    ketones

I went to my walk in clinic tonight because I thought I was getting an UTI. When they tested me for it the dr noticed a very high amount of ketones in my urine. He was quite alarmed even though I told him that I recently has WLS and that my diet has changed significantly. He tested to make sure I was not diabetic (I wasn't before surgery) and all was okay. At first I was alarmed by the dr and his concern but after reading some more about ketones it seems to be perfectly normal. I am eating a diet high in Protein and much lower in carbs. My body is metabolizing my stored fat (lots of it, haha) for energy to run my body. Anybody else have a similar experience?
  2. my goal is another 33lbs. Right now I am wearing a size 9/10 and mediums. It feels fantastic. Alot people think I'm perfect right now but I want to reach my goal. Its been a wonderful decision for me. I wish you much success and see you on the losers bench
  3. Congrats! You will love Dr. Pompa! I have been smooth sailing since March 7th (date of surgery) and all is well! I am down 58lbs to date! :cursing: Relax and enjoy your time there! HUGS!

    Sushi

I had it about 2 months after surgery. I LOVE SUSHI!!! We have a place here that makes the best sushi I have ever tried! Anyways.. when I tried it I could only do 3- 4 pieces and that was it. It was so delicious. I did want more but didn't want to push it. It's all good :laugh0:
  5. hey... found you! - Patty :) See you next week at support group.

  6. Yes, I went through Melanie and I was one of her first to be operated on by Dr. Pompa. I had my surgery March 8th. I am doing very well and energy level is good. Great to hear you and your wife are doing well. :) I'm sure we will keep in touch.

    One month out today

Congrats on the loss. Men tend to always lose faster than the women. I dreaded that 3 week stall and I seemed to be at it for 2 weeks. I lost 25 the first 2 weeks then stalled for the next 10 days. But I noticed during that stall that I was still sliming down. I was losing inches for sure. I am down 32lbs in 40 days since my surgery. Also congrats on your exercise and biking that much. Keep going! Yesterday I went shopping and bought my first pair of smaller jeans. I even bought them a little bit snug cause I know in a couple weeks they will be looser!!! Thats a nice feeling. Also this morning my youngest son came to give me a hug goodbye as I left for work. He turned around and said.. HOLY mom you are getting thinner! I see it! WOW! did that feel good! I phoned my hubby and told him that whatever my son wanted this weekend he could have... he just went number one in my books Keep going and all the best to you Russ!
  8. Dr. Chrisian is the night doctor. He so very nice and talkative with each patient. I truly enjoyed my experience at Dr. Pompa's surgical centre. I had my sleeve on March 8th and I am doing very well. I have not had the drop in energy nor does it feel like I've missed a step since my surgery. I have lost 30.8 lbs since my surgery. I notice my clothes feeling different and already have dropped a couple sizes depending on the brand of clothes. This was a great decision and I look forward to the rest of the weight melting away. I still have another 60lbs to do but I know with my weight going down each day I am going to enjoy my summer! Cheers!
  9. Congrats on your decision for your sleeve! I am from Prince Albert and noticed by your name that you must be from Saskatoon. I too was sleeved on March 8th by Dr. Pompa. She is amazing and would highly recommend her clinic. I am doing very well since my sleeve an to date I have lost 30 lbs in 33 days. I didnt measure my inches lost and now I wished I would have cause it is really noticeable especially around my abdomen.

I just wanted to connect with a fellow sleever that is close and support each other if you want. Keep well and I look forward to hearing about your progress. Cheers!

  10. I had my surgery with Dr. Pompa and it was a fantastic experience considering it was surgery. The entire staff speak excellent English so communication is not an issue. Dr. Pompa is extremely qualified, very professional and compassionate. Please take a look into Dr. Pompa and her clinic. First night you stay at a 5 star hotel in Tijuana which is adjacent to the Clinic. Then you spend 3 days/2 nights in the clinic and then 1 night back at hotel, you check back in at clinic for dressing changes and vitals then you are released to go back home. They have a nutritionist as part of their staff who you can contact at anytime. Also they ONLY book 3 surgeries a day. I know other clinics are booking more than that. Again, being able to communicate with no worries is worth a lot in my book. I know I check into Dr. Almanza and not all his staff speaks English and communication is an issue. Wish you all the best!.

