Pain Under left Boob ?
samanthadiva replied to MamaAsh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DO you have an incision under there? I get incision pains and they are sharp like that. -
I could cry. Im just glad to know I'm not the only one. My doc is always going on about the pouch healing but never mentioned that the scar tissue is at its hardest at 6 weeks. That would explain a lot. I'm bed ridden as well, lethargic even. I'm tired with no energy cuz I can't consume anything with calories. If its scar tissue, at least there's hope that it will pass in another week or two. The prescriptions help a little but not much and I'm sick of hospitals so I'm tryin to drink but man, the throwing up is killing me.

SO I'm 6 weeks post op and I'm desperate. For the whole first month post op, I was totally fine. I was able to eat, drink my liquids and be merry. Now, for the past two weeks, I've been dead ill. Throwing up everyday, hospitalized twice for dehydration and now its not so bad, but its comin back. I'm working on keeping my fluid intake ok, but I'm sick!! All the protein drinks make me sick and when I was eating, I made sure to eat high protein foods to get my daily intake. now, I'm lucky if i can stay hydrated. The dr said be patient and it will pass and gave me some meds but I'm ready to give up......although how you give up on the pouch I still haven't figured out. HELP PLEASE!!! What should I be doing?!?!?!

Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??
samanthadiva replied to kalex21211's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm in New Orleans and there couldn't be a better physician than Dr. David Treen. He's the Chief of Surgery at West Jefferson hospital. He cam eduring rounds while I was in teh hospital and joked around with me to cheer me up and get me moving. My procedure was covered by insurance, but he does have a cash price that includes a year of treatment, including any complications, hospital stays, etc. -
has anyone had ANY problems with their sleeve?
samanthadiva replied to mommytoethan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done a month ago. I have some bubbly reflux and was dehydrated last week and had to be hospitalized for 4 days. Outside of that, things are going pretty normally for me. If you are looking for any of us to say nothing uncomfortable or bad happened, I don't think you'll find that to be the case. I'm queasy sometimes, I get stomachaches, sometimes I can't consume all of my required liquids but those are normal complications. Everyone has complications, some major, some minor, but they exist. -
1 Month Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Not Happy
samanthadiva replied to a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Soy milk like Silk is great and has Protein content. Its a milk sub and it naturally cancells out some of the yucky acid. You can also do a little Mylanta. You may also be drinking juices with an acid content that is too high. My first week post-op, it was all about apple juice. Now, the apple juice is making my tummy bubble bubble toil and trouble with acid so I switched to cranberry and grape juice with some Water. To get in protein, you can put even just a teaspoon into juices to mix it in. throw some unflavored whey into pudding, Soups, and drinks. Keep in mind that you want to lose fat NOT muscle so you have to have protein. Throw in a quick 20 minute walk in the AM with a chewable Vitamin and it will come off. -
Thank goodness for these posts. I was very worried! My period started 10 days early (only 3 days post-op) and its HEAVY and still going pretty strong 6 days later (my whole period is usally 5 days). Guess I'm in for a 7 day cycle this month. On the upside, I had no cramps and no other discomforts of the usual lady visitor. Outside of its appearance at all, its actually been relatively pleasant. Glad we can chat about these things openly and help each other.

am i full or just sore
samanthadiva replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm experiencing this too. My tummy feels full after 1 oz and i can't do it again for at least an hour or two. Today, I think I consumed about 16 oz of liquids total and I know I've got to get more in. I'm only 2 days post op and this is only my 1st day keeping aything down. Does it get easier? I celebrated eating a half of a popcycle today for breakfast and the nurses thought I was nuts. I had IV fluids today but I was dischared and it won't be there to help anymore. I really feel full. Is there any help? -
Weightloss surgery study @ Johns Hopkins
samanthadiva replied to blueskidoo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm in New Orleans and I think Hopkins has partnered with my hospital because we were offered an opportunity to participate in a research study but with no money. Also Insurance is covering the sleeve. I'm living proof. United HEalthcare is paying for my sleeve 100%. -
Snappy comebacks for rude comments about WLS
samanthadiva replied to educationrulz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It amazes me that if you have a heart condition, diabeties or high blood pressure its acceptable to get treatment, but when you treat the root cause (obesity) it turns into a MORAL issue. This is MY body. We are doing to healthy thing and when you consider the risks of staying fat vs having surgery.......the odds are in our favor. I always have one comment for people who do or say anything that is offensive to me.....kick rocks. It makes just about as much sense as their uninvited comments. -
If you want unsalted nuts, you just have to shop around. I love sunflower seeds/mixed nuts and they sell them unsalted in whole foods but I'm sure if you look around you can find them in any grocery store.

25 and feeling alive
samanthadiva replied to samanthadiva's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'm doing my last day of clear liquids today and doing some last minute shopping for some protiens, etc. I think I'll go tasteless since taste changes after the surgery. I'm getting some gas-x strips, sugar free popcicles, broth, etc. Anything else you guys recommend in that department? -
Liquid Morph+ - any thoughts?
samanthadiva replied to EdZinVA's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My doc mentioned that you can put the liquid morph in a punch and its easier to tolerate. He also suggested tasteless whey that you can add to anything over the day so that you can fit in the protein. Plus you can do soy milk, muscle milk lite, Naked juice with protein (high in carbs tho). -
I've been pudgy most of my life, in my mind, if not in reality. I'm an emotional eater and after Hurricane Katrina hit, I'm sure you can imaine what happened to my cute size 12 college figure. Now I'm 25 and 272 lbs. I've dieted, famined, and starved myself to no avail. Admitting that I fought with a cupcake and lost has been the hardest reality check to myself. The heavier I get, the more self conscious I get. I find myself avoiding certain places and certain people that I used to see when I was smaller. But I decided that 2010 was the year of M.E. and I'm having the sleeve to take my life back. I want to enjoy my twenties. I want to feel attractive again. I want to make sure that I don't suffer with diabeties and high blood pressure like my mom and grandparents. I want to wear my arms out and be fearless. I want to buy clothes out of the "regular" people store again. So in 2 days, I'm having surgery. This has been the easiest decision of my life. I know it's going to be a struggle the whole way but hey, I'm worth it. I've lost about 8 pounds pre-op and am looking forward to losing about 120 post-op. Is there any advice you guys can give to make the journey easier?

My thoughts from Week #2 Post-Op - Little Miss Sunshine has left the building!
samanthadiva replied to VV2010's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow....seems like I'm not the only on ewith the fat girl/skinny girl complex. At 25, I was 272 at my highest weight. I have surgery Monday and am struggling with getting other people to understand my lifestyle changes. It seems like everyone wants to take me to dinner this week and let my fat girl have a farewell tour. I think that more than food in general SUGAR has been a more challenging habit to kick pre op, as cupcakes and petit fours solve all my problems. I've been trying to repeat a mantra of sorts when I hit a stress bump and want something sweet and I hope it will help anyone looking for something to try. I find that the mind is a powerful waepon and you have to take control of your life back! I live in New Orleans, by far the capital of good tasting everything. When I get a craving, I look at the item and in my head repeat, " I'm stronger than you. I will defeat you. I'm over you." Then, I walk away or look away. I always feel better because I have reminded myself that this challenging journey is about ME being a better ME. Seriously, how much better would we feel about break ups if we got to be that honest with a guy? You might not feel that way the moment he walks away, but hell, when we snap out of it.......isn't it always reality? I hope my optimism doesn't die after next week. LOL
