I just wrote a blog about this! It amazes me how helpful this site is! It has already saved me so many times. I kinda feel like it is a life line sometimes, because it seems like I can always find answers or encouragment. Thanks! I am heading to order the books right now!
  2. This week I have started really thinking cooking healthy for my family. I grew up in the south, standing beside my Grandmother's watching them cook chicken n dumplings, homemade biscuits, pork roast and gravy, gumbo, shrimp stew, red beans loaded with sausage, cakes, pies,Cheese Cake and of course everything was fried. So I kinda feel a little lost, because I know that I have to change the way I cook for the health of my family.I constantly worry about my children's weight. I look at my Son, and he is following in my footsteps, and it scares me to death.I have been online looking at healthy recipes, but is it to late? The only way that I can get them to drink 2% milk is to pour it in a whole milk jug.My husband does not eat yard bird as he calls chicken. I tried to switch them to Coke zero, and will they drank one can and they never touched it again. So I have to basically trick them to eat healthy. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to switch a family over to healthy eating habits?

    30 plus days in hospital

I am so sorry to hear that you are having a rough start. I will be praying for a speedy recovery.

OMG!!! I can't belive this is happening!

Tiffykins is totally right about your taste, and your body will change as well! I always loved Gladitors from Smoothie King, so that is the protein drinks that I bought. No only did the smell of them make me sick, but they made me sick. Who would have thought it? I started not drinking while eating prior to surgery. I just order a water if I am at a resturant, and then put it in a to go cup when I leave. So good luck, you are making a wonderful decision!

    make room for me

Congrat! Just keep at it, you will be able to take more in before long. If you drink to fast, you will start burping or get the hiccups! It is kinda weird how your body gives you signals.

    This time it's for me!

I think that you are making a wonderful life-changing decision. I have degenerative disk disease in my back, and have lived in pain for years. I have to say, that I was sleeved two weeks ago and have lost 24 pounds. Just that amount of weight has helped my back so much! I will be praying for you.
  10. Thank you so much. They told me at the doctor that I was having lactose problems. I am fine now, I can tolerate it fine. I guess it just took my system a little time to get used to it.

  11. If you need any help, feel free to call me 601-772-9740, Im in my sixth week now. Im still learning, but glad to help share what I have learned so far. Congrats! You will be happy, I am so far, and havent met anyone who isnt. :) Sheri

  12. I need some help! I am one week post-op. I am trying to get my protein in, but it sends me running to the bathroom! I can handle water, crystal light, jello, popcicles just fine. I bought the gladiator from Smoothie King, and this morning I tried a clear protein drink from Bari Wise. The clear protein was so sweet I couldn't drink it, but it sent me straight to the bathroom the little of it I did drink! I am going for my post-op appointment tomorrow, but just was wondering if anybody else had this problem? Help please!

    Body Image

I think you look awesome!! Tomorrow will be one week since I had my surgery. I have been worrying about how I will look and had thought about starting to save for plastic surgery. My cousin had gastric bypass. She had all the extra skin removed from her stomach, breast implants, and had her thighs done. On the thighs, her surgery scars are on her groin. I noticed that most people that had the sleeve look a lot different from bypass. I asked my Doctor about it and she said it has to do with you skin type. Thanks for the picture, maybe I will be as lucky as you and not need the plastic surgery.
  14. I was just sleeved on April 26, I have to say Friday was a hard day for me. It was my Son's 12th birthday party, so I had all the chocolate macroons, cookies, cupcakes, sugar cookies with icing, turtles, chips and dip and pizza. It was really hard to drink my broth with all of that in the house. I have to say I got real depressed. Then to add to this I had my cousins Bridal Shower the next day. I started to think about all the wonderful food, I had ordered for this shower prior to my surgery. Well, I made it through Friday night, by reading some of the post of what people are eating after 4 weeks out, 6 months out, 11 months out, and it made me realize that this liquid diet was not FOREVER!! I felt a lot better when I weighted Saturday Morning, and had lost three pounds, I decided that I would get some sugar free gum for the Bridal Shower, so I chewed gum and sipped my water during the shower. I made it!!! Saturday night, we had a family party at the Mexican resturant for my Son, I took my jello in my purse, once again I chewed gum while everyone ate chips and dip. I did move the chips and dip away from me. When everyone's food arrived, I ate my jello. I just keep reminding myself, that this way of eating is not permanent, and thinking about the end prize. Today, I have a Senior Adult Luncheon to serve at Church, I have already have my broth ready. I pray that I will have the strength to continue being positive, but if I get discouraged, I know that this blog has already helped me through one hurdle!! I hope that things will get easier for you, I am a baby VGS, hopefully at four weeks, I will be able to come back to this blog and read all the encouragement and be able to get over my next hurdle.

Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??

I was sleeved by Drs. Moore, one of Dr. Lavin's partners, with Louisiana Surgical Specialist. My surgery was $13,600, but this includes a medical policy that covers any problems with your surgery, first year of appointments and one night in the hospital. Drs. Moore is wonderful, she takes a lot of time to answer your questions, and even took the time to talk with my husband who was not to excited about me having sleeve surgery. I am so thankful that I had the medical policy, because I had my surgery Monday, April 26, was released the following afternoon, only to be readmitted Wednesday morning because I had started vomitting. I saw Dr. Lavin, will I was in the hospital and he was very nice as well. So just make sure that you know exactly what you are paying for.