Anyone planning surgery end of April in Mexico?

I was just sleeved on the 8th with Dr. Pompa in Tijuana. You can check out her clinic at Medical Weight Loss Surgery Center - Improve Your Health!. It was an excellent experience considering I just went thru surgery. They pick you up at the San Diego Airport and it is a short 20 min drive to the clinic. The staff ALL speak excellent english and are very attentive. They ONLY do 3 surgeries a day. There is a doctor who stays overnight - not a nurse. Always a doctor and a nurse on duty during the day and there were only 3 patients. Whenever I needed medication, I was promptly attended to. The entire clinic facility is clean, modern and very organized. I also liked that we had a nutritionist as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Pompa and her staff. The super bonus was that never having a communication problem with the staff as they all spoke excellent English. Check out the website. You will be impressed!

    Is this normal?

I sure hope you are trying to get all your fluids in. Sometimes a sign of dehydration is vision problems. Please Please Please make sure you are getting your fluids! I know it is very difficult but always have a water bottle or vitamin water with you and sip, sip sip! I too just got my sleeve on Monday and I am doing very well. I have to make a decision to eat cause I don't feel hungry. And you probably never will feel hungry because the ghrelin which tells your brain that you are hungry has been removed.
  13. Hi... I just want to let you know that I just had my surgery yesterday by Dr. Pompa. She is wonderful. The entire staff here is amazing. It is very nice that all of them speak excellent to good english. My surgery went well. I was quite nauseated yesterday but am doing very well now. I am quite tender but getting around. The facility is fantastic and I highly recommend it. I will probably see you today in the clinic! All the best! :001_unsure:
  14. I leave today and will be in San Diego tonight. Tomorrow is my surgery. It seems so surreal as it hasn't quite sunk in yet. Its difficult for me to think about being skinny again and thinking that it is going to happen. That this summer I could be wearing a bikini! I currently weigh 230 and I still haven't fully decided on my goal weight. I was at 145 4 years ago. I had lost the weight with Herbal Magic. I loved how I felt and looked when I was there. I am thinking that anywhere from 135 - 145 I would be happy with. I guess I will see when I get there and how I feel when close to my goal. Cheers!! :001_tt2:
  15. good to know all is well! I might see you there as I fly in tomorrow. My surgery is on Monday with Dr. Almanza. Cheers!
  16. I did my research, talked with my hubby and decided that I would do the VSG. I leave on Sunday and last night I discussed with my oldest (12) that I would be going away next week. Needless to say he was quite concerned about the surgery and very worried. I went over everything with him and said it is very safe. I talked alot about the health benefits. He also says that I am perfect and he doesn't want his mom to change. Its breaking my heart because I want this so bad to be skinny again. But it is difficult to discuss with my son the internal struggle I deal with every day that I have never let him or my family see. Does anyone have any suggestions in discussing with their family (especially children), reassuring them about the procedure, and long term health? Its breaking my heart cause I dont want him to be upset and worried.

    telling family (kids) about surgery

Just an update. He is doing much better about it all and this afternoon was quite supportive of the procedure. I picked my kids up after school today and sat down with both of them to talk about it all together. My oldest had some time to accept it and feels better about it all. My youngest is so easy going. He had a couple questions and all is good. They just want their mom to be happy, healthy and safe.

    looking into VSG...

HI! I too am quite excited about going for my sleeve. I booked mine 2 weeks ago and I leave on Sunday to see Dr. Almarez. He did my sister in laws lapband and four of my friends sleeve's. He is highly recommended by all of them for his care and attention. I can hardly wait to feel skinny again and know that my weight will never be a struggle again. I know this is the right decision for a lifetime of happiness. I am looking forward to summer and excited to get into a skimpy little swimsuit! I did a lot of research and found a local business here in Canada that works with Dr. Almarez before I made my decision. They have been so informative and supportive throughout the decision process. I wish you all the best!
