I had many of the same issues and it definitely helped to drink my liquid warm. This caused alot of burping but made me feel better because it relieved some of that gas pressure that was built up in my esophogas and stomach. Chicken bouillon made me feel the best. This does get better with time but I still have this experience sometimes. I have this constant feeling of needing to belch but nothing comes up but Dr. Aceves said this will go away around the 3 month mark. The best thing I can tell you is just keep trying different types of liquid until you find something that will go down easier. I certainly cannot do plain water and still have a hard time with crystal lite in plain water. I did go see my PCP about 2 weeks out and she said it was a case of gastritis. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are feeling

Eyes Still Bigger than My Stomach
katldy replied to FreeToBeMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well its certainly nice to know that I am not alone. I thought maybe there was something wrong with me because I constantly feel as though something is caught in my throat after I eat, even if its not 2oz. I am just now on mushies and everything that is not yogurt makes me feel this way. Is this because I am eating too much? I often feel as though I need to have something to drink right after cause its caught in my esophogas but maybe I just need to not eat so quickly or chew better or not even eat the 2oz. Everyone sure is right though about sometimes it tastes so good that you don't want to stop. Does anyone know if string cheese counts as a soft food or is it a solid? -
I have not had any regrets either. The hardest thing is to judge when to stop eating. I too still struggle with the whole 2oz thing. If its 2oz on my plate than I feel as though I should eat it. I have not gotten sick yet but I have been uncomfortable and felt as though I was going to be sick. I miss the flavor of lots of foods but I am still on mushies and looking forward to when I can taste real solid food. I don't miss eating alot just savoring the flavors, if that makes sense

Anna, I had my surgery with Dr. Aceves and had the same exact issue. I promise you that it does get better and they are doing everything they can to help you keep something down. The second day was the worst and all I wanted was for them to put it back because I was so tired of the dry heaves. It is absolutely horrible but you WILL be able to keep something down soon. The only thing that I could keep down was the chicken broth before I left. I know that you are afraid but just keep trying cause the sooner you keep it down than the sooner you get to go home. Please keep us posted and let us know when you are home. The extra day will only make the flight home a little easier.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long you need to wait after surgery to partake in an alcoholic beverage? I am also looking for any advice on what would be the beverage to have. My family is having a surprise party for my mom the first Saturday in April and I know that there will be some alcohol. I don't really want to drink alot but I know it would look funny if I didn't have at least on drink. By this time I will almost be one month post op, so I am thinking it will be ok but thought I had better check. I am also making sure that my Aunt is having something on the menu that is considered the mushy phase since I can't have solids for at least one month after surgery

My first "bad" experience
katldy replied to Grateful Heart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how this feels because I can't seem to stop doing it. I am constantly forgetting and than I have this bubble that just sits at the top of my throat. It is very uncomfortable. I don't know why my brain can't get the hint everytime I take a pill. It's very frustrating -
Sitting in the airport!
katldy replied to wannalise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will have a really great trip. They are the best! Please let us know when your up to it and just remember that it gets better everyday. I was so thankful that I had Dr. Aceves's staff to tell me that  -
how do you feel while eating?
katldy replied to johan22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is really good to hear since I feel the exact same way and I haven't even gotten to the mushy stage yet. I feel this way even when I am eating soup. It's like something is gets caught with a big air bubble about half way down your throat. It's so bizarre feeling -
Thanks for all the really great advice. Dr. Aceves said at one month out but absolutely nothing with fizzies such as beer or club soda. I was thinking maybe some vodka with diet tonic water. That way I can just put in a tiny amount of vodka and who will know. Good to know about the martinis though because I sure do LOVE them.

