    WOOOWHOOO!!! One Week Out!

Good to hear you are doing well. It was great meeting you in Mexicali! I too am so excited to get to the full liquids stage with protein shakes. You did so much better than I did with the protein these first 10 days but I figure it's for such a short time so I just stopped worrying about it...a big burden lifted for sure. The weight is just dropping off and I'm so glad I did this. Take care, Ruth
  2. Just heard from Nina again... She says to fly down as originally planned and if necessary they'll put the 3 or 4 of us flying into San Diego tomorrow morning up in a hotel in San Diego. The Hotel Lucerne where Dr. Aceve's patients stay has no power and the hospital is using its' generator...they are possibly thinking of moving the surgeries to another hospital. She said when necessary she would help us to make flight change reservations from down there...to not worry about that now. Power is out in the entire city and she's hopeful it will be back on overnight. Going to bed...gotta get up at 4:00 a.m. This should be an adventure! Ruth
  3. To those of you scheduled for this week with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali... Here's what Nina just emailed me: "I am waiting for the Dr. to get back with me. Apparently we might have to push surgeries back one day until the hospital gets organized, they need to re-sterilize, the power is out tonight, etc. but I will let you know. He is at the hospital as we speak and I am waiting for information. We have 2 other patients flying in tomorrow and I will get back with you in case your surgery cannot be done on Tuesday so you can decide if you want to wait at the hotel here or move your flight back a day." Ruth
  4. So...I'm packing up for my morning flight to San Diego and then on to Mexicali for my sleeve op. with Dr. Aceves. I'm a bit nervous, really excited and now...a 7.2 magnitude earthquake there??? Come on! Called my 'fab' patient coordinator, Nina, and she's checking to see whether the authorities have to OK the hospital for re-entrance and I'm anxiously waiting for her phone call. Ya gotta love the drama! Ruth
  5. Tiff, You've been such an inspiration to me. I always look for Tiffykins posting every time I log on. It kinda feels like you're the 'mom' of this site. I have my sleeve surgery this coming Tuesday with Dr. Aceves and have sooo appreciated the information and insight your postings have provided. Your weight loss chronicled by your pictures is absolutely fabulous and soooo motivating. You ROCK! Ruth
  6. Hello! As THE day gets closer I'm more and more excited and nervous at the same time. I'm picking up my passport/cash/cashier's check tomorrow, I've bought all my groceries, for the first 3 weeks post-surgery and informed my doctor about my decision. She said good luck but then also said, "We have a surgeon here that does bypass and band surgery...just an FYI." It took all I could say NOT to shout out (on the email) "Are you kidding me?" :) I'm going to play it safe and leave a couple days of lesson plans in case I want/need to stay home the Monday/Tuesday after spring break/my surgery occurs. Hope all is well with your wonderful family, Vicky.

    Wannalise?????

I am soooo glad you are home and feeling better. I read your in-hospital post and replied to it but hadn't heard from you in awhile so was getting worried. So glad the nausea is gone also. I'm up for the sleeve on next Tuesday with Dr. Aceves. Keep us posted. Ruth
  8. I can't thank you enough for all the information and support you've already given. I know this is all just starting for me but I'm really glad we're going through this together.

  9. Hello! I have my sleeve surgery with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali on April 6th. I'm been reading his information which strongly recommends filling a prescription for Nexium Mups before leaving Mexico. (I wasn't able to locate them in the U.S. after a short Internet search??) It's a pricey prescription but I'd hate to be without it if I needed it. I have a recently-sleeved friend and she swears by them. I'm curious what some more post-op sleevers' experience has been with this prescription. Thanks!

    Help

I can't speak from experience since my sleeving is in a week but my friend Vicky who was sleeved by Dr. Aceves just in February told me she went through the exact same thing...a bad reaction to the anesthesia. She threw up for three days and they asked her to stay another day too. Now she is so happy and has already lost 40+ pounds but she DID say it was a really rough hospital recovery so you are not alone! Ruth

so i told two people today...

Hey Vicky, Check out my signature and ticker-thingy. I had soooo much fun personalizing it. Hope you are having a great day! Your 'loser' friend! :biggrin0:
  12. What a great support website! Although I'm not on the flip side of my sleeve surgery yet I have learned so much from the pre-op postings about what to expect and have enjoyed all the motivational success stories too. It just makes me even more excited to be on the flip side of surgery and start a very, very long overdue journey of weight loss. Better late than never... Thanks so much...especially Vicky! :biggrin0:
  13. I'm flying into San Diego airport from Washington State on April 5th morning with my surgery being the afternoon on the 6th. Is anyone else meeting the 11:00 am. pick-up to Mexicali that Monday (the 5th) morning?
  14. Great to hear from you, Kathy! When I check in for my pre-op tests on the afternoon of the 5th, I'll ask Nina how you're doing! My surgery isn't til the afternoon on the 6th like I said so I'll stop by your room to say HI! Congrats on the incredible weight loss so far :001_rolleyes: Hey...how do you make that ticker thingy appear at the bottom of your posting screen? (Brand new to the site today!) Ruth
  15. Flying to San Diego from Washington state on the 5th...was wondering if anyone will be in San Diego for the 11:00 am pick-up at the airport that day?
  16. Hi! My name is Ruth and I'll be traveling to Mexicali on the 5th with surgery on the 6th so I'm sure I'll run into you! This is my first post on the site also. I have a good friend, Vicky, who had the surgery the first or second week in February and has lost 43 lbs. in the 5 or so weeks. I took one look at her this past Saturday, heard her story (she had done a TON of research), and I contacted Dr. Aceves that night, got a surgery date the next day, made the plane reservations, and I am soooo psyched! I was going to wait to start the liver pre-op diet until a week before surgery but thought I'd just go ahead and get an early start. I'm 5'7" and recently topped out at 289lbs!!! I had my husband take my 'before' pictures last night. Yesterday I chatted with Vicky for THREE hours asking her every question I could think of and I feel so much better knowing more specifics. Never had any surgery before so am a bit worried but Dr. Aceves' patients rarely have, if any, the leaks problem you were talking about. Anyway...didn't mean to ramble on so much. Looking forward to chatting with you and meeting with you in person. I have my surgery Tuesday afternoon so not sure what shape I'll be in when you arrive but it's worth checking with the nurses re: my condition if you want to. Take care, Ruth:thumbup1:
