Off to see the wizard.....
texaschick replied to texaschick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
thanks all. i am in my room, watching Oprah, eating ice chips, and doing good! A littile pain in the chest from gas, sore shoulder (?), but not too bad, of course still getting the good stuff! How are all the other June 8th ladies doing? -

I can;t wait until after surgery to try some exercising. When was everyone cleared? Can anyone recommend a good Zumba CD to try at home? (sorry to hijack - keep on sweatin'!) -
I can't even explain my emotiona
texaschick replied to Mommyof4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Tuesday as well. I don't have to do clears until tomorrow, but have been on a 2-week pre-op diet (sorta). I will be at the hospital at 8:30 so it looks like we are right around the same time. Good luck, God speed, and see ya on the other side (the losing side that is!). May your surgery be successful, May your recovery be painless, and May your weight loss be all that you hope it will be! Hugs! -

sunblock....too funny. I love your granny already! She sounds like an absolutely fabulous person and a beautiful spirit. if y'all get in a bind, I am over in San Antonio - about 2 - 2 1/2 hours away. I will be having surgery on the 8th, so not sure what help I could be other than moral support. PS - Wow! 30 pounds already! You are on your way! -

Extreme Gas Pains
texaschick replied to Happy Destiny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have, or have you ever had any diverticular issues? Sometimes pain in the lower left can be attributed to that. If the pain persists, you should give your doc a call. -
Quick question on PPI after surgery
texaschick posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I currently take a PPI (Prilosec OTC). I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday June 8 and my doc wants me to continue after surgery. How are you all doing with taking a pill after surgery? I just want to make sure that if I take it, it won't get "stuck" on the way down -or- if I should try and find a liquid version. -
Mommyof4, I feel your pain. I am June 8th also, but I have a pre-op diet. Have I been following it to a tee? Nope (go ahead and flame me). I know why we do it - to shrink the liver and make the operation easier, but I felt it was more important to have the right mindset going into this. I could not do two 150 calorie shakes and one palm-sized meal a day and be "right" mentally. That being said, I have been doing low carb and trying to see what it will be like eating 6-9 months from now. The first 3 days of low carb are wicked, but after that, my hunger really dipped. Maybe a shake for mid-late morning, a slice or two of deli meat in the afternoon, maybe another shake mid afternoon and then I try and cook a dinner that my DH and I can eat together. Tonight was chicken marsala with lots of mushrooms served over garlic wilted spinach. It was devine, and I am full! Prior to starting pre-op I have my chicken wings which I never really ate that often before) gyro, and of course my beloved french fries!, and I did it without guilt or remorse. Do what ya gotta do, get in a happy place, and i will see you on the other side!

32 French, "tight sleeve"
texaschick replied to Globetrotter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
32f (f is for french, which is a unit of measure, i believe) bougie is fairly common. That is what my surgeon here in the US uses too. -
Weight/diet tracker app for Itouch?
texaschick replied to SParkle's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I use Livestrong, it's OK, but I am presurgery and haven't been counting carbs. I haven't figured out how to get it to show a total carb count or protein count for the day. -
Post Surgery complications - who pays?
texaschick replied to texaschick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bummer, that stinks. What if I cut myself with a knife, they would pay for that....or I swallowed something, they would pay for that...doesn't seem fair. I am super concerned about incurring large medical bills from this, all in a Quest to be thin. I am having surgery here in the US with a group that is respected, but anything can happen -
Post Surgery complications - who pays?
texaschick posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week prior to surgery and getting nervous. Has anyone had experience with complications after being self-pay? Did your insurance cover them? If not, what was their reason for denial? -

I for one enjoyed your "potty humor". It inerjected a little levity into what can be a very trying and emotional time. Keep up the good work! -
I posted this on another board too in hopes that someone might have some info: I am scheduled for surgery 6/8 and I am having a really bad time with my arthritis in my knee (bone on bone). Anybody who had arthritis in the knee before surgery how are you feeling after you have lost weight? I am trying to decide what to do. I don't want to get a new knee until after I have lost weight, but not sure how much longer I can go on with the pain.

I'm in Freaking hell
texaschick replied to Phatcurves's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hang in there, this is a tough time emotionally. You don't need to end things, but you should put some space in between you and your BF for a while. Find out who you are, what YOU like, what YOU don't like etc.... Living on your own is wonderful! I long for those days (married with two teenagers ). I get a taste of "my time" when I travel for business, and boy do I LOVE IT! -
Knee arthritis anyone?
texaschick replied to texaschick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoa! Thanks chelle. I will try and tough it out. I had to stop my ibuprofen, so I can't wait to get some relief. -
If your insurance paid, do you know how much they paid for the procedure. I know it will vary by location, plan etc, but I am just trying to get an idea of how much the insurance companies are actually paying for the procedure. If it is less than what I am paying self-pay, then maybe I can persuade my physician to give me a better deal. If I pay up front why shouldn't I get the same rate as an insurance company? They don't have to file the claim, wait for the money, appeal if denied, etc...
-
Thanks all. I was trying to see if the insurance was getting a better price than the self-pay price, but it appears not.