Make a room on the loosers bench for meeeee!!!!!!!!
katldy replied to tia_1417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OH Tia....that sounds horrible and I can definitely commiserate. I also know how good that broth tasted when I could finally keep something down as well. Welcome to the losers bench! -
Teresa, I just had surgery and had to fly home as well. My total flight time was around 8 hours and the only thing that I wish I had done was fly first class on the way home. I did not need any pain meds and the only discomfort I really felt was some gas pressure. I have to say though that if I had waited that extra day and stayed in San Diego, than I may have felt alot better flying on Friday cause I felt really good on Friday. The time change also really got me flying home as well, so I was really tired. Since you can't leave until 1pm from San Diego, that put me back in KY at around 11:30pm that night.

So I am here in Mexicali and got sleeved yesterday. First day was great but second day not so good. Sip walk sip only works if you can keep the liquid down and you don't get nauseas every time you walk. I"m hoping for a better day tomorrow

Breeka and Stuck, I will be thinking of both you this week as you undergo your surgeries. We all have the same fear especially when its elective and if you have kids but we also can only hope that we are doing the right thing for our families by becoming healthier. My son is 18 now but I still had the same fears. There still your baby no matter what age they are. Please keep us updated as to how you are doing.

Anyone planning surgery end of April in Mexico?
katldy replied to Sleeved and Relieved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery with Dr. Aceves on Monday the 8th and would definitely recommend him to anyone who is going to Mexico. Hey Windsor...What room were you in? I walked the halls often with someone who was from Virginia and I agree with your assessment of Dr. Aceves and Campos. Everyone was very attentive. -
I had my surgery this past Monday as well. I have been keeping something to drink with me at all times and I am actually now able to drink about 50oz in a day. My issue is getting in all the protein. I just can't seem to get it all in and it seems as though I am having some issues digesting it. I have already had to take 3 immodium today. I certainly don't want to loose the liquid I am trying so hard to intake. My stomach also still gurgles with everything I intake and I occasionally get sharp pains from the gas still stuck inside the tube. I do really well with warm liquids and absolutely love broths. I also really like to mix my protein with powerade zero. I have found that I also don't have much tolerence for plain water anymore and I loved to drink water prior to surgery. I am having some head hunger. There are some foods that my head is really craving but I just try to stay busy or walk, so I don't think about it.

I just had my surgery with Dr. Aceves this past Monday and I found the care to be impeccable. I was so thankful to have those 4 days in the hospital and the facility is very clean. The nurses are all so friendly and both Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos come by to see you multiple times a day. BTW Dr. Campos is getting married next weekend. They are all really great people and you can tell that they truly love what they do. Even my husband commented on the type of care that I received there versus the care that I got for my hysterectomy in the US. You have to remember that there practice is solely built on word of mouth, so it is important for them to provide better than standard care. The only thing I didn't care about my experience was the flight home.

Linda, I can't not have imagined going home the same day. I had my surgery this past Monday and I felt great on Monday but when Tuesday got here I was the same way as you. I had so much nausea that I couldn't keep anything down the whole day. Not even the blue dye in apple juice they wanted me to drink to test for a leak. Other than the anti nausea medicine, the best thing they gave me was the acid reducer that is a liquid form. If you don't have any than I would ask for some of that as well. I felt better on Wed and only vomited twice. Once during the contrast test to look for leaks and once late that night. As of yesterday though I have not had anymore vomiting and most of the gas is gone as of today. Congrats on the surgery and it sounds like you are doing much better than I was. Wishes for speedy recovery. Like everyone says walk, sip, rest. Hardest thing to do when you can't keep anything down
-
Today is definitely a much better day. I just got the drain out and was able to take another shower. Still have alot of gas build up but most of my nauseas yesterday was due to acid in the stomach. I never was able to keep anything down and never got all the blue juice into me. Today however, i have had a 1/2 cup of tea and 1/2 bowl of yummy chicken broth. THE BEST I EVER HAD. They really did there best yesterday to make me comfortable and gave me lots of meds but unfortunately there wasn't much else they could do other than wait for it to pass. I will be heading back home tomorrow. P.S. I met some great people here from the OH website

