my one and only fear/question re sleeve...hi, im new here.
SParkle replied to NY Lou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI and welcome I also wasn't looking forward to the social part of it.... but figured what did I want more. So far we've not been out yet, but I'm not even on full liquids, but on my pre op we had guests staying and I fed them and also we went out and I just made my excuses food wise.... I've not been really hungry since my sleeve, and being around food it ok for me, but I know in my head I have no choice now. You can still eat, but it'll be smaller portions than you used to, which you can explain by saying your diet requires it - hence explaining your weight loss..... Good luck Kathy -
It is amazing around there.... we know 4 people who have done it, and its easy walk, plus the terrain isn't flat by a long shot. We travelled up that way 2 yrs ago and its such a beautiful area, although 2 of our friends are doing it as we speak and its been raining almost the whole time, unusual for this time of year for them. You must do at least the last 100km walking to get your certificate, but other than that can choose if you want to go any further. Those that we know who have done it have described it as a life changing event. Kathy

Good to see your story.... you got the lung ball thing too.... I felt really silly having to keep using it, but it did help! My hubby wanted me to bring it home, said we'd paid enough for it!!! And at least you've sorted out the itch - that must be such a relief for you....take it easy and you'll feel so much better each morning. Take care - Kathy

June 2010 Sleevers...JUMP ON BOARD THE LOOSERS WAGON!
SParkle replied to mp8btpc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Judy You're right - we're about 1hr15 south of Valencia, which is such a fab place. Yes my surgeon was Spanish and although he speaks a little english I did most of it in Spanish - we've been here for 7 yrs now and love it. like you I prefer to get things like this sorted out in my native tongue as although I am good I am not fluent so its much easier for me. Each day I feel so much better, and the next 2 weeks will fly by for you. How long is your pre op for? Good luck - keep informed and let me know how you get on, but if I can help at all then fire away!! Kathy -
Hi Terri
Good to have you back hun....getting up and about - love your description of brutal - its spot on!! IT does get easier every day....honest!! I'm still winded quite a bit and swollen like a baby hippo, but feeling so much better at I'm only on my 6th post op day.
Just got back from my post op and he was happy.... can stop taking pain killers except when required, and can split my Nexium tabs in 2 and swallow now - which I just have done and it was ok, better than grinding them and tasting the bitterness!!
Hope you got your scratch sorted! Lol.......
Keep me informed babe.....
Meant to ask your sig - I presume one of your kids is in a band? My hubby is an entertainer/singer/sax and harmonica player over here in Spain.... so he's not too happy his roadie is out of action lifting stuff for a while!!!
Take care
Kathy

June 2010 Sleevers...JUMP ON BOARD THE LOOSERS WAGON!

12 days out and no restrictions???
SParkle replied to Mommy4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only echo what the others have posted, and ask did you not get a post op diet from your Dr? It takes me about 45-50 mins to get a Protein shake down me and I daren't even swallow my Nexium, let alone debate taking a bite of something.... Please do be carefull - your staple lines need time to heal before you start to advance in the food stages.... I think I read somewhere that the first 2 weeks are the worst time for leaks, so maybe you want to go back to mushies or even full liquids and check with your DR before advancing too much too soon. Kathy -
I gained about 2 inches around my waist in hospital and still can't get some trousers on... favouring stretch stuff instead. How normal is this... and when I can expect it to go......I'm loosing weight, and my temp and blood pressure are fine, with no other way out symptoms at all..... so figure its just my body reacting to it all. Kathy
-
Glad to know I'm not the only one... thanks to all for the replies. I can't get into my normal trousers, still too tight, but the stretch ones are ok for now... Have my post op today so will get it checked out anyway by Dr. Kathy

I'm sleeved and I'm home !!!!!
SParkle replied to BandMomsRock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome back!! Lucky you only 3?? I have 5... and had a drain in there which was taken out before I left. But i think they'll heal with virtually no scarring so not too worried about them. (Plus they'll add character to my 6 pack in a years time!!! :lol0:) Take it slow... and I promise it gets better every day. Kathy -
Good to have you back! Allergy is a possible..... check all your meds, or how about the anaesthetic? Thats has to work out your body..... I know my skin goes really dry which I can only put down to that and the air in the hosp. I took a massive jar of body cream with me to cope with it and have been ok. Good luck and don't scratch too much!! Kathy
-
Hi there and welcome to the board. To me it sounds like the NHS are being very cautious on the weight loss predicition ... but it may also be that the VSG isn't that well known in the UK..... I got quotes from the UK and here in Spain before going ahead, and not that many places were willing to do it. Do ask at your consult when you see them.....and they'll be able to give you a more accurate idea. Good luck - and let us know how you get on with it. Kathy
-
Hi and well done on joining us on the losers bench! i was done the day before you and am still on clear liquids (days 1-9post op) and then full liquids (days 10-20) then mushies....so maybe you're putting yours thru too much too soon. The first 2 weeks is the really delicate time when leaks may occur... (although I think most happen with in the first few days) so you need to gradually get your stomach used to the different food groups. Did you get any nutritional stuff from your dietician? If not then thers quite a few versions of post op diets on here which are well worth a look thru to give you a good idea. I also get the bubble thing, and it take me about 45mins-1hr to get a Protein shake down - i put the pain down to either acid or just the liquid waiting to get thru my stomach......but some of the more experienced maybe more help on that one. Anyhow---speedy recovery and take care Kathy

Good luck Monie - well done with your weightloss so far and keep us informed as soon as you can. We'll be thinking of you Kathy
