  1. Last evening, after visiting the chat room, I got up from my recliner and could barely walk. The right knee felt very weak and had significant pain. Oh S--t, I think I developed a DVT sitting in one position too long. Now what? With my surgery scheduled tomorrow I am worried it will be canceled by my surgeon. I will give him a call and see if he can get me in for an ultrasound this morning. I obviously hope it is not a blood clot, but I can not figure what else it could be except maybe arthritis, from being off NASIDS. I had a premonition that something was going to stop my surgery. I hope I am wrong. Has anyone else had DVT in the leg? Jerry
  2. Thanks for all the replys. I had to do a pulmonary function test today at the hospital, so I went by my surgeons office first, and gave him my signs and symptoms. He examined my legs, then referred me for an ultrasound. Great news I do not have a blood clot. So the surgery is still on for tomorrow. Bad news is I don't know what is causing the pain (which does not get better with walking). I assume it will eventually get better. I am glad I did the correct thing for my and the surgeons sake. Move over on the losers bench! JERRY:biggrin2:
  3. OMG. After reading about what you should do after surgery, I went shopping for Isopure, protein powders, extra strength Tylenol, pill crushers, SF popsicles, Crystal Light, a heating pad, and a Sippy Cup. Well, all I have to say is, I am going to die of dehydration if all my liquids have to come from a sippy cup. What is up with that, a micro-drop each time? I said to myself, obviously I need to think like an infant and treat it like a nipple and suckle. Guess what? I think I have lost the operating instructions for nipple suckling. I'm gonna die of dehydration. I don't suppose someone could send me instructions? Other than that, I am ready. T minus 2 and counting down. Jerry :thumbup1:
  4. Three more days of waiting and the time is passing so agonizingly slow. I have the final appointment with the Dr. and staff today where I assume they are going to read me the riot act about post-op behavior. Bring it on!! I will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to get rid of this insipid disease. Craftychristie is getting sleeved the same day. Continue to keep us in your thoughts until we can join you on the other side. Jerry
  5. Thursday, May 20th, is a big day for several of us that frequent the forum, CraftieChristie (and also for her husband?) and of course for me. Thank all of you for the posts to the forum, it allows me to see ahead the trials and tribulations, the rewards and punishments, the good, the bad, and the ugly side of bariatric surgery and particularly the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Being a retired military officer I have never shyed away from adversity but you ladies (and men) are an inspiration. You have faced your worse enemy and kicked its a--. I, for one, am excited about the prospects of success while being fearful of failure. Dreading the unknown but more that willing to take that first step. I know there is no turning back now and because of everyone here on the forum that led the way, I am grateful. Please keep us in your prayers or thoughts, there can never be too much of that kind of support. Jerry

    I'm so mean.

Yeah, save the kids for a final pre-op meal. Ha
  7. After reading the other responses I agree, things like the Vitamix are overkill. I have the mini blender and the magic bullet so it appears I am well prepared.
  8. The vitamix 2000?? is top rated in food preparation from what I have experienced but it is expensive.
  9. I must be crazy, I have an impending sense of doom, not about the surgery, but that ?will happen to prevent me from having the surgery. Nuts huh

  10. What is up with me? I am stuffing face like there is no next week (T-minus 6 and counting). Why am I trying to destroy myself here? If I have no will power now, what about after the sleeve? Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately in my case) I was not required a pre-op diet. Not to sound too dramatic but I am disgusted with my behavior. I try to rationalize by saying "this is my final hurray", or "this is my last supper". Today, I went to lunch, a buffet, with an old friend that I don't expect to be around much longer. He has in fact had surgery from past injuries in an airplane crash that removed more than half his stomach giving him a virtual sleeve gastrectomy. He is wilting away, and I wanted to see him before my surgery. But, I digress, is it normal to do that to yourself pre-surgical? Did any of you go out in a moment of weakness and stuff face knowing what you were about to face? Thanks Jerry

    Having second thoughts

I get sleeved on 5/20/10 my question is how do you know you have had enough to eat without going too far and getting the "foamies?"
  13. Hello, I am new to all this, but I do read a lot about the VSG. My questions have to do with how diabetes (specifically Type II solely on insulin) is handled after surgery? I am scheduled for the 20th of May but I still need more info from diabetics. Can I expect to come off the insulin? Do I still take injections but expect the glucose levels to be a lot less? Will I get low blood glucose symptoms eating so much less? Thanks for any replys. jerryvic

    Questions for diabetics.

Thank you Norma, sounds like you are doing the right things. Do you think you will ever be insulin free?

    Questions for diabetics.

Thank you Najarag. I know my blood sugars should drop, and yes, I would love to be medicine free in the future.
  16. Hi, Lily24 I am new to the forum but yes, I will be getting sleeved on May 20th. A little nervous but looking forward to it. My surgeon will be Dr Althar in Pace Florida. jerryvic
