A question for those that are Post-op
breezy replied to AniO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great that you have so much support! I had a heck of a time resisting lifting weight when my beautiful grandgirls were standing in front of me! I just tried to sit down and pull them into my lap to resist the temptation! Be sure to stock a cooler with ice and your favorite drinks and have something with you to drink at all times. With hubby chasing after the kids, all you need now is a good book!!!!! -

Ok, now I understand. 60% of your stomach removed compared to 80% of the stomach removed in my surgery. That does mean that the restriction in how much you eat will be less. Keeping the carbs down is easier when you cut out the refined sugar and flour. I try to get all my carbs from fresh vegetables and a little fruit (one a day for me). I get most of my Protein from the whey Protein shakes and lean meat. And I'm doing aerobic exercising to get my heart rate up and SWEAT! I do want to be supportive to you. It's hard to lose weight. -
That is a cool "shout out!" I look forward to seeing my reflection and thinking it is someone else!

I love your updates, LapGirl! When I got my surgery done, I don't remember ANYTHING after taking the first medicine they gave me. So it's kinda interesting that you can tell me what happened! The lack of "pain" is amazing, isn't it? I did have a dull aching, but no real pain with the spinal. I'm so glad everything went smoothly. I'll be watching for your next post!

You sure brought back memories of my Mexicali trip! I even know where the pharmacy is! I hope you have a uneventful surgery. Keep us posted!

A question for those that are Post-op
breezy replied to AniO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's recovery is different. Mine was uneventful, but I was still low energy at 3 weeks and had to put a lot of effort towards getting enough fluids at that stage. But some members on the forum had a much more difficult time. Even in my case, I would have needed help. As mentioned, lifting is a no-no that you want to be careful about. -
It IS nice that you gave us your experience as a "long timer"! Would you mind telling us your before and current weight/stats? I'd love to hear more from you....but I understand time being at a premium!

I'm at a loss at how to respond, too! I've never heard of a surgeon just trimming down your stomach a little because you're not too obese and just need to lose a little weight. Ask your surgeon what size stomach you now have. That determines how much restriction you have. Let us know what he says. I'm curious if you've just mis-understood him, or if he really did just trim your stomach to "work with you". -
Many of us were given different guidelines by our doctors. Mine was 10 days clear liquid, 10 days solid liquid, 10 days mushies, then on to regular food.

WLS or relationship :( I may have to choose
breezy replied to AnonFemale's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read through the replies and I agree that moving in with your parents during the recovery period is a good idea. It will be much better for you to have someone who supports you and takes care of you for a little while. I also agree with the replies that suggest your BF is not the one for you. But I have to salute you for your courage in being so honest about things. I understand the ex scenario and why this BF looks SO GOOD in comparison. You must be getting healthier mentally to have chosen a better guy than the last one. I think you need to have a heart to heart with your BF. If he is not able to do that with you, you are with the wrong guy. Don't waste your young years on trying to make a relationship work. Let go and learn to love yourself. You WILL find the right guy as you learn to be true to yourself. The others are right, the right guy will love you and support you, no matter what! You deserve to find that. -
It's just the beginning of many more victories! Yeah for you!

That WOULD be frustrating! I don't blame you! It makes me glad I was a self-pay and didn't have to jump through any hoops for insurance.

Strangely energized. Related to this whole sleeve journey?
breezy replied to Catyroses's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had bursts of energy, too! It almost makes me feel like I'm getting a little manic! I've been doing yard work like crazy on the weekends and feeling like I've lost at least 10 years! The more I do, the stronger I get, the better I feel! I still feel tired sometimes, too, but I just try to pay attention to what my body wants/needs at the moment. Ride the high! -
I'm sorry to hear about the vomiting! Geez, that must have been terrible! No vomiting now that you're home, right? It seems like that must have put a lot of strain on your incisions! Glad to hear no leak! Take care of yourself and keep us posted!
-
I went back to work one week after the surgery. I would have liked to stay home longer, but they couldn't do without me. I have a desk job, too. The incision points were a little sensitive and I made sure to wear something loose around the waist. Besides getting tired quicker than normal, I did fine. I just took it easy in the evenings and didn't ask much more out of myself on workdays.

Glad to hear things went well. How old is your "little man"? I couldn't lift my grandchildren at first and they couldn't understand why, so I showed them my surgery wound bandaids. They became all serious and kind of shook up looking so I quickly told them (2 and 5 yo) that I had the doctor give me an extra belly button so I could float in the hot tub better! The older one still claims she can float better than me even though I do have more belly buttons!

Back to life, back to reality!
breezy replied to Souldancer's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome, Souldancer (really like that handle)! It's nice to hear that things have gone so smoothly for you and that you have people around who support you and even understand the surgery! That's something some of our members don't have. I'll watch for your posts to see how you are doing! -
That is GREAT!!!! I can't imagine how that must feel! I laughed when I read that it takes "learing" on a daily basis....then I realized you meant "learning"!

Supportive Daughter
breezy replied to Leave it to Sleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think my anxiety buttons were pressed when I realized the date was set. It was as though the negatives of having ANY surgery loomed large in my mind and I began to wonder if I should do it. Of course, I started asking myself why I couldn't limit my eating without cutting away 80% of my stomach in an irreversable operation and then started getting down on myself about my lack of will power. I experienced a lot of emotions that had nothing at all to do with feeling excited or elated, though they were there too, just speaking a lot softer than the worried emotions! -
Doesn't it seem like the surgery was a LONG time ago? My trip to Mexico is just a distant memory now! I wish I had done my measurements before the surgery. Isn't it great to feel like you have a waist again? I'm with you on the sleeping better and less pain in my hips, knees and feet. I'm interested in how your lifestyle has changed....do you mean mentally, or physically....or both? How has it changed for you? Any other April sleevers want to talk about lifestyle change? Mine is changing, too, and sometimes I have trouble wrapping my head around it!
-
Hi Gloria! I haven't had any medical problems with my sleeve, either. I try to watch the April Sleevers thread to see how everyone is doing. Congratulations on your weight loss! Anytime I can help, let me know.:thumbup1:

having my surgery tomorrow
breezy replied to kuwait sleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm looking forward to hearing how you are doing.... -
You crack me up, Tiffy! My husband and I feel like I am a different person every day! I kiddingly announce when I've lost more weight and then dare him to find where I lost it from! And YES, some positions are possible now that weren't before (my poor daughter, who also has the sleeve and is on this site HATES to get mental images like that from me!!!). I am also becoming quite the exhibitionist! I walk around naked A LOT more now! As I work at exercising, I'm becoming stronger and that helps in the sex department, too. And to think this is just ONE of the wonderful things about losing weight! Add better health, improved mood and self-esteem, looking prettier to the sex part, and I'm ONE HAPPY CAMPER!!!
