I truly believe that a lot depends on what pre-op diet you did and how long you did it.....you most probably have already lost a lot of glycogen and Water just being on a pre -op diet. I don't think that the thyroid is going to make that much difference if your levels are checked and are within the limits....if you are worried get your bloods done to check for this. Good luck. X

How is she doing now? I hope she improves more with time. X

Sorry to hear this. I have never heard of such complications. Who was her surgeon?

Yes good idea...it's hard to find a sugar free. I just remembered Total Fage, I think I'll experiment with that. Thank you x

Interesting article on changes when you lose half your body weight
SnowDaisy replied to lsereno's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No matter how much weight I had ever lost, I hated close fitting clothes. If they touch my skin, it represented tightness to me... -

Just to let anyone under Tri-Care Prime that Insure Nutrition cover them too. The lady on the phone told me that it would be for two shakes per day, the scar cream and Multivitamins. Also, it can signed off by your PCM or your Surgeon. I just emailed my PCM for the correct fax number for Insure Nutrition to contact them and should be good to go. Xx -

Thank you 2biglamb, it's good to be home. 2lbs is good. It's going to be up and down. For a while all that post op medication, swelling and healing will figure in. What date did you have yours? -
January Surgeries
SnowDaisy replied to KimberlyBlakely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Guys My op was 29th Jan and I was released today. The operation itself went well. He repaired four hernias and took out my nasty old gall bladder...so that's something I don't have to worry about. I cannot remember anything about recovery but maybe that will come back with time. But the best thing was seeing my husband as soon as I woke in my room. I don't think I used the pain pump much but yes I had pain but nowhere near as much as I thought I would. I don't do well with pain meds so they took the pump away and gave me the fentanyl pain patch...that worked like a charm, but I slept and slept and found it hard to wake for more than an hour. They kept me in longer than the 2 days because my chemistry weren't right and my potassium was very low. Several IV bags of that put me right. Oh geeze I was so glad that they put in a PIC because I have so many blown veins....lol....the PIC made life a lot easier. Taking out the staples hurt no more than plucking hair...the drain felt weird but did not hurt at all. Last two days I have had horrible gas and even though gas is usually less with open surgery I think my gas was just due to a build up of no food and lots of medication because I have had horrendous diarrhea....hopefully that will be that. I got the pain patch removed early too, but they advised one for the journey home today, so feel drug weary...other than that I'm doing ok. Just want to say the hospital, the surgeon and staff were fantastic.... Xxxx -
I had my op on the 29th Jan and I thought I'd escaped any gas post surgery...I had open and assumed it was going to be better (nurse told me that was true). I was fine until two days ago...but I also got horrendous diarrhea today which seems to have eased this gas somewhat.

Sounds like you are doing well. All the best for your follow up. Xx

When Does Malabsorption Rate Decrease or Disappear
SnowDaisy replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds like an interesting article. I'm no expert at all, but I thought that (or hoped that) the malabsorption was our saving grace. But it would make sense what the article stated...the body will always find a way I suppose. Xxx -

Well I'm sitting in my hotel room, tomorrow is surgery day and I'm kind of relaxed but with mini panic attacks every so often. I had all my pre-op tests done today and went for a very interesting pre-op class regarding the surgery and the diet, expectations and pain control and pretty much everything I (we) needed to know. I am second on the list...got to be there at 6am and will probably go down around 8am. Is it real?....I guess it really is. Night all...I'll check in as soon as. Xxx -

So well done....pleased for you...sounds like you are making great progress. Xxx -
Hi Moviechic I was wondering about the drains. So there are at least two. Do you remember how long afterwards the other drain came out and how long after the op was your follow up? I'm wondering how long it will be before I'll be able to drive back to Dr Warnock's office. Xxx

And you'll soon be able to do all....xx

Glad you are doing great now...it's good to know. I'm having open and naturally not looking forward to the post op pain during the recovery process. I too am only going to be in for two nights...I was a bit surprised about just two nights. Although I hate the thought of being in the hospital at all, I think I would have felt better if it had been a little longer, just for the "just in case" possibilities. Does every one have staples with an open incision? Anyway, glad you are feeling better now. Xxx

Do you think the drs and nurses help to calm you? When I was there doing the admission papers n nurse consulting I began to feel better...now as for my actual day... Idol yet but...I'm hoping I feel good about it when I am there. The best thing to calm you down is the anesthetic ... Lol, sorry couldn't resist, but it's true, you won't get better than that...xxx -
