I lost my gallbladder back in about 95. I was the first person in the hospital to ever get to go home the same day I had it out. I spent exactly 8 hours from the time I walked in, had my surgery and left. Betty

They told me the Hospital has to be paid in full before I go. They said they have had a lot of people have the surgery then fail to pay so now they collect first. I ask if the Doctor had a pay plan, and he said usually not, but they might. So, I guess it is almost all up front. I even said I was hoping his prices had went down like the rest of them and he said the prices haven't come down. I told him that a lot of them have, and that they even cover the fills and checkups for the first year. No reply! I am so disappointed in this. I am still trying to decide what to do. I guess I really need to make an appointment with my Doctor and talk to him face to face. Betty

Well, I got a call back from the Insurance Dept. These are the charges: First visit - $232.00 Pre-op - $90.00 Sergeon fee - $5,000.00 Anestheologist - 1260.00 Hospital - $13000.00 to 15,000.00 90 day check up $51.00 - $162.00 band fill - $200.00 Floro - $100.00 I will definately have to talk to the Doctor about this. I sure was hoping he would have dropped some of the prices. At least I know my the answers to my questions now. Betty

I couldn't find one. He is with the UT Southwestern Medical Center. I can find a website for that but I can't find much more info except for the background on the doctor himself. I told them I would be leaving at 4:30, so I guess I will try early tomorrow morning. Betty

Snow is cold, slick, makes you fall, gets full of mud, (dogs pee on it), gets you stranded, and makes you wear heavy clothes! Ugh! People bitch all the time about it . (Just like me) Now, can you tell I lived with snow for most of my life???? The only time I like snow is when I am inside looking out! lol And just maybe, (and that is a real big maybe) I like it at Christmas. I will send you any ice/snow we get, and you send me the dust with all the sun! Then you can come over and I will share my pool with you since you will be cold! Betty

I have been doing a lot of research about the Doctors since I will be a self pay. Some of the Doctors around here are dropping their prices. I have found some for $12,900. that covers everything, including follow-up for 1 year with fills. Some are $15,000.00 with only the follow-ups. I think Dallas-Ft. Worth metro plex is the highest around though. I am still looking, it would be nice to find one that is close enough to drive to. Do any of you have a Dr. in the Metro-Plex? How did you like him? I am so looking forward to geting this done. Betty

Leatha - I think I have read your post 10 times, and it has made me cry each time. You have actually saved your own life. You are a miracle indeed. You have truely given me hope. I have read many articles on jogging, and they have said that brisk walking is so much better for you. You are already doing great. You asked where I live, I live in Grand Prairie, it is 14 miles from Dallas. I am between Dallas and Fort Worth. I am originally from Indiana. Theresa - I am hoping you get at least to the 50 mark this week with your WI. I love ice tea, so diet soda wouldn't be a problem for me. The only time I drink soda is if I have an occasional cocktail. Thanks for telling me your opinions about the band too. I left work yesterday to go home and tell my husband that I wanted to try somehow to get the band. When I walked in the door the garage was flooded along with the hallway/carpet. Our Water heater took a dump and it was a mess. Last weekend our pool and garage flooded from the rain and was all full of mud. We had to empty the pool out and start all over. I thought I better wait a few days till all this mess was over. In the meantime I ordered the book from Amazon that y'all suggested so I am looking forward to reading it. I am so happy I found this thread. You are all so awsome! I hope you don't mind if I stick with you till I see if I can get the band. I sure am addicted to this board now. Betty
