    Sleeved March 18, 2010

Whooo HOOOOoooo! :scared0: So it was one week yesterday that I was sleeved and so far things are going along very smoothly. Yesterday I started my all-liquid diet (vs clear liquids) and managed to get in a 30g protein shake. Yes, it took me all day but I got it down! The thing I'm having the most difficulty with is swallowing my antibiotic. It tastes absolutely horrid! And because I can only take such small amounts of liquids in at a time (one small sip at a time), I'm struggling with this. I've learned to take a mouthful of something (not water), hold the liquid in my mouth, pop in the pill (broken into two), give my head a couple of quick shakes :sneaky2: (so my brain forgets where the pill is) and swallow. While it mostly works, sometimes it doesn't and one or both parts of the pill gets "stuck" in my throat. The taste! The taste! The taste! UGH! And then it's hard to take another quick swallow to wash it down. Before the sleeve I would have gulped 8 oz of water down and I can't! WAHHHH!!! However, I figure if this is the worst I've had to face then I'm doing pretty darn good!

    Just had the VSG!

Hi Dan! I too just had my Sleeve done (last Thursday - March 18th). It's amazing the different diets I keep hearing about pre- and post-op. I was on a clear liquid diet for three days before my surgery. I was told to continue that for one week after surgery. After one week (yesterday), I was told to start an all-liquid diet for another week after which time I could move to a "mushy" food diet for three to four weeks and THEN I could move to things I could actually "chew". And I have to tell you, I really miss the "chew-chew-chewing"! It sounds like things are going well for you. I wish you continued success!

    6 days post op

Hi fabfive! I was also very recently sleeved (March 18th - Whooo Hoooo!). I haven't had problems with liquids because when I first started swallowing I could, literally, only take in a tablespoon at a time so that's what I did...sip, pause one minute, sip, pause one minute, sip, pause one minute, etc. What that meant though was that I didn't think I was getting in enough fluids; however, since I was still managed to go pee at least twice a day, I figured I was doing okay. And then this morning when I woke up I had to go pee SO BAD that I knew my sip, sip, sipping was working! I started on an all-liquid (vs clear-liquid) diet yesterday and so managed to get a Protein shake down (took me all day but I did it!). That was the first protein I've had (30g) since four days before my surgery. So far I love my sleeve!!!

Changes....Random thoughts and a little rant

Shontel, what you ranted about is my greatest worry. At 49 everyone has ALWAYS guessed my age to be 15 to 20 years less my actual age and have (literally) just about fallen off their chairs when they hear I have a 28-year-old son. I always joked that my fat kept my wrinkles "filled out". I had my VSG last Thursday (March 18thh) (Whooo Hooooo!) and am worried that the wrinkles I don't have will now POP and I'll look my age and that I'll end up with "fruit roll-up" breasts that I need roll up to get into my bra! And like you, my husband has always loved bigger women so I can totally see myself in your shoes. Time will tell....