I'm out of surgery! :) Make room on the losers bench for ME!
katldy replied to CAMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I hope that mine goes as well as yours in two days. I am looking forward to it and not the least bit anxious. I am really ready to start this new adventure. I am sure it will be painful but worth it in the end. See you on the other side on Monday! -
pre op diet question HELP:(
katldy replied to katldy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am still feeling this way but I talked to my sister since she's a nurse and she said that it could be a side effect from an antiobiotic that I was taking. At this point I wish it would just go away. I did send Nina a message about the gum and she laughed saying that people always think she's crazy when she says not to chew gum but accidents can happen, so absolutely no gum after surgery -
So I am in my low carb low fat diet week that Dr. Aceves recommended and I am having some difficulty digesting protein I think. I had my gall bladder removed 2 years ago and I am not sure if that has something to do with it. I started this diet on Saturday and on Sunday I started to feel as though I have something caught in my throat. Much like a pill that doesn't go down all the way. It is now Wednesday and I still have that feeling. It got so intense last night that I actually made myself sick just to see if I indeed had something caught. Sorry for the image.... I just feel horrible and it's hard enough not taking anything to help me sleep and now having to try to sleep feeling like something is going to come up any minute. Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you have encountered that problem during your diet or if I should go and see my PCP about it and is this something that I should let Dr. Aceves know about now before my surgery on Monday? One more crazy question....So yesterday on my way to work I accidentally swallowed my gum and the only thing I could think was OMG gum stays in your stomach for 5 years. And than I had this image of the staple line going through my gum! Crazy I know but is this something I should be concerned about??

Thank you to all of you for your reassuring words. I know that what I am feeling right now is just a frame of mind. I usually do make the right food choices and I like to exercise as well but I just don't have the time to do it 6 days like I need to, to make it work for me. Ultimately I know this is the tool that I need to make my weight loss successful and consistent. I look forward to what my future will be and I will definitely try the positive affirmation and the visualization Lee. Also thanks for the Melatonin advice. I will give it a try. Kabranda....Please let us know how your surgery goes and I will be thinking of you in 2 days.

So I am one week away from having my surgery and I am getting really anxious. I know that many of you have felt the same way when you were on your way as well. Reading all of your experiences have really helped me to prepare for what is coming ahead but I have to say that this pre-op diet is really hard. I sa and watch my husband eat chinese food last night and it was really hard not to take a bite. I wonder what it will be like after surgery and not to want to have food the way I do now. It's hard to imagine a life any different than what I am currently living where food is such an intricate part of my life. I almost feel as though I will never eat a piece of pizza again..I know that is not true but those are the tricks that my mind is playing on me. I am also having a hard time sleeping just thinking about everything that is coming ahead. Any suggestions on how to help me sleep? I was taking tylenol PM but I am not sure that I should take them one week from surgery. On Dr. Aceves patient info sheet it does state tylenol is ok as needed but not sure about nightly. Anyways, I just needed to say all the things that I am thinking. Thanks for listening

Pre/Post op questions for surgery in MX
katldy replied to amykates's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kelly, I did some extensive research prior to deciding to do the sleeve and I am going with Dr. Aceves. Like you I had many questions and talked with my PCP prior to making my decision. My PCP sent me to my cardiologist ahead of time to get my routine echo but I did not have to do anything other than that. If you do see any other doctor prior to your surgery with Dr. Aceves, than he will want to see any test results that you have. My surgery is scheduled on 3/8 and I am very comfortable with the decision that I have made. I am somewhat apprehensive about follow up care but my PCP is willing to do the 3 month check and if she wasn't than I would be more than willing to go back to Mexicali if need be. The biggest thing is to do alot of research and be comfortable with whatever choice you make but I can say that I am more comfortable with going to Dr. Aceves, than I was choosing a Dr. with alot less experience here in the US. Just do your research like you are and you will be fine. This forum is a great support system.
