    Knee arthritis anyone?

Thanks Tif, as usual you are a fountain of knowledge. Last year my ortho was telling me to try and "keep" this knee for another two years, but right now I don't think it will last much longer. I am afraid that once I have the sleeve surgery I won't be able to exercise because of the pain. I think I am going to try and make an appt. with my ortho and try a little cortisone to get me through until I can drop some significant lbs.

One month out --30 lbs gone!

Way to go swifty! I like the concept of upping your calories to prevent "starvation mode", so I will be watching you to see how it works out!

day 5 of my liquid diet

On day three, and I feel your pain. Chellebelle - Sonic ice is da bomb! I love that stuff! I froze some crystal light in ice cube trays last night so today I am planning to steal my daughters snow cone machine and make myself something to "crunch" on. Stay strong!

You tell it girl! Can't wait to feel that feeling
  5. Nothing in particular....I went for the seminar, did all the testing, told dr patel I wanted vsg, not lap band etc. Did the nut visit, psyc eval and all the paperwork. Told them that day I was self pay. He seemed to be leaning more towards the band, (which my insurance covers) and told be I could save the money and use it for my plastics afterwards. Didn't hear from his office for a while and when they did call me it was to say "great news! Your insurance covers the band!". So I kind of felt they didn't listen to ME. I liked dr patel, althoughi never got to the part where I ask him my "20 question". Not sure what his stats are for the sleeve.
  6. One day down, 13 more to go. Actually I am cheating already....I am out of town on business and "assumed" I would be able to get the two Protein drinks I like at the GNC here. Dontcha know they were out of both of them. I sm supposed to be doing 2-3 low carb shakes and 1 small low carb, low fat meal. So, I have been doing all low carb low fat meals. Luckily I go home today and have all of my shakes and food ready and waiting. This is gonna be a long two weeks! I gave found that crushed ice is my best friend. If I can crunch on that all day I am ok. Glad I am working at a hospital cuz they have the BEST ice! Gotta look for the rainbow in every storm! Have a great and inspiring day all!
  7. I am June 8th too! (in san Antonio with dr. Gonzalez). I don't have my preop until next Thursday and I hope all goes well . I would hate to get that close and then have something mess it up. I sm on preop diet for two weeks with the last two days being clears.
  8. Good luck with the study. I originally started this process last fall with nilesh patel in san Antonio, but did not have a great experience with his office. Currently scheduled with dr. JJ Gonzalez in SA on June 8th. Can't wait to get there, but I am starting to get nervous.

  10. Wow, that sounds like fun! I am not scheduled for surgery until 6/8, and I am down in San Antonio, but I would be willing to "make a night of it" for one of the July classes.

    June Surgery anyone?

WooHoo!! It's official, I got my desired date of June 8th!! 3 days before my 50th birthday! Time to kick into overdrive. I need to get all my post-op goodies since I will be out of town next week. I must confess, I am scared!

    3 months post op

Thanks for the post, I needed to hear that. I have been second guessing myself for a month now.
  17. I am not sure if this is really what I want to do. When I read on here about what people can and cannot eat, the foamies, pain etc...I think "what the heck am I doing?" Why can't I do it the "right way"? It seems like the only people on here are the people thinking about having the surgery, people waiting to have the surgery, or people that are rockin' or at least workin' their sleeve. Where are all of the other people? What about the ones that weren't able to lose much? The ones that are nutritionally deprived now? The ones that absolutely hate the sleeve? I think deep down, I don't want to give up my love affair with food. I love shopping for it, cooking it, and eating it. I will definitely need to channel all of that somewhere else..... Just rumbling and ranting and looking for reassurances.

Kicking my PPI - Day 7...

How many of you took an acid reducer or PPI prior to the sleeve? I am curious because I take a prevacid once a day now (pre-sleeve) and I am wondering if I am going to need to take it twice a day after. Should I try and wean myself off prior to surgery?

congrats Kalew you made it thru. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Robbiehage, you are doing incredible, I can only hope that I "work my sleeve" like you! The doc's office is supposed to call me tomorrow to set my date!

    Having second thoughts

I am still hoping to "sleeve it". Just waiting to hear from my dr's office and hoping I can get in in Early-mid June. Timing-wise that is what is going to work best for me.

    Having second thoughts

I have seen some posts from people who haven't lost as much as expected, or are losing slow, but I have not seen any from people who wish they hadn't done it (other than right after surgery . ). Is there a particular search that you know of that I can use to find those? I am more interested in why they think they shouldn't have done it...because they can't eat volumes any more, or because they have serious health issues. I think I was just having a moment of self-doubt, and my own private pity-party over not being able to eat like everyone else. I have moved on. I know that this is the right thing for me to do if I want to feel good again.

    Stomach stretching question

I agree with Tiff. From all of my research and what my doc has shown me, the tissue that remains (my doc uses a 32f) the muscle fibers run a different direction and are not subject to "stretching". That is not to say that you can't consume "easy" calories (liquids, ice cream..etc) that will cause you to take in more calories than you burn

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was having "buyers remorse" there for a while. Tiff, as usual, you are spot-on in your comments. I am not spiritual in nature, but read a post over on OH today that snapped me back into reality. I don't have to give up food. I can channel my love of cooking into finding ways to make healthy fare for my family (not that I don't now, I am a volume eater and a snacker). I will admit though, I am still going to miss my glass of vino while cooking (that is my muse)! Thanks again for the support everyone!

    Having second thoughts

I am so afraid that this isn't going to work like all of the diets I have been on in the past and that when I am old I won't be able to get enough nutrition in. I have seen so many people gain back their weight after losing it with the lap band. How is this so much different?
