Compare nut info for whole wheat Pasta vs reg pasta. They are virtually the same. The only good carbs are going to be from fruits. If you are anything like me what you don't want to deprive your family of is taste treats like Doritos or Ice cream or sugar cereals. The kinds with no nutritional info and the kind that tempt us to dip our hands into as we pass out of the kitchen. -
Low carb versus low calorie
SouthernSleever replied to Jensharley's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I listened to a great lecture about biology and calorie vs carb counting. We are eating the way our ancestors did, the way our bodies know how to work. If you are eating low carb it's probably meat (that you have killed) and veggies you have found with the occasional fruit in the summer when you use more energy. When you eat low cal you have settled down in order to process those grains. The humans as a whole haven't been settled down for long. Okay okay, this is getting wordy. Look at what happened to the Native peoples when they were shipped in flour and grains. They became fat and riddled with disease. By keeping carbs under 30g you are going to have rapid weight loss, 50-100 some weight loss, 100-200 maintain, and 200+ gain. That is just a frame of reference and I've found it to be true. -
What my therapist wrote on my psych eval for insurance
SouthernSleever replied to lovePINK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think any of those things will have an effect on your surgery but feel free to give her a call and express your feelings. Afterall this is YOUR life and if she isn't seeing something clearly I would show her I have the self esteem to say something about it. -
You weigh less than me and You better not weigh less than me!!
SouthernSleever replied to lsereno's topic in Rants & Raves
I don't know if it's that. My bestfriend has been a true friend. She was the only one who never said anything negative about my weight. She always said I was beautiful. We have been friends for going on 14 years. When we first met she was a size 4 and I was about 18. Now she is a size 20-22 and I am a 10/12. I know she is jealous of me losing weight, she hates being fat. I believe that she not only feels bad when we go out and she gets no attention (she used to get hit on constantly and craves male attention) but women have a social order that men don't. There is almost always the one female that the others protect, the queen bee to say, and now there has been a big shift in dynamics. I refuse to think that all my friends pre-op weren't really friends. It's kinda like what happened when I had kids. Friends who didn't have kids fell away and those who did became closer. I try not to take it personal and understand that me being thinner than her for the first time is very hard for her to deal with. -
How long of a wait for Dr. Aceves?

Beautiful! -
My belly is certainly a concern. I would love to get a TT and that would be the first pastics I'd have done if I had the money. For now I wear shapewear. I would probably be a good two sizes smaller if it weren't for my stomach. To make matters worse when I wear clothes without shapewear I look pregnant because of a fat roll that won't go away on top
-
I don't know. If I were you I would stay friends and see where that goes. I would have loved to be the size I am now and single, back in tha day.
