I was banded a year ago and I am doing great! However, i recently had some blood work done during a health fair and some of my lab values showed that i was iron deficient. I know that it is becuz i dont eat enough protien. And yes, iron defiency can make you tired, cold, among other things. My doctor suggested i take an iron supplement. Multi-vitamins also have iron in them but i havent been real good at taking them in the past (shame on me). I know a dietican at work and she also suggested eating iron fortified cereals as a small snack.

Give me the total scoop on getting banded in Mexico???
wyobandster replied to mrucker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there Misty. I had my band put on in Mexico by Dr. Kuri a little over a year ago. I had a wonderful experience there and have no regrets. My insurance didnt cover banding so I had to self-pay for mine, which is why i chose to go to mexico. It was $7,500 which is quite a bit lower than doing it in the states. Dr. Kuri was very competent and knowlegable. He has done many many bands and has trained other physicians in this surgery. The hospital was very modern and clean. Nursing staff very kind. Lanuage barrier wasnt a huge problem either. I love my band and would do it all over again. Good luck. Oh and about financing .. We ended up putting mine on one of the low interest credit cards but yes, i think they did offer financing. -

I too have had a great experience. I was banded a little over a year ago and have lost almost 80 pounds so my weight loss has been a little slower than yours. I have absolutely no regrets and would do it all over again! You go girl! -
Hi there! Well, I can tell you that I had my band put on a little over a year ago and i love it. I have absolutely NO regrets! I am very glad i did it and if i could go back in time .. i would do it all over again! I have lost almost 80 pounds and would like to lose 20 more. And yes, i know there are horror stories out there but I am living proof that they do work and like i said .. i have no regrets. Sure, everyone will have their ups and downs ... but im totally happy that i did it. Good luck!

I agree with the others ... weigh only once a week or you will drive yourself crazy. I think we've all learned by experience. And trust me, i know how depressing it can be when you gain a few pounds .. and very discouraging. Keep up the good work .. it will come off eventually. My weight loss has also been slow but as long as it keeps coming off .. you will eventually make it!

Hi Mimi, I too have yo-yo dieted and I received my lapband a little over a year ago. I was also a self-pay and I choose to have my band in Mexico with Dr. Kuri, becuz it was quite a bit cheaper (7,500). Some people hear the word mexico and freak out ... I had a great experience there. I know many people who have gone to Dr Kuri and everyone said the same thing. He was a wonderful doctor and the hospital was very modern and clean. I have no regrets getting the lap band and no regrets about going to mexico. Good luck ... you will be happy you did it .. i know i was! -
is anyone so tight they can't drink in the morning?
wyobandster replied to Yvonne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I notice a huge difference between what i can eat/drink in the morning versus the evening. In the morning, i have to drink everything really slow becuz its so restricted but then by evening i can eat and drink a lot more. (which isnt neccessarily good either :biggrin2: ) -

Hi there. I had a similar problem a couple of months ago. I went and had a fill and before I even left the office, I wondered if it was too tight but the nurse practitioner told me that it would be fine. During the weekend, I couldnt even sleep becuz I would wake up in during the night chocking and gagging. I literally couldnt swallow my own saliva at night. And during the day, I couldnt drink even water. I was a little scared! My fill was on friday so I couldnt get ahold of anyone until monday .. but I went back in and had some taken out. It made a big difference. So, yes you can definately have too much in a fill .. even .2 ccs can make a difference! -
Hi all ! I just joined the bandsters group last week. I went to mexico and had Dr. Kuri do the surgery. It was a wonderful facility and he was a very good and kind doctor. I have only lost 2 and half pounds. Two of the other people that were banded same day have lost 12 and 13 pounds in same time frame so im kind of discouraged! Oh and hungry!!! After a week .. liquids leave something to be desired lol .. as im sure you will all agree . My stomach still feels really bloated and tight ... i assume this is normal??
