Less than 24 Hours
txaggiemom replied to txaggiemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone, I am back home now. The hospital where I had my sleeve done is about 2 hours away from my house. It is in a smaller town about half way between Houston and Victoria. Since they do so many out of town surgeries, they have it worked out with the hospital to let you check in at midnight and get settled while they come in and get all the preop done. It is really a nice set up. I can't lie, the first 2 days were really hard. I won't say the paid in unbearable, but I probably didn't take in more than 2 ounces of liquids the first day and maybe 4 ounces yesterday. Today however, I have already gotten 4 ounces down in just on hour so I can see I am getting better. Ran a low fever yesterday so I was gettting worried, but am down to 98.3 today, so much better. Thanks to everyone who posted their support! -
I got some of the chocolate Isopure protien powder and it is not bad. I am only using 1 scoop because there are 20 grams of protien in 1 scoup so that should be enough for a meal. Right now I am mixing with heavy cream and water, but I will use fat free milk after the surgery while I am in the full liquids stage.

Another Newbie...Surgery Scheduled
txaggiemom replied to KerriFr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kerri - you are the day after me! Congratulations! It is going to be great. -
My surgery is scheduled 2 weeks from Monday. I am doing good on my preop diet. Dr. said I didn't have to, but I decided to do low carb to get over the carb withdrawal. Told my daughter this weekend while she was home from college. Didn't seem to bother her. She just asked a few questions. I guess at that age they are really more concerned about what is going on in their circle. My boss is the one who is having problems accepting this. He tried to talk me out of this everyday. I just keep telling him that he might be right but I am not changing my mind. At least I only have to listen to it for 2 more weeks. He is not doing it out of meaness, he is really worried, but I can't convince him that it will be alright. My husband on the other hand is very supportive about the surgery.

This weekend I started getting nervous and depressed thinking about what I'm not going to be able to eat. I talked to my husband about it and then I felt better. What about you?
-
I ordered a bunch of the protien samples last night and I think I am going to go to Vitamin shop today to see what they have. There is a thread posted over in the diet and nutrition section that has a pdf of one doctors instructions for eating post op. I found it very informative since I don't see the nutritionist until this Friday and wanted to get ready.
-
Thanks Tiffykins, I am starting a recipe book for after my surgery and this is the first recipe I am putting in it.

Just bumping to see how you're doing? You only have a week to your surgery. How Exciting. I am plugging along with low carb, but I am very hungry. I don't think it is real hunger, but just boredom from eating the same foods over and over and no sweets.
-
Lynda - you are 2 days after me. Thanks for posting this question. I see the dietician this Friday and I don't know if they'll tell me then what I can eat or not until my preop appointment on Friday the 5th. Are you having your procedure in Houston and what Dr. are you using? I got a little sad yesterday and today about what I am giving up, but talked to my husband and he made me feel better about what it is all for.

I haven't had my sleeve yet, but i have lost 4 pounds this week doing low carb getting ready for my surgery. I'm not trying to lose too much prior to surgery, more trying to get used to low carb.

Considering Revision-?s on Weight loss Resistance
txaggiemom replied to katinhouston's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Kat - I don't know anything about the revision, because I am just getting my sleeve on March 8th and haven't had a band, but having done low carb many times, it is not unusual to have a stall within the first few weeks. If you've done low carb before it seems to be worse the second time. I have had that happen my self and have seen posters on low carb forums post on the same thing. -
Yeah....what Lee said
-
So far so good, but I had a terrible headache from the carb withdrawals. I feel better now, but I know I always feel better after the third day so looking forward to Thursday. How did you do today?
-
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Katldy - Yes that would be great to have a buddy. I went to a local support group last night. The only thing is that everyone was a RNY patient and most of them were a year or more out. They had lost lots of weight but they all complained of hunger. I hope that is better with the sleeve.
-
I got my surgery date today of March 8th so I am exactly a month away. I started low carb today just to make it easier after the surgery. My surgeon is Dr McDaniels in Victoria, Texas. I want to lose 100 pounds.
-
I got my firm surgery date today of March 8th, so I am one week after you. I also started low carb today so if you started today how did you do? I have done low carb quite a bit and usually the third day is the hardest as you go through carb withdrawals, but if you can hold on and make it through that you got it made.

Can you post when you had your surgery, how much you wanted to lose and how much you have lost so far. I will move all the stats into this post. This is my own crude form of research and I think it will help my motivations to see how much people have lost. Also I read the research that says 5 years out sleevers have lost 45 - 50% of their exccess weight and kept it off. I would love to see a scatter chart on this because does that mean half gained it all back and the rest kept is off, or are the majority in the middle deeping of half the weight they lost, or is ir pretty much all over the place. This may not answer my questions since I don't think there are too many people 5 years out on the forum, but I still would like to see where everyone is at. Thanks Judy! 37 pounds so far, that is great!

My surgery is March too but I won't find out the exact day until tomorrow. I am thinking March 8th. My doctor didn't put me on any special diet. He said it depended on your other conditions and I didn't have any. He did say I could do low carb if I wanted so I am going to start that tomorrow. Did your doctor say anything about low carb?
-
-
Thanks Deedee and congratulations on being so close to goal!
-
Well those numbers are very encouraging then because my BMI is 44.5%. You don't know how much better that makes me feel. I am really getting excited that this is actually going to happen and I am going to be able to do this.:biggrin2: I have lost this weight so many times just to gain it all back and more. I have been dieting since I was 14 and I am now 46. I had pretty much given up.
-
Thanks Thinoneday. I am going to post your stats because you have already done amazing. I will update them when you post after your weigh in. My doctor didn't require a preop diet either. He said it depended on your comorbidities, and I didn't have any. He said a could do low carb if I wanted to so I am going to start that tomorrow.
-
Thanks Tiifykins and thanks for the video. On that slide broken down by BMI, do you think that was at 4 years out?
-
Good info Loser. This could be why the stats look like they do. Also, congratulations on the 37 pounds since starting your preop diet. That is awesome! I am just very analytical, but even if you think that 50% of patients with the sleeve gain back their weight it would still be worth it to try when you consider over 90% of dieters gain all their weight back within a year (and 100% of the time that I diet I gain it back within a year). I'm just hoping I can figure out if people did gain their weight back then why and how can you prevent that. I know you if watch what you eat and exersize you won't gain it back, but if I was very successful at that in the past, I wouldn't be here in the first place. I schedule my sleeve on Monday and I am very excited about that but I guess I am just looking for more proof that I made the right decision.
