  1. What is wrong with me? I have been hovering g at same weight for about 7-10 days!!! I drink a shake for breakfast lunch and snack. Half a piece of salmon for dinner. Still not losing!
  2. I'd like to know if you all have set regular times that you eat or if you wait for hunger to eat. I know as time goes on hunger will return more. I have a friend who said it is important to eat at regular intervals and establish that early on b/c that way when you get hungrier you will already have habits set in motion rather than eating when hungry. Yet others believe in intuitive eating and waiting for hunger. Thoughts?
  3. Ok I started out at 417. Today I am 388. I had my surgery 6/28. I started out walking 2 houses and back every day. Each day I add another 2 houses. So I finally made it all the way around the block and it is a major victory for me!! Prior to surgery, I could barely make it up out of the chair and walk across the room. So for me this is a big deal. I posted it on my FB and next thing I know I have like 3 different FB friends telling me to slow down b/c I'm doing too much. I'm overdoing it. I need to let my body recover. I need to just take it easy etc. Really irked me.

Slow weight loss is getting me down

I am in depression because of this. Feel like throwing my scale out the window! !
  6. I am 25 days post op and I'm just not that hungry. When I do eat, I get horrible indigestion in my throat. I haven't lost hardly any weight in the past 10 days either. Someone told me that it's b/c I am just not getting in my protein, calories etc. I do fine if I just drink the shakes. I thought that for awhile I might just do shakes. But someone told me that it's bad b/c your stomach needs to get used to having real food in it eventually. I understand that but for now if shakes work for me then why not? Is it that big of a deal? other people go on liquid diets. Any ideas?

    Panera anyone?

This seems to be a great place to eat. They have the nutrition posted at least for calories. I had a half cup of the lemon orzo soup today. It was pretty good! Have you been and what have you found to eat there?

Are you Sure you don't want??

I've actually enjoyed this so far but I'm sure it will get annoying later. I ordered some chili at a restaurant and only ate 5 bites and was full. The waitress kept asking me if I didn't like it and she couldn't get it out of her mind. She said she couldn't see charging me for something I didn't eat so she took it off my ticket. She decided it must not have been good. So I got a free meal! The second time the waiter kept asking me what was wrong with it or if I wanted a box. I think it is the fact that I'm like 380 lbs and eating nothing. But for me that's an amazing feeling!!! I am so happy to finally be one of THOSE people that doesn't eat much!
  9. I'm currently drinking ready to drink atkins shakes. I'm getting bored. How magic is this magic bullet? Looks to be about 50 dollars. Should I invest?

    24 pounds down!

I had my post op appt today and was happy that I've lost a total of 24 pounds. I lost 15 of those pounds since surgery and the others I lost on pre op diet. Today I can have real food which is really exciting . I ate some refried beans watered down with broth (the dreaded broth). I melted some cheese and used a little taco sauce. That might have been a bit too adventurous but I did it. I ate it without any problems but it didn't seem that filling to me. Plus I don't like the 16 grams of carbs so I think I'm not going to eat it again. Plus the taco sauce is good but has 2 carbs per tablespoon and that could get out of control. It was super tasty though for having not had food in practically 20 days! But I'm throwing it out b/c I could foresee it causing me problems as I do love mexican food. Later I made 2 eggs in the microwave. Sat down and ate 5 bites and very suddenly a super full feeling came over me and I felt nauseous. I even spit out the bite I had in my mouth. I think the egg was more filling and I will stick to high protein low carb from here on out.

    Hair growth?

This is probably going to sound like a stupid question but I want my hair to grow longer and my hair dresser told me they have supplements for this that really work. I'm just wondering if I can take something in addition to the vitamins I'm already prescribed. Anyone know?
  13. I am on week 3 and just got my period. I didn't show a loss at all which is unusual and even went up a half pound. Really pissed me off!! I believe it's the combo of things though like everyone said.
  14. Anyone tried these and where from? I'm only 17 days out and missing my coffee like crazy. At some point I hope to be able to drink it again and I just found out they have some that have protein in them??? If this is true, then I will be able to drink my coffee AND get my protein at the same time. Someone tell me these really exist! If so, how long should I wait to try one? I was told to drink decaf tea instead of coffee for awhile.

That looks good but are there any without a lot of carbs?

    Post Surgery Protein Question

I am 17 days out and was told by my doctor to not even worry about getting in protein until I could actually have protein shakes and eat food. I'm in week three and just now looking at that as a goal.
  18. I think it's good to think about as a list and you're checking the box off. When you check off each box, you feel good about yourself! Plus the list is right there to remind you. It's really not that tough if you simplify it. My surgeon gave us the acronym of WEPNSS. It is water, exercise, protein, nutritional supplements, support group, and I forgot the last! To be honest I just worry about the first four. I do water like I did it in the hospital. I start drinking the first bottle as soon as I wake up and I have to finish it by noon. The second bottle I have to finish by 4. The next one before I go to bed. And it gets easier to get it down every day. I have a ton of atkins ready to drink shakes in my fridge. They have 15 g of protein. If all I did was drink 4 a day that would be my protein. But I drink one or two. If I eat something it's got protein in it and I don't stress if I hit 60 or 50. Maybe I should but I don't. As far as exercising goes, I do it first thing in the morning. Trust me I hate it!! But I just do it. I can go around the block now. THen I check off my vitamins too. It's as easy as checking a box and then I feel victorious! I also was freaking about stretching out my stomach with all the water but my surgeon said it won't happen. I think the key is to be sipping on it all day. In some way, the fear of stretching it out is good for me b/c it keeps me being very careful about not eating too much. Now take everything I said with a grain of salt since I'm only 17 days out of surgery myself!!! lol....But I know you are going to do great b/c you clearly care so much and are concerned.

what med did they give you post op?

I had a pain ball plus morphine every 4 hours. And I made sure to keep track of it myself b/c often they would not give it to me unless I asked. I took as much as I was allowed while in there regardless. When I got out they gave me loritab. Within about 5 days I didn't feel the need for it anymore and I stopped taking it. To be honest, I didn't like how it made me feel after a few days.
  23. I scramble an egg and it is super tiny. Maybe 5 bites. Is this right?
  24. My surgeon said I can eat eggs etc at week 2 post op but I don't recall ever being told how much we can eat and that is bothering me. What were others told? 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup? I don't want to eat until I'm full. I want to make sure I"m not eating too much

    9 days out and hungry!

I've been on clear liquids since 2 days before surgery and a 10 day shake diet prior to that. Technically I am supposed to be on clear liquids until tomorrow. After my post op appt tomorrow I will be able to move into Semi solid food according to my Dr. such as eggs and refried beans. So even though I am not technically supposed to do this I broke down and bought some creamed soup. I thought I was going to go insane!! I literally feared my children's lives if they stayed around me and I couldn't have something of some substance. I know I got like 80% of my stomach removed but the other 20% is HUNGRY. I suppose that is normal. Part of me says "See?? They took out most of your stomach and you're still hungry" but the other part says that it's normal to get hungry still. Anyway, I ate some cream of potato soup. I made it with water and not milk. I added an extra half can of water. I ate only the cream and not the potatos. It was probably the worst choice but man it was GOOD! My body seemed to handle it. I hope I didn't make any major blunders.
